Darklighter
I actually got it two days ago. They were doing special deals to get the DVD two days early in a store in town. I've already watched it with my brothers. Absolutely kickass film, can't wait for ROTK:)
Matt-Liell
The extra footage was pretty good considering it wasn't the special edition. RotK looks simply amazing!
Alegis
I find the movies o-kay...4 dvd box for fellowship was a bit exaggerated, but I'm not sure if i'll get the dvd...you know, imo there are many better movies and i'd get them first (yes i dont really like the lotr movies
Eldritch
It's not in my house - nor will it be. If it had been a little more true to the book in the way that the first one had (with the only changes being the necessary ones) I would've enjoyed it more. Perhaps the extended DVD might be viewed at a friend's house, but it'd have to be really good for me to buy it. It also makes me worried for RotK. I can only hope that Peter Jackson redeems himself with the 3rd movie. And don't ask me if I've seen the trailers for the 3rd one - I have. The trailers for the 2nd one looked great too, and looked what happened there...
The Cheat
i am going to wait to get the extended edition, i made the mistake of not waiting for it for the fellowship of the ring and now i am mad at myself for that
XERXES
bah, I got TTT in early May. Curtosey of my gf's father who went to the Phillipines. Eldritch how can you possible expect to have the movies to me exactly identical to the books. These are Jacksons interpretations of the novels and he can make them however he sees fit. If Jackson decides that there will be flying purple diarhea butt monkeys in Mordor then so be it. My point is...if you have at all read TTT and paid attention to it, you should realize that it would not be pratical to convert it directly into movie format exactly the same. It would be like watching two seperate movies in one. It just doesnt work that way in the movie industry...so rather he intertwined the two seperate stories together. And also added his random scenes in there which I do agree were kinda dumb and random since they left no room for the Shelob scene. Just enjoy the movies for what they are and not be stuck up about them.

What I think is that Jackson has changed what certain things mean. There were no Elves at Helms' Deep, this was Man's last stand, Alone, their chance to stop the forces of evil. Not to rely upon others, as they always have. It makes the Last Alliance Of Elves and Men, mentioned in the prologue to FOTR a LIE!!! We had Faramir, who is meant to be the opposite of Boromir, but PJ decided that not to be the case. It is changing things TOO much, that take away what they really mean. Instead of all men in positions of power being seduced by the Ring, there are those out there strong enough to resist. Even if these people are of the exact same blood, same family. That Men can survive on their own, and not depend on the Elves to overlook. Oh well, only another 83 days until the extended edition, and 121 days until ROTK (At least here in Oz)
Darth Eggplant
you do realize that last aug the first LOTR TFOTR came out, and then in nov the extra special "look i got more DVD's than you, na na na na na na" came out. the same will happen this nov. and then next year they will release the aug LOTR ROTK then the extra special LOTR ROTK eddition, and then the super duper orc slaying trilogy box set. (which 5 years later will be followed by the 'precious' LOTR trilogy box set of DVD's have some patience. get one Matrix trilogy box set and one LOTR trilogy box set. save your money for all those extra, extra special DVD's coming out too. Elegy
I'm content with this DVD. I don't need a more expensive extended version. I paid a good $15 bucks for this one. I was rather disappointed in the differences of some things as well. Like that whole love fling with Aragorn and that elvish chick. The elves bailing Rohan out at Helm's Deep. The fact that the Ents didn't show up to surround Helm's Deep at the end of the battle. Everyone came out in the morning to find a whole forest mysteriously surrounding Helm's Deep. This frightened off the remaining orcs, who fled away but inside the forest they could hear the gruesome sounds of the fleeing orcs being slayed by the angry trees.
