  1. I reeeeeally hope they show nothing of the carnival opening of the game and instead show some point after that like Melee town or something. Hopefully, none of the marketing for this game will feature a single frame of what happens immediately following the ending of Monkey Island 2. That should be saved for the first time playing the game. Of course it might also just be a trailer with a release date (hopefully soon after), but yeah, NO CARNIVAL. We've waited years to discover what was going on there, I don't want to see it on YouTube first.

  2. Has anyone captured the current website of ReMI/Stan for posterity... and for later republishing, like the old, interactive Mojo hint guides?

  3. I never understood why or how that stump joke could ever have been taken seriously by some people until I played the english version. The italian version makes it clear that it's a joke by asking you to press all buttons on the keyboard and to insert the floppy disks all at once. On the topic of badmouthing the VGA version, going international for a minute here, there are differences in translations between the EGA and VGA version (at least in Italy) in particular regarding some more crude terms, such as LeChuck calling Melee pirates "cacasotto" (people who poop their pants) in the EGA version and "fifoni" (wimps) in the VGA one. Also while the EGA translates the chapter screens with the giant blue font in italian, while the VGA keeps the english chapter screen with a small subtitle in the normal game font in white.

  4. I’d say you’re reading too much into it. I know there isn’t a ton to pick over, and the gamescom thing is a surprise announcement, but that doesn’t mean it’s worth creating conspiracy theory-like drama to fill in the gaps. If anything maybe they didn’t know Keighley was announcing it in advance, but the team is small enough that I have to assume they know what’s being made to promote the game, because they are almost definitely the ones making and approving the promotional material.

  5. Man, look how Guybrush is appropriately lit for the darker lighting of the forest too. Unlike… God bless that floppy VGA edition.

  6. I hear 25% of the games original dialog is down there...

  7. I can see why it was removed, though. It doesn't make sense when running the game from CD. (Multi-CD games were still a few years away, I believe?) But I agree it's a shame. Particularly since both MI2 and MI3 make references to that stump joke. It is still in the VGA floppy version, though.

  8. Yeah, that's all I meant: them not knowing Keighley would make an announcement before the show. I fully assume they know what will actually be featured at the show. @Jake Also, by no means was I trying to create "conspiracy theory-like drama." There's a lot to unpack in that statement. It was a simple observation I was just making, nothing more.

  9. The verb coin has nothing to do with inventory combination and you know it. Grasping at straws here (while slowly sinking in quicksand after escaping from a snake).

  10. You said this before and I never remember it being that slow. I'll take your word for it that it's slower than CMI's but it can't have been that much slower or it would have stuck out to me when I replayed recently. As for the non-combination of inventory... there's nothing about FT's interface design as I recall that would make it impossible to combine inventory (with a pretty trivial tweak), If they'd wanted those kind of puzzles they could have just made it so that the inventory looks/behaves exactly the same except when you take an item from it it lingers until you click out of it so you can use it with other inventory. But why do that if no puzzles need it? So to me this isn't an interface limitation, it's a puzzle design decision.

  11. Having it all laid out in this thread, it's amazing how compromised VGA CD is. I grew up on VGA Floppy*, and when I experienced VGA CD I disliked every single alteration and never went back to it. Truly, the original Special Edition. *I still think it's an excellent version of the game, but have since joined the righteous in recognizing that EGA is the one true messiah.

  13. The Full Throttle interface would win in a rumble, due to its additional ability to kick things.

  14. I remember EMI was rated T in the US for alcohol, tobacco use and "suggestive themes," which as far as I can tell consisted entirely of Guybrush's "It's the door to our bedroom...ohhh yeahhhh" response.

  15. Honestly, once we get the release date, I might just go dark until the actual release. I was sold the moment it was announced and I kinda wish I experienced some of the reveals in the game itself with full context.

  18. I wonder if these were made by three different illustrators because there seems to be a different signature on every poster. In the AitD 1 Poster, on the lower left side, there seems to be the name Eagle, but I am not entierly sure. That name doesn't show up in the manual. In the AitD 2 Poster, the name CALL can be seen below the steps on the right. In the game's manual, you can find the name Greg Call under "Special Thanks". And the AitD 3 Poster: I'm not sure if that is a signature or my brain is misinterpreting something, but below the right boot of Carnby, there seem to be the letters GB engraved on the floor. Sadly I can't find the full name in the manual.
