Participants were given local client access to the target computer and invited to try their luck.

1 day after... from the same contest in 2006 ;)

Not saying it isn't possible, but local access via SSH makes the "hacking" a non-factor. There are other methods to hack a mac better than this. :devsmoke:

Hunter is hilarious (and an avid Mac user). I love this parody. He, as well as most Mac users know however there is no perfect OS. Macs can be hacked.. just like a PC. Market share is the big factor.. Mac just doesn't have enough of it to warrant it a good target. Personally, I would feel a bit better should Apple start taking the security side of macs a bit more seriously. Their market share is growing.. and should it ever hit 10% (4% being the sweet spot though).. the developers will be clocking in some serious overtime. I expect a TON of security flaws to be uncovered should a hacker become interested in a mac. As much a fanboi I am, I'm not naive enough to say macs are invulnerable. Microsoft does have more experience in the security market.. they've had to. And LINUX users have open source.. you couldn't ask for a better developer, debug & programming platform. I hope Apple starts to realize this now that macs are x486 based :indif:

One good thing.. we (mac users) won't have to wait till the first Tuesday of the month to get an update for it

I use a friends Mac for Final Cut goodness. The thing that makes me dislike them is simply the fact that they are inaccesible to many(due to cost) and apple has no considerations for oem/diy. Sure, you can forge a hackintosh with a bit o' luck and skills, but thats not the point. If apple one day decide to embrace oem/diy, then there'll be many many more mac users almost overnight.

I dont like macs because they are proprietary... I cant just go buy parts and whatnot and build a frankenstien computer. And most games dont run natively in mac, you have to use some sort of bootcamp program to hope they work.

Im still of the mindset that if Linux can ever get the majority of games to work in their system without needing a lot of shoehorning, I will drop Windows like a bad habit. ^.^

Perhaps on older macs yes... but with the new x486 architecture you can go into any Best Buy/CompUSA and pop in some new RAM, hardrive, soundcard, vid card etc.

I should give you the specs of my system... I imagine the only thing in it that's still "native" is the mobo. I even use a microsoft keyboard and mouse on my mac. :D

But the whole bootcamp thing though, yeah, game selection is horribly weak in the mac dept. :(

Ironically, my mac runs Windows faster & more efficiently than my 'true' PC does

Well Said. I 100% agree with you Astro :D

Learn something new everyday... Id still rather switch to Linux though... its free... and it will run on my current setup.

I'd like to join the "Hate Mac" bandwagon, but I'm more neutral on them.

Really my only complaint about Macs are their inability to used as a gaming rig. They are fantastic work computers, as I have used them for years computer modeling and video editing... But they are odd in the sense that their gimmicks revolve around things like that.

When it comes time to load up some games and play, you suddenly hit a brick wall. Then you have to buy/pirate software to play PC games, and even then the OS can get angry at you.

Wouldn't mind a Mac sitting to my right though. My PC could outdo the damn thing, but it would be a great computer to turn to when I want to write, photoshop, 3D model, etc. It would open up space on this PC for one.

Oh, and the fact the damn things are horrifyingly expensive is another turn off. I'd much rather spend that few thousand on better PC internals to be honest.

I like Mac for what it is, the Starbucks of unix.

But, I like tooling around with my linux system. And I'll jump on a windows machine every now and then. I think everyone just needs to learn a little sense of appreciation and understanding of what is offered and what you've come to expect. Do you really think your constant bug report is going to get Microsoft's developers up to patching within a week?

How about your Mac or *nix bug report?

I think Macs are nice, but I don't see myself owning one anytime soon. They are definitely too expensive for my budget. And I know WoW runs on them, but I still don't like how limiting they are in the games department.

I definitely like running Linux the best, but I still run Windows a lot more especially recently because of games and to be honest some things are just easier on Windows. It just depends what I'm going on the computer for, and most of the time it is to play games.

I would love to use a Mac but there just aren't enough programs available for it over here, the payroll and accounts software my company use aren't compatible with Mac so we're boned until the developers create a version for it.

The main reason I'd like a Mac is because they're not Microsoft.

I wouldn't really have a problem with this if Apple and and a lot of Mac users didn't tout their OS as being so secure, but you're swapping one vulnerability for another.
