The Brighter Side of Life

Hey, with all the bad news that we get, here's a thread to put your good news. It doesn't have to be big news at all--it just has to be something good.

My good news:

My dad is out of the hospital, where he'd been for a week for with pancreatitis, abnormal heart rhythm, and congestive heart failure. Wednesday we were very worried because he had a lot of trouble breathing, but he improved dramatically with treatment. So he's much better now. :)

All that at the same time? Wow. That's never good, though I'm glad he got out of it ok.

I've had a rather good past couple of weeks. My grandmother went through a successful hernia-removal surgery, I got a new PC, and I just got my first car. I can't drive it until January though because if I got my license, I'd have to get insurance, and insurance is so damn high, so I don't have quite enough for $900 every 6 months for this baby.

Ny "Special Plant" is growing happily. :)

I might have a new ride soon that means.

Oh a few pet rats won't hurt.

I'm going to choose to believe your 'special plant' is the entirely legal sort of thing in order to be in compliance with forum policies. I wouldn't like to be disabused of that notion. --Jae

Obviously it is. Any government that chooses to illegalize pumpkins would be a stupid one indeed. That is also why I need rats, to power my new pumpkin ride. :)

Well... I recently got many of my friends and workers to send a shower of letters to our New Mexico Senators and Representatives. We each sent five letters. One to each Representative and Senator. Thomas Udall (A representative) has a place in the Subcommittee on Labor Health and Human Services Education. So that is a little bit of leverage that he's involed in that. Senator Jeff Bingaman is in fact, the chairman of the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources. So that is a big plus since we all went on about ethanol gas stations and using more solar energy in New Mexico (trust me... we have A LOT of sun. And there are NO solar panels or anything to use our desert climate to our advantage).

However, Heather Wilson isn't going to be easy to convince... she's a big supporter of "staying the course".

Either way, 30 or so letters per Senator and Representative should make a dent, considering that I know of no one in NM who actually sends letters to our representatives and whatnot. Plus... for a little surprise... I burned a CD of 4 versions of L'Internationale (French, Spanish, English, and Arabic) and said that if they didn't take action... then they might be hearing the songs outside instead of on a CD.

But... onto more personal affairs.

My mother is going to adopt my little cousin (he's about 2 years-old). Essentially... it's good that we are because he'll be safer in our hands rather than his mothers'.

Weave--cool that you're going to have a new 'brother'. :)

I've written my Representative and both Senators in the past about a variety of issues--usually be email. When we had problems with the HIPAA law when it went into effect, I actually phoned their office.

Hope the new ride works out for you soon, Pouiy, and Padawan, break a leg (or guitar if that works :D ).

Congrats on the new car, Captain, and the new job, JoeDoe!

@ Jae... Well... the only time I'd phone them is if my voice is disguised, I'm black blocing, and I'm sending a bomb threat to them.

I'm kidding... :D

As for my cousin... we've had to adopt my older cousin before as well. Plus, my dad's friend is living with us too... money's going to be a hassel... when is it ever not though?

@ Padawan...

Make sure not to piss off the sound guy! hehehe... I remember one time, I was sound guy for this club... We were doing a show for some ska band from Florida. One of the band members (Singer/Guitarist) made fun of me and just wouldn't leave me alone. So... during the middle of the performance... I cut the sound from his mic...

That'll teach em'!

Seriously though padawan... good luck on your mini-tour.

I find the peridoic table of elements interesting and stuff like that. And for some odd reason, i miss doing tons of homework. yeah, i know i'm wierd, but to me, that's good news.

Glad to hear your Dad is doing well Jae.

I already shared my best news with everyone in another post. That being that I'm gonna be a daddy for the second time.

On another front, I am about a month into a new job with Siemens Medical Solutions and I'm thoroughly enjoying it so far. I'm definitely not used to being taken care of as well as the company is doing since my prior employer, and I won't name names, but it rhymes with wavy, didn't do such a bang up job. :)

Just got a new guitar yesterday, a black Fender acoustic, but I haven't got it tuned yet(the $6.99 tuner they gave me doesn't work right).

And I picked up a new rifle recently, an Australian Lee-Enfield No.1 Mk.3*, dated 1942.

When I take some pictures I might post 'em.

My school just scheduled an introduction week for al second-graders.

We start on:

September 3; Cycle tour at beuatifull landscape

September 4; Traveling to the Wadden Sea (Between the little Islands North at Holland) to walk from island to island when the tide is low :D

September 5; Meeting at school, and at 14:00 we travel to the Hague :D

September 6; Visit several musea and sightseeing stuff in The Hague, the building of our government included.

September 7; Train to AMSTERDAM :D Visiting Anne Frank house, several other stuff...

And, of course, these are merely guidelines...and there will be enough time to explore some of the other content of the cities...and we'll be staying at an Hotel, so going out at night is an option as well.

I can't wait...:D

My sister had her baby, finally. A big head boy. 8lbs,8oz.

She was in labor for close to 16 hours. He had a little stage fright, I guess.

I'm a monkey's uncle, again. :)

...another kid to spoil rotten, muuuuuhaaaahaaaahaaa!

My Mom finally quit smoking. This is really great because she's been a smoker for the majority of her life. We've tried to stop her for decades, but this time she did it on her own. I'm very proud of her.

New beginnings for a great, old lady.

Oh, and most importantly, I just won the Superbowl with the Bears on MADDEN.:)

Guess with whom I played?

That's right, electronic retribution. I smashed the Colts. 27-7.

I just hope that Gross Rexman can do in real life what I did in my living room.

@PoiuyWired, I thought you were gonna say zucchini.:)

Hey Captain Sparrow, nice ride. Remember, no sneakin' out. You get caught and lose your licence, you may have to wait even longer to cruise this beautiful beast. Patience, young one:)

Congrats JediAthos, seems that job came at the perfect time.

Hey, The Padawan, Rock is such a large genre, what covers are you guys doing or are they all originals? Never stop rockin' your faces off !!!

Ztalker, you are going to have one helluva blast. envious.

Nice thread Jae, and I'm glad to hear about your father. He's home from the hospital where he can get what he really needs. Home cookin' and family TLC. I wish him the best:)

I passed all my college exams back in June, which means there's an enormous chance that I'll be on the state budget during my second year.

Also, I've started with my driving lessons two weeks ago and I'm happy to report that during my time behind the wheel nobody's been hurt. :D

Sounds sweet, Ztalker. :)

I don't mean to make my trip look better than yours in anyway, but later this year. I am going to Germany, Switzerland, and Italy during Spring break next year. For one, it's a big deal since I haven't traveled across any open ocean whether it be plane or boat. Let alone the fact that I haven't traveled outside of my own country and the two provinces that I live in. :p

Very nice! Germany and Switzerland are beautifull places to celebrate your spring break. Maybe I can 'pursuade' my school to arrange a trip like yours next year :)

@Siralos

Very good news! And a very cool dog as well :D

Well, I finally got to take my wrist/thumb brace off three days ago. :) ... and then two days later I broke a finger on that same hand and mildly dislocated the thumb again. :(

I got a new monitor though and some fish though! :)

Man, I feel for ya on the broken bones. Getting casts and such off is one of the best feelings ever. :D

I've broken my hand, arm, wrist, dislocated my shoulder and most recently broke a finger.
