Rogue15
yeah walmart sells dell computers, they have 1 decent one out of the whole bunch though...but im trying to avoid getting a desktop this time around. i'll probably go with a $2,000 laptop, just because i want everything to run smooth and have alot of memory and abilities to do alot of stuff with it. internet, listen to music, watch videos, play computer games with barely any framerate issues, have the xbox routed to it so i can stream music and video to the tv, be able to do stuff with adobe photoshop on it, etc. work was slow today. i was able to get alot of cleaning done. I rented some more movies. I got Hitman and this one called The Hamburg Cell. Think i'll go shower, watch one of the movies, and then play some GRAW 2. Keyan Farlander
Hey edlib, you actually took formal instruction in the guitar, right? Do you know anything about either "A Modern Method for Guitar" by William Leavitt or "Mel Bay's Modern Guitar Method"? They both look pretty good. Cmdr. Cracken
15: Come to Rochester, hit up my Best Buy, and I'll get you something. Maybe. If we have anything in stock. Which I doubt. Alot. BTW, I just picked up the guitar and started slamming at it. I'm "OK" at it. By ok, I mean I still think my playing would make ed-boy's ears bleed and force him into a homicidal rage and kill me. Do you know anything about either "A Modern Method for Guitar" by William Leavitt or "Mel Bay's Modern Guitar Method"? They both look pretty good. Berklee teaches the Leavitt system, so I have all those books. Went through all of them... though I really could use a refresher. I never met the man personally. He died a few years before I started there. They are pretty good... although mostly based on a post Be-Bop jazz guitar style. But they'll get your scale, chord, and reading chops up. My dad started me on the Mel Bay method, before I ever took lessons with anyone else, so I have those books as well. I actually bought the "Complete" version of his system a while ago... all the little books published in a single volume. That's more of a general guitar method: Some folk as well as jazz and classical pieces. I think I have another set of books by a guy named Happy Traum. Those are what my original private teacher worked from. They are OK... though they start out a bit too simple. Mostly folk and rock stuff. i wish i could get 8+ hrs of sleep. So do I. I haven't slept 8 or more hours in a single stretch for a couple of years now, for some unknown reason... except when I'm ill, or going through caffeine withdrawal, that is. 6 hours is what I average nowadays. 4 or 5 are pretty common. I can nap during the day, when presented the opportunity (pretty rare anymore) to catch up on what I miss overnight. But in a single chunk, it never seems to happen. So I build up an insane sleep debt, and feel crummy by the end of the week. BTW, I just picked up the guitar and started slamming at it. I'm "OK" at it. By ok, I mean I still think my playing would make ed-boy's ears bleed and force him into a homicidal rage and kill me. It might... but it wouldn't be the only reason Heh... I have tapes of me playing in my first couple of years at it which are pretty painful... although I still listen to them occasionally to remind myself how far I have actually come with it. Everybody's gotta start somewhere. As long as you do a little every day, you'll improve. Thinking about taking the girl at work out for coffee at some point to thank her in person about being so cool about all of this, and to put the final touches on mending any fences that might have been busted up. Think I'll give it a few more days, though... so as not to make her feel uneasy.

My 'professional' opinion is that no one should spend that much on a computer these days. You can get a top of the line for less, unless you do stuff as a job that needs the fastest bestest out there its a bad idea to buy it. We call that stuff the bleeding edge because you have to flippin BLEED MONEY to afford it.
