Lynk Former
The entire point of this is the fact that not everyone has such software to protect themselves or even knows anything about such things. The fact that LucasForums is being used to spread this kind of crap around should not be tolerated. We've seen some members and mods in here, I REALLY want to see admins in here so we know our message is getting through here and something is being done about it. For example, my school computers have the worst Virus protection imaginable, and we rely on second hand programs to protect or computers. What is a Trojan Horse? A Trojan horse program is a malicious program that pretends to be a benign application; a Trojan horse program purposefully does something the user does not expect. Trojans are not viruses since they do not replicate, but Trojan horse programs can be just as destructive.

acdcfanbill
Trojans allow a 'backdoor' into your system most of the time. Just like the Trojan horse in mythology, it allows ppl u dont want into your computer Anyway, i dont get anything like that from this site w/ or w/o my popupblocker
swphreak
I think the ads vary depending on your location.

I just don't remember which one it is....... BTW: I was trying to help my friend get rid of viruses.... well, it got bigger than that. He has hackers in his computer. Does anyone know a good, free, easy program to use that will stop hackers, like a firewall of some sort? (Espicially Easy, because I had trouble explaining to him how to get to the C drive.......) And also: Not AlertWall, because we tried that, he didn't understand it, and it kept freezing my computer when I turned it on. Thanks
ChrisC3po
I will be contacting UGO about these ads. If you find an inappropriate ad, please take done its information so we can tell UGO to remove them. I really can't believe they would let some of this stuff be seen, considering our network is listed at "G" rated on their network....
ZBomber
Thanks Chris. Do they get more money for certain ads? They may be trying to cheat you for more money.......
ChrisC3po
UGO does negotiate ad prices with each individual company, so there are often very large differences in price but I don't think they are cheating us.

James Isaac
It just happened to me for the first time. i was browsing the monkey island forums and voted in a poll, and then suddenly the screen eploded with pop-ups, including a message from the anti-virus software about a trojan thing. And then there was this window that kept on coming up with message boxes saying "Press 'accept' if you want to play the games". It was terrible. Mex
Thanks Chris. For the meantime with you people who are getting pop-ups etc go to http://Http://Google.com and find the google pop up blocker.
ZBomber
Does anyone know the harmfulness of the virus? I'm just curious..... viruses interest me until i have them.
Huz
Originally posted by ZBomber Does anyone know the harmfulness of the virus? I'm just curious..... viruses interest me until i have them. Well, the thing James Isaac is talking about only shows up for people within the UK. It's a program that pops up an installation dialogue with some small print and the larger coloured text "Click Yes to Enter". If you click No, a box appears to say that you MUST click "Yes", then it asks again. If you actually read the small print, you learn that clicking Yes will cause your modem to dial a number costing £1.50 a minute ($2 US approx.) and stay connected for 13.33 minutes (costing you just under £20 (~$30), the legal maximum for a single call in the UK). I suspect the 'virus' popups those of you in the US are getting operate along similar lines. So I'm sure the admins will agree on how great it is that as well as the ads being generally offensive and annoying, they're also potentially fleecing the unwary. swphreak
Yeah, I'm still getting Trojans from the GeeBee forums. My Virus Scan stops it, but it is annoying and shouldn't be happeneing. Isn't it illegal or something to install anything (trojan/virus)? Or something like that?

edlib
I got hit with something last night browsing the XWA boards. It started as a whole bunch of pop-ups all at once, then Zone Alarm asked me if I wanted to let "Thinstaller Client" connect to the internet and act as a server. I said no, and started to surf away to see just what "Thinstaller" is when Norton went nuts and started telling me that several different viruses and Trojans were trying to attack my machine. I think I'm clean,.. but I had to let my PC run all night while I ran various scans to be sure I got everything. I'm pretty paranoid and hard-core when it comes to online PC security and privacy... if I got hit then the situation is really bad.
swphreak
Yeah, I got hit with some Adclicker-0 Trojan last night, and it ****ed up Windows Media Player. I had to delete it and redownload WMP and install it. We need an update on the situation. If my computer gets ****ed up because of UGO, I'm gonna be really pissed. And Norton isn't even notifying me anymore! I'm afraid I got a virus that is disabling Norton, because I'm getting pop ups now, even though I have Norton Pop-Up blocker. I hate to say this but: Tell UGO to **** off right now, or I won't be visiting LF for awhile...... The sistuation is just getting worse...... edlib
Huh... I haven't opened Media Player since I ran into this thing, but I just checked it, and mine's messed up too. The desktop icon changed, but I switched it back without opening it.
swphreak
I got it cleaned. Apparently, Ad-aware didn't find it, but I downloaded and ran Spybot and it found it. Zed, if you haven't, get SpyBot and run it. Where did you get it at Zed? I get it whenever I goto the GeeBee forums....
