I Grew Up When...

I grew up when ... when my kids want a Xbox 720 or something, I'm going to get them an Atari and say, "Here! Here's what I had to play when I was your age .... Enjoy!"

I love Atari.

- When Hanson were cool...

- When turning outside chairs into starships wasn't considered as one of the stages of Schizophrenia.

- When Thundercats, He-man and the original Transformers were considered the best cartoons ever! (However, I must admit, that might've just been me ... and STILL might be me, I might add ... )

Hanson was never cool. You grew up in some crazy mixed up alternate dimension or some such.

They were popular because they had one freaking catchy song that would not get out of your head, and the womenfolk liked the look of them. (Okay, and some men, too.)

But cool? Negative.

The correct term is pseudo-popular. And they were only that because a lot of guys thought they were girls. lol Remember Quagmire in Family Guy getting grossed out about it? That wasnt just a funny gag... lol

Talking on the phone outside your house, that could also be accomplished if you were lucky enough to have a stretchy cord and a jack near the door. heh

Other things:

You could leave your doors unlocked. All the time... the only time they got locked was in the winter to keep the wind from slamming them open and breaking the windows. Or if you were gone for a really long time.

The latest eco-nazi craze was Global Cooling. lol Dont believe me? Theres an article in a Popular Science magazine (or some such mag).

Children could go out trick or treating without having to worry about pedos and what not.

Aspirins were the first thing to get "safety sealed".

Exactly. Well, not exactly. I'm tired.

But, I have to admit, Hanson was cool for one thing .... When you stuck one of their cd's into the microwave ... the result was... fair to say .......... magical.

Pong was the ONLY game system out there.

My dad bought one of the first VCR's for the public and paid a whole lot for it.(Still won't tell me to this day how much he paid)

Carter was the first president I remembered being in office

My older sister listened to and was in love with Shaun Cassidey!

The Hardy Boys were a TV show before I realized they were a book

Saturday Morning Cartoons were the greatest thing in the world to a kid (unless you had Pong)

Rap was something you took the blame for and not a creative lyrical substitute (for some people anyways)

I grew up...

When TV had 5 channels and I was the remote control.

When skateboards had pointy front ends.

When platform shoes for men were cool.

When Chevy Chase was President Ford.

When professional sports was still a game.

When a movie about a shark made a whole country come out of the water.

When the only rock and roll band(s) on TV were the BananaSplits, The Partridge Family and Scooby and the Ghost Chasers.

When Bruce Lee and Chuck Norris fought the ultimate battle.

When a mega-byte was alot.

When a boy and his lightsaber changed the world.

I grew up with people complaining about the shortage of gas.

I grew up with people complaining about the worst president in the history of American.

I grew up watching images of America Soldiers involved in an unpopular war.

(It’s déjà vu all over again)

I also grew up with the first video games – pong anyone?

I grew up when you still listen to music on AM radio.

I grew up when they said Rock was dead and Disco would rule the world.

I grew up when Aids was still perceived as just a homosexual problem.

I grew up when we still believed mixing Pop Rocks and Coke would kill you.

When platform shoes for men were cool.
If you wore platform shoes, then you have some really nice friends, because platform shoes were never cool on men, unless that man was in a band. :D Now Earth Shoes on the other hand…

Wow, you're young!! Not sure why this is in the past tense though since he's still president at the moment... :xp:

I heard the same thing about Nixon, Ford, Carter and even the conservatives’ poster President, Ronald Reagan. Trickledown economics still makes me laugh, something only someone with money could come up with. However, of the Presidents during my lifetime the current President would get my vote for worse, but there was also a lot of whining about Nixon during the 70’s.

I love all you Gen-Xers.

Same here, though our first was a Tandem Computer.
Really? A Tandem? Like a Tandem Dynamite or something? Do mean Tandy (TRS-80/Radio Shack)? Most Tandems were corporate tools back in the day.

I grew up without Internet in high school and realized after college that was going to be the landmark generation gap.

Also, I grew up when

....McDonalds had all the characters in their advertisements.

....before there were microwaveable options for nearly every food

....the D&D Basic box set came out

....Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was just a comic book

....knowing how to use the Magic Dot in Atari 2600's Adventure was like the best secret ever

....the original series of Tomorrow People from Thames TV was broadcast on Nickelodeon

....HBO had that cool Featured Movie intro where the camera swooped over a neighborhood

....Thursdays meant Cosby Show, Family Ties, Cheers, Night Court, and Hill Street Blues

....Michael Jackson's Thriller + Wizardry on the Apple IIe was a great combination

....Pac Man Fever was a song on the radio

...."A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away" were the words displayed at a drive-in theater

....War Games scared me into loving computers

...The interwebz wasn't a really huge thing yet

...Before people went around txting all day long and avoiding all personal contact

...When Britney Spears had a head of hair and no kids

...When the Backstreet Boys and The Spice Girls ruled the music biz

...When we all thought that songs like Blue (da ba dee da bo die) and Who Let The Dogs Out, were the coolest things evah

...When the "Kidz Bop" CDs began production

... When the Cookie Monster was really a COOKIE monster

...Before Dora the Explorer taught us all Spanish

...When Big Bird was my best friend

...When Queen and Poison and the like are considered classic rock

I guess technically I am still growing up but *shrugs*...

I belong in the 80s... *sigh* I hate what this world has come to... (I was born in the wrong generation... Oh well...)

...Adventure games were all the rage.

...The Special Edition was released.

...The Muppets weren't mediocre.

...Ronald McDonald wasn't creepy. (Maybe >____> XD)

Yeah, one of the main reason's I remember Indy 3 coming out was I remember buying the game for the Macintosh. (Which I still have on a computer)

I grew up when...

...the Soviet Union was the Evil Empire.

...Ronald Reagan made us feel safe and told Gorby to tear down the Wall.

...ruthless Middle-Eastern dictators got stomped every time they reared their heads.

...Jimmy Carter was the moron who had given away the Panama Canal and had caused the inflation boom.

...the Commodore 64 was the king of home computers.

...teh internets were but a gleam in Al Gore's eye. :xp:

...Michael Jackson and hairspray rock were all the rage.

...American cars were still considered worth buying.

...good and evil were more than just different points of view.

5$ says Anwar will be jailed' date=' 10$ that it'll cause a huge mess, you in?[/quote']The PM is in a strong position now, since the latest round of rumours have affected the deputy PM's and Anwar's credibility, although I must say that Anwar probably came out as the winner in that weird week of PR wars.

Agreed, let's hope the PM dosen't decide to use his position to sabotage the opposition. Parties who have been in power for ever rarley hand ower power easily, and Malaysia need a new goverment if only to remove some laws and decrease corruption. But we are getting into Kavar teritory now.
