igyman
Damn. A horrible way to start a year. I remember when my uncle died back in 2004. The whole family was heartbroken, but especially my grandfather (his father). I don't even want to imagine what it's like to bury your child. Horrible, horrible news. Condolences to the family. Haha, the funny thing is that every religion pretty much started as a cult, and most of them have been used as pyramid schemes.

That is not counting the life other than humans that died on earth, and possibly in other habitual places within the Universe. My sympathy will stay with people that I know and have emotional connection to, and not pretending on an internet thread that I care about things I've never met, and had no connection or realization of existence up until their deaths were announced. Shall I post a death toll post about a war when someone close to you has died? According to your vision, I shouldn't care. THINK ffs. EDIT: Prime bested me. Bah. mimartin
Scientologists aren't people. And a 16-year-old has not had a chance to decide what they will be. I don’t know about the rest of you, but I have enough empathy in my heart to feel compassion for all those that have lost loved ones. Be it a celebrity, Iraqi mother or anyone else. RIP Jett Travolta.
Adavardes
According to your vision, I shouldn't care. I think the point is that if you're going to feel greif for someone's death, maybe you should feel greif for everyone that's died recently, instead of just one individual on planet America. Thousands of people die each day, people just as young and promising as this kid, and you don't hear ****, yet when one celebrity's kid dies, it's front page news for weeks. Was this kid's life somehow more valuable than anyone else's? Not really. He did nothing more than those that died did, he wasn't some great man that did great things, just like the thousands that die all over the world every day. If you're going to weep for the loss of human life, don't hold a double standard while doing it. That kind of cheapens the sentiment.

If you're going to weep for the loss of human life, don't hold a double standard while doing it. That kind of cheapens the sentiment. 1. Double standard? If ANY of the forumites here would start a thread about someone they lost I'd have the decency to respond and give condolences. Just the fact that this kids death is given media attention doesn't mean it's the reason why I give the condolences. 2. Get's shot? He died of a HEART ATTACK possibly in his FATHERS arms. 3. Of course I feel sympathy for the countless dead in the Gaza region. But it's the simple fact, you pay RESPECTS. If there's a thread about the war that's going on I can pay respects there too. Blaming me for only paying respects to this kid is low. You judge me be 1 reaction. 4. You think personal drama is different for John Travolta then the father in Israel that lost his son by a bombardment? They both have their sons lost and no religion (even scientology) will bring them back. you think Travolta will have it any easier then the other man? 5. The second you believe losing a child isn't bad since it happens every day, you have lost my respect. 6. Ask your parent how they'd feel if they'd lose you. Or have a near-death experience (like I sort of had) it makes you think about life and the world. 7. Paying respects is just 1 thing. Paying respects to others around you who lose someone is different. Posting here is just a sign of respect and in no way the same as going to one's funeral etc. EDIT: If you don't like it, don't read this thread, what am I explaining for? Adavardes
1. Double standard? If ANY of the forumites here would start a thread about someone they lost I'd have the decency to respond and give condolences. Just the fact that this kids death is given media attention doesn't mean it's the reason why I give the condolences. If you're giving out condolences to people you don't know, give them to everyone. Otherwise, it's best not to play bleeding heart. 2. Get's shot? He died of a HEART ATTACK possibly in his FATHERS arms. Edited. My mistake. My point still stands, though. He did nothing of major importance, and he died. That means to me that his life and what he did with it in the time he had garners as much grief as those that get shot or blown up in war, or die of famine in third world countries. Except he had a rich and famous daddy, so he gets a news spot. Don't expect me to cry for him if I don't have the emotional attachment to cry for all those lives that were just like him, merely because you know about it. 3. Of course I feel sympathy for the countless dead in the Gaza region. But it's the simple fact, you pay RESPECTS. If there's a thread about the war that's going on I can pay respects there too Why is he so special that he gets a thread for him, or a news spot? What the hell did he do to deserve that? Why should I give him, specifically, my condolances? Because he's John Travolta's kid? I'm not going to pander to the media's double standard for human life. Sorry, I'm not doing it. I'll pay my respects to him when I pay respects to everyone that died the day he did. Not him specifically. 4. You think personal drama is different for John Travolta then the father in Israel that lost his son by a bombardment? They both have their sons lost and no religion (even scientology) will bring them back. Exactly. So how about we pay them all a bit of condolances, and stop glorifying one kid for having the last name "Travolta". 5. The second you believe losing a child isn't bad since it happens every day, you have lost my respect. 1. Losing a child is horrible, and always will be. Death is a tragic occurance regardless of who it is, or how old they are. But he is one child in a sea of many. Why am I supposed to care about one when all of them deserve my grief? Either I greive for all, or I grieve for none. It's the fair and respectful way to honour the dead. 2. I don't care about your respect.
