Hayden Kered Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 A classical story written by Charles Dickens, this story has been a part of Christmas for several generations and still continues to be told and retold. Over the decades there has been many film adaptions with various themes and settings. Out of so many, which ones are your favorites? Mine: A Christmas Carol (1999)~Starring Patrick Stewart Scrooge (1970)~Starring Albert Finney and Sir Alec Guinness The Muppet Christmas Carol (1992)~Starring Michael Caine
The Doctor Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 A Christmas Carol (1999)~Starring Patrick Stewart /thread
Rabish Bini Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 The short parody of it in the Simpsons, when they made it a Star Trek version. Failing that, the 99 one starring Patrick Stewart for me too.
CommanderQ Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 I would go for the 1999 and 1970 versions, they were pretty good. I have other favorites, but it is difficult to find the different dates...
Boba Rhett Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 Scrooge (i.e. A Christmas Carol). By far and away the best. Not only my favorite version but also one of my favorite movies.
Chevron 7 locke Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 I loved the 1999 version of a Christmas carol I forgot scrooged, that was pretty funny when i first saw it
Endorenna Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 Of that list, the Muppet version is the best! (then, of course, I've never seen the Patrick Stewart one...) But the one my family usually watches if the George C. Scott version.
The Doctor Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 You really do need to see the Patrick Stewart version, Endy. He is quite easily by far the best actor to ever play Scrooge, bar none.
SW01 Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 The '99 Patrick Stewart version wins. With such a lead, it would be hard for it to fail! He plays both the tyrant and the redeemed philanthropist effortlessly. Michael Caine was good in the Muppet version too. It was lighthearted, yet still managed to retain much of the gravity of Dickens' tale. I'm going to watch the Kelsey Grammar musical version when it's on this year - it might be good, too.
Bob Lion54 Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 Patrick Stewart for me, too. He's just such a great actor and captures the different emotions of Scrooge perfectly. Honorable mention to the version with Henry Winkler, A.K.A "The Fonz." He's actually a pretty good actor that got stuck with one persona, kind of like Mark Hamill. While not exactly "A Christmas Carol," I really like the movie "Scrooged" with Bill Murray, too.
CommanderQ Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 "Scrooged!" Hilarious movie, fine choice!
mimartin Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 While not exactly "A Christmas Carol," I really like the movie "Scrooged" with Bill Murray, too. Close enough to me as it is my favorite. “Scrooged” Carol Kane’s portrayal of the Ghost of Christmas Present stole the show for me.
Jeff Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 I watch The Muppet Christmas Carol every year. :3
Litofsky Posted December 19, 2008 Posted December 19, 2008 Patrick Stewart for me. I almost wished to scream "Picard!" during the movie.
Aash Li Posted December 19, 2008 Posted December 19, 2008 I always liked the animated Grinch Who Stole Christmas. When I was really little, I had my mom read it to me every year. And Id watch the show on tv too. The live action Grinch was cute too. Oh and definitely the Muppets Christmas Carol!
ForeverNight Posted December 20, 2008 Posted December 20, 2008 The '99 one with Patrick Stewart then, of course, Scrooge. I can't believe that Albert Finney was only like 30-ish when he did that! You can hardly tell it in the movie!
Admiral Buttercrust Posted December 20, 2008 Posted December 20, 2008 "Dashing through the sand, with a bomb strapped to my back, I've got a nasty plan for Christmas in Iraq!" On a more serious note, I love every song from the grinch stole christmas (Which I have a Poster of the Live grinch, not the animated one, in my bedroom, call it creepy, but I don't care.)
