But, when you are at sea you don't need a car...[/implicationofnewjob]
Ztalker
Oh my god! Superrodian becomes a Bootsjünge!! (very wrong German for sailor.) My first car? I'm 17, and in Europe you have to be 18 to drive, but I'm already saving up for my car. Since we have to take driving lessons here over Europe, which are very expensive, most parents pay the lessons for their kids instead of the car itself. So...this'll be it: A mate of mine is already driving a similar car, and I just love everything about the machine. It just has that 'roadster' feel, combined with Opel reliability. The 1995/1996 shouldn't be that expensive by now... Tigra...hmm...
Jason Skywalker
Hmm, car? Let's see, my car...oh yeah, i'm not even old enough to drive. Although, i don't know what car i'll get, maybe a Ford or something.
TSR
@Ztalker- Tigra, Puma...same thing... Still, fill the back with I.C.E adn you're sorted. And yes folks, your dearest superrodian is about to be a sailor Boy. I might make a farewell thread when the time comes for me to head off to basic training, but we'll see... RedHawke
My first vehicle wasn't a "car" it was a 1971 Ford F-250 Truck... with an 'Easy Rider' Rifle Rack even! [Insert Dueling Banjo Sounds Here] The heater never worked right, but the AC was flawless. Got 12.5 Miles to the gallon... downhill... with the wind to its back... and with sails. It got even less after installing the Paxton Supercharger. But it had 2 fuel tanks so that helped.

I think my head is going to explode now.

It's known here in Holland as an car for low and baddly educated people (trailer trash). Here's a pic of an Manta: - Ghost Down

Mace MacLeod
@TSR: Never heard of a scimitar before, but then not many British cars make their way across the pond. And the ones that do...well, if you don't have a Jag or Range Rover, you pretty much have to adopt a mechanic. Is this the sort of thing you've got? http://www.scimitarcars.org.uk/GTC_Gallery.htm @Jae: Aaaaaack! Overgrown K-car! My best friend had one of those as his first car. Man, we were rough on that poor thing. It was towed so many times, it thought it was a boat. @MdKnightR: Ah, a pontiac man. My second car was a 79 Grand Prix. 301ci, Holley carbs, BFG TA tires, man I loved that monster. Sadly, the only car I've wrecked where that accident was my fault. My only complaint was the butt-ugly front end, but I've always had a soft spot for the Monte Carlo/Grand National body style. For your edification, here's the rest of my cars and a rundown of their fates: 1) 75 Volvo. The Green Machine. Babe magnet to the nth degree (not). New driver spun out in front of me in the snow, and I plowed right into him. Certified 100% his fault. 2) 79 Pontiac Grand Prix. 2-tone paint, all power options, even a Soundgarden sticker on the back. Missed a stop sign on way back from band practice and wrapped it around an Oldsmobile. D'oh. 100% my fault. 3) 81 Chevy Camaro Z28. This thing was an absolute monster. 350ci of fire-breathing, tire-spinning doom. T-tops, intermittent power windows, and more speeding tickets that I could shake a stick at. Traded in for next car. 4) 86 Chevy Blazer 4x4. Much more practical band vehicle. Great, great truck. Sadly, I'm the worst guy in the world for maintenence, so the engine blew up one day. Just after I spent $900 in repairs to the axle and tranny. Double D'oh. 5) 89 Honda Prelude. Cheap commuter car for the new university student on the go. Bought it at an auction, never had a stereo in it. My commutes wound up being long monologues to myself. Written off in chain-reaction accident involving a fully-loaded semi trailer with a careless driver. 6) 91 Mazda Protege. Another cheap 4-banger. Suffered terrible indignities from my slobbish driving nature and lead feet. Left it with my last landlord in lieu of back rent. Maybe he set in on fire for all I care. Cygnus Q'ol
1975 Toyota Celica GT Ah, I remember Cindy very well. It all started in 1981... She and I used to take long rides together, heck we practically lived together. I live on Lake Michigan so, hangin' out down by the lake was always a hot summer activity. We'd cruise around the city, polished red paint glistening with each passing streetlight. Tires black and shiny, rims reflecting chrome. Music suiting our mood. She was beautiful. She was the envy of my friends. When it was time for me to move from Wisconsin to Colorado, who do you think carried me and my stuff 1000mi into the mountains? ...and back again years later. Fond memories stay there. Am I the only one who names my cars?
ChAiNz.2da
A 1985 Ford Mustang LX.. yeah LX, not even a GT Looked like one of the Mercury Capris of the same year, only mine had a back spoiler I got it when I was 16 for my birthday, and a nice payment book along with it in my B-day Card.. sneaky parents they were, but hey.. it got me off my arse and into the working world. "You want a car, OK... here ya go. Now get a job so you can keep it".. hehehe..

Jae Onasi
^^^ Nope, alot of our cars have had names. My black LeBaron was 'Nightrunner' because I almost got hit by someone who didn't see my black car at night one time. Our blue Excel was Dragon Blue "Kirinth" (The Dragonrider series rocks) Our red Saturn was called "Tim" as in the "Some call me, Tim?" line from Monty Python and the Holy Grail and was an oblique reference to a friend of ours who died only a few weeks before we bought that car. Our son called it 'The Red Elmo Car" because it had one of those Elmo baby shades in the window. Our latest 2 cars don't seem to have names--maybe something will come to us. Astrotoy7
lolz....the first car I drove upon getting my license was a VK Commodore The first car I actually bought on my own was a 1990 Honda Accord I am now the proud owner of a 2004 Toyota Prius Gen II My next car will be an uograde to a 2008 Prius. After that, Im entertaining the though of an FCX(Hydrogen fuel cell) vehicle. It really depends whether our government decides to implement the hydrogen fueling stations here... Honda just announced their FCX concept will become a production model in 2010 so something to keep an eye on...theyve ripped on the prius design externally IMO, but internally it looks pretty sci-fi - which I love mtfbwya

What if the passenger doesn't have a driver's license? Or worst, is blind? They'll have to drive with a white cane or guide dog hanging out the passenger window. Sheesh. TSR
I hate to break it to you, but some countries drive on the left hand side of the road, thus driving on the other would be a)dangerous and b)comical. depends on your POV...
Bimmerman
@Redhawke- I can beat that- I learned to drive on a 1996 Suburban, which in my hands never topped 10mpg, and it's got the 5.7L 250bhp v8 gas. It's because of that car I won't touch any american car, the Ford GT and Saleen S7 excepted, mostly cause I can't afford them.
Jae Onasi
I hate to break it to you, but some countries drive on the left hand side of the road, OMG!!! No freakin' way!!! Are you kidding me? You actually drive on the left side? What possessed you people to drive on the wrong side of the road? How can pedestrians walk safely across the street if you're driving on the wrong side? They could get killed that way! Does this mean your letter carriers have steering wheels on the correct side of their trucks? And do you have to parallel park going forward instead of going in reverse first like we do over here? How do you turn right without causing major accidents? Your insurance rates must be through the roof over there! No wonder you have to take trains all the time--the intersections must be just filled with accidents. How horrible! You poor Brits--not only that, but if you're having to park on the left side, you actually have to cross the road to get to the parking meters on the right side. That's just unsafe on a busy street! Isn't it hard to pass someone? I mean, unless it's a 4 lane highway, you'd have to drive on the left shoulder to get around them! And what if your blinkers break and you have to use hand signals? Your left hand will be in the middle of the car signaling! That's crazy! The Queen or Tony Blair or somebody has to stop this insanity right now before anyone else dies! Someone call the United Nations Traffic Safety Bureau immediately and get a resolution to put a halt to this so we can save lives!!!
