Negative Sun
Does anyone else here use clients to download torrents, and if so, which one do you find to be the best one? (usage, sources, d/l speed, etc...)
Det. Bart Lasiter
uTorrent 1600 on Windows and KTorrent on Linux. Both are light on resources and I usually get 200 kbps ~ 1.2 mbps down and 100 kbps ~ 400 kbps up. http://oldversion.com/program.php?n=utorrent because 1.6.1 sucks. True_Avery
I use Limewire! Does this thread follow the rules? I think torrent threads are listed under the things you shouldn't bring up.
Det. Bart Lasiter
Limewire isn't a torrent client.
Aash Li
I like mu (uTorrent), been using it for a while. And no, limewire isnt a torrent program its p2p.
Jae Onasi
I'm temporarily closing this until we get a decision on whether this is within LF rules or not. Thanks for your patience. Edit: OK, re-opened, but _any_ illegal discussions will cause that decision to be revisited....
swphreak
I use uTorrent or an old version of Azureus (because I'm a dirty leecher). It depends on how a particular client is doing. Sometimes Azureus will get high speeds, sometimes uTorrent will.
adamqd
Bit-comet has served me well over the last couple of years, I did try U-Torrent for a while but they had hardly any seeders, but obviously it's down to what level of broadband you have got. spinkle
uTorrent is near-perfect...small footprint, extraordinarily low memory usage. Azureus is nice and slick, but due to its over-reliance on Java it's extremely prone to memory leakage and will often drag system performance down even on decent systems...you're also likely to find yourself unable to connect to intarwebz once it decides it's hungry for all ur bandwidthz. Your mileage may vary, of course, but I do recommend uTorrent. The reason there are "less seeders" than with clients like Azureus is that DHT (distributed hash tables, which allows you to pool bandwidth passing through multiple trackers together to increase torrent rates) isn't as actively supported in uTorrent...but many torrent sites (mostly private, invite-only ones) *require* the deactivation of DHT in order to prevent unrestricted leeching. In terms of privacy, it's a better idea to disable DHT anyway.
John Galt
The embedded Torrent client in the Opera web browser works okay. BitTyrant is pretty good.
Jeff
I usually use Azereus, though I've been meaning to check out uTorrent for a while now.
Negative Sun
Just downloaded uTorrent but haven't tried it out yet as I have some online gaming to catch up with...(zomg I need to gain at least 1lvl today...zomg I pwn n00bs!)
Rogue Nine
Ugh Azureus. It would be beautiful if it didn't run on Java, didn't eat up so much computer usage, didn't muck the hell out of my system...in other words, it would be perfect if it was ųTorrent. HerbieZ
I must be the only person on the Internet that does not use a torrent. I never will after witnessing how people can do an easy 5-step hack through your firewall and oh so heavily shielded computer via them. They are the tools of thieves. King Dando
I've never used any so I'm fairly ignorant of the whole thing, although a friend did explain them to me once, but since I wasn't particulalry interested, I didn't pay due attention. I must be the only person on the Internet that does not use a torrent. I never will after witnessing how people can do an easy 5-step hack through your firewall and oh so heavily shielded computer via them. They are the tools of thieves. ...and what you've said kind of puts me off the whole idea =)
Aash Li
I liked Azuerus, but I hate java-dependant apps. Herbie, I think you are confusing torrents with p2p. The second is easy to hack with from what I know, I could probly do it! Which is why Kazaa was such a backdoor app for hackers...
Samuel Dravis
The last one I used was Azereus, but I haven't used it in quite a while; not much I need to D/L that ftp can't handle.
Master Zionosis
I use uTorrent, and i hate anything that uses Java with the internet, it crashes my browser,
Sabretooth
Like most smart people here, I use uTorrent 1.6.1. It's a decent client, which gives me max speeds possible, with an unnoticeable footprint. Easily the lord of all torrent client.
Astrotoy7
I love utorrent - not bloated, and the webUI is cool(though not super easy to set up) There is even a Vista gadget for it mtfbwya

igyman
I used to use BitLord, but I switched to uTorrent. (because I'm a dirty leecher) That makes two of us.