edlib
Work was slow and easy again. Did some cleaning up of some storage areas... but not enough to even work up a sweat. More of the same tomorrow. Leaving early tomorrow to head back to that church to do some additional tweaks. Then with the guys I'm going there with we might head back to one of thier places, catch some dinner, meet up with a couple of other folks from work, and do some more Candlepin bowling. That was a lot of fun last weekend. I think I forgot to post anything about it because of the drama that exploded with my failed bid at romance at the time... But it was a lot of fun! We all sucked at it... but we all sucked equally. There wasn't any pro among the group of us, so it was a pretty even playing field. But as the night progressed we all improved. And it was a blast. It was perfect timing as well... otherwise I would have been alone at home mulling my rejection, and probably spiraling into a depression. Actually... I don't think that would have happened: I simply can't explain it, (and it's totally counter-intuitive to what I would have imagined would have happened,..) but generally I have been in the best mood this week than I have been in a long time. Months, easily... perhaps years. I'm not saying that to be cavalier and put on a brave face to the world, laughing thru the tears and all that... it's genuinely true. I have been in a great mood this week. It's not all sweetness and light, however: There's still a pretty bitter, aching undercurrent of disappointment, and a WHOLE LOT of sheer red-faced embarrassment... But neither are close to crushing or crippling. They are there, and I acknowledge thier existence... but I have been actually chipper this week with everybody around me. And my self-confidence is actually up. Quite a bit, in fact. It's very weird. I'm not sure if it has to do with just busting my shell, and taking a chance that I never would have taken a year or 2 ago... or it has to do with the way I was shot down, and all the very nice, positive, and highly encouraging things she said about me in the process. Or perhaps it's just a temporary chemical imbalance... or a side-effect of the phase of the moon... Whatever... I'll take it. Beats the sheer hell out of the alternative I had been expecting. Rogue15
well good for you, ed. i've noticed a pretty big improvement from a few years ago. your posts seem a little brighter anyways, i've noticed it since you've been taking walks and getting out. I had a decent day at work. I did miss out on 2 damned computer training programs though...the system was frozen up and i tried at the last minute before leaving when the system was back up to finish the training, but i got 1 question wrong. -_- o well hopefully nobody gets in trouble for that. =\ i guess i can blame the ****ty system for it. Went out for chinese food with my friends for lunch today. it was good. when i got home tonight my answering machine had a message from the mechanic guy and my tracker is ready to be picked up at any time. SWEET. hopefully it still has a decent amount of gas in it. though tomorrow i gotta get stuff over into storage. that sucks. trying to focus more on my job while i'm at work to block any depressed feelings from flowing out, it's kind of working. I don't really see any light at the end of my tunnel unfortunately. i just hate myself and the situations i end up in. i feel like the prodigal son right now, only that i haven't done anything wrong, and i DON'T want to go live with my parents. at least i'll have my car back now. it just better not break down on me again. edlib
what was that? "Here let me rip your heart out and stomp on it" or *rips cloths off* "TAKE ME NOW!" I was never at any point expecting the latter at all... so I have to go with the heart-stomp thing for 200, Alex. The best I had hoped for is what Keyan described a few posts back: Dinner and a movie, or some alternate form of casual nights out, where we could talk a bit, and get to know each other a little better, and see if this (what I thought had been some kind of chemistry...) could possibly take it further,.. or if we would just see that it wouldn't have worked out anyway. Perhaps the whole reality of my situation will come crashing down upon me some time in the near future, perhaps the next week or 2... Perhaps when the vision of nearly endless ****ty days alone, and without seeing anyone else I could be the slightest bit interested in (that I also think would ever give me the time of day) anywhere on the horizon all come home to roost... then the despair and depression might actually kick in. I hope not. I sincerely hope "Positive edlib" is actually here to stay. Got a load of laundry in, and fired up the game system... but I was having a bad night at XBox... so I quit it. Maybe I'll get dinner and watch some TV instead. Read a little before bed.

edlib
play some GRAW 2 man. Yeah... I know. I haven't spent any time with that one since I bought it. I think at least one day this weekend is going to be a game day. I have a few chores to tackle, and some errands to run... but the weather is going to be lousy, and at the moment I have no other plans, so I think I'm going to try to spend a bit of time with each game in my collection. Unless, that is, I bring my "new" Mac-top home, and spend all weekend playing with that. And now that I have a fast, modern, working computer at my disposal, perhaps I'll finally get off my ass and tackle the long, long, REALLY LONG overdue rebuild of this one. But that might wait until later this week... I might also break down and get the HDTV this weekend too... that will probably inspire a lot of DVD re-watching if that happens... Rogue15
might be attempting to fix my computer with the next paycheck. found a cheap hd and psu at tiger direct that *should* work... i did find my windows xp/dell software...so happy about that. today gotta move some stuff. think i'll pack up my movies and books and get the bookshelves outta here. i also gotta contact the guy about hauling the ranger away. (the guy that pays $$$, i got $60 for my acclaim, wonder how much he'll give me for the ranger?) ugh i just noticed something...the tag they had on my key to the car there's tthing that says price: 45326.......WTF? or maybe that's the milage? *goes out to check* well my mileage is 45,410, hopefully that's all that means is that was the mileage when they received the car. if i gotta pay $453 for it, i'll not have the $$ til next month. it seems to drive alright... my truck was actually drivable...that just burns me up. i have it near the end of the driveway so when the guy comes to get it it won't be that difficult to hook it up to the tow truck. i hope i get some $$$ for it.
