Dagobahn Eagle
Well, I guess they deemed it necessary for a reason. I don't think they're doing it for fun.
El Sitherino
My guess is a more public form of the convention. It'll probably make them more money.
TiE23
E3 was like a ****ing holiday for gamers all over the world. How can they do this? It's like killing off Santa Claus. ;_; *runs to hookers in limo crying*
Sigundr
Well, this f*cks. You mean, other than the fact that Claus has already been offed?

Lynk Former
Eh, if it means more money for developers to make better games instead of spending it on their E3 presentation then it's a good thing.

IG-64
My guess is a more public form of the convention. It might be the exact opposite. I agree with TiE, E3 is a huge event for video games and the people who play them. This past E3 was the biggest one yet, and I could only see it getting bigger. It's the one major serious thing video games have, and if they dumb it down it can only make things worse for the whole video game industry. But on the other hand, you can't really tell the future of how things will turn out on anything. I could just be blowing steam and it could make things better for the video game industry. Lightsaberboy
I wonder who were the big companies that bailed out that led to this decision. Nintendo? Sony? Microsoft? Those are the big 3, so if they bailed out, then that was prolly why.
Datheus
E3 is a waste of time and money. It's just a big advertisement. And it doesn't work anymore. The internet has made it obsolete. Why dump 1 mil into booth babes and hacking your game up for a presentation when you can just pay 1/4th of that to get Penny Arcade to mention your game in a positive light? This is for the best. TiE23
Eh, if it means more money for developers to make better games instead of spending it on their E3 presentation then it's a good thing. No, now it's just not being spent or being used elsewhere. Datheus
No, now it's just not being spent or being used elsewhere. That's fine. More profit, more dividends, more investors. More money for the games, even if the E3 money doesn't go directly to the games.
Char Ell
I guess we'll have to wait for the official word from ESA on all this but if the arstechnica.com article IG-64 provided the link to is right then the run-of-the-mill gamer is going to have a lot harder time getting into future E3 events. I wonder if E3 won't have as many big announcements going forward...
Tyrion
E3 really wasn't all that great. It just postponed or rushed all the large announcements from publishing houses and development companies until a single date in May. Even then, were you to actually be at E3 you'd end up being overdosed with games upon games upon babe booths upon games. Too much for journalists to fully grasp; therefore, it's much better for the extra money saved to be used on company marketing and better game production. I agree with Dath, this is all for the better.
Alegis
I think this is bull****. And as long as I'm seeing Planning is already underway for E³ 2007. Mark your calendars: E³ 2007 May 16-18, 2007 Los Angeles Convention Center on the official website, I'm not buying this. http://www.e3expo.com/default.aspx
Lynk Former
No, now it's just not being spent or being used elsewhere. So the couple of million dollars a company like Sony or Nintendo put into E3 shouldn't go to... say, making sure that the PS3 and Wii have a few more extra units out for launch? Or maybe they could be put into aquiring exclusive rights to a third party game or put into the developement fund of a new game?... I do like E3 and all, but it has come to a point where everything has gone way overboard. All this rush and expense for what? The majority of advertising done at E3 is through the internet, you really don't need to spend as much money as these companies do... the only reason they do is so they can outdo each other and in the end that's pretty pointless when you have a business to run and games to sell because you're already trying to outdo each other on the field. E3 is an extremely expensive event, with very little returns. I really do think that they need to find a way to tone things down.
