And what? You guys expect to to flame you for not liking Linkin Park? No. You Think I care? No. You think I'm eating cheese? No. It's a bowl of cereal god-damnit, and don't you forget it

Anyhow, Some of the groups here I've never heard of, and am gonna check out(one of the reasons I started this thread).

... um, Mike Windu - at least hip hop is 'popular music', by which I mean mainstream, on MTV, etc ...

Currently in rotation:

John Scofield - En Route

Pat Metheny - One Quiet Night

Anthony Braxton & Derek Bailey - First Duo Concert (very difficult - but rewarding - listen ... Braxton wanted tonal music with a pre-conceived structural concept, Bailey wanted absolute tonal and rhythmic freedom ... they found a great compromise, IMO)

Jonas Hellborg & Shawn Lane - Personae

Jonas Hellborg - Elegant punk (Jonas has massive bass chops, absolutely blew me away when I saw him live in '84)

Ornette Coleman - Science Fiction

Steve Reich - Music for 18 Musicians

Steve Reich - Different Trains

Mike

.........

.....

Slipknot - Vol.3 The Subliminal Verses. ;)

Slipknot are, in my opinion, a very underrated and excellent band. I used to dislike them because of the "It's not music, it's just shouting" attitude. But curiosity got the better of me and I borrowed their first, self-titled album from a colleague.

Two listens and I was hooked. It was a refreshing sound. Very percussive, loud and energetic stuff. Their follow up Iowa, was absolutely su-bloody-perb (and my favourite so far).

The Subliminal Verses actually brings out a more melodic feel to the band with tracks such as Vermillion PT.2, being less percussive and having a slower tempo. But the band still know how to thrash, example - the first single from the album "Duality". ;)

All in all bloody terrific stuff. Great to listen to in the car, at work or before going out on the piss.

slipknot are something... but they do seem to appeal to 13 year old boys... :D

Kill Bill Vol 1 Soundtrack:

Absolutely awesome mix of cool themetunes, funk, guitar and japanese bands.

Joss Stone - THe Soul Sessions:

Wow! A teeneage blonde who sounds like Areatha Franklin. Cool.

Awesome version of the white stripes "fell in love with a boy"

Pixes - Wave of Mutilation (best of)

I've never listened to the pixes before, but they are quoted as infulences by almost every cool band out there, so i thought i'd give them a try. Not what i expected. Actually a lot of catchy pop songs hidden under the rough guitar. Turns out a lot of the songs sound familiar.

Muse- Absolution

Best rock album of last year. Off to see them in august at V festival (yay!). Mix of radiohead and queen. way more original and interesting than that nu metal rubbish.

The Hobbit & Lord of the Rings Audio MP3 cd

About 20 - 30 hrs of cool bbc radio drama on one cd. nice.

might take a while. I'm up to the bit where bilbo and the dwarves leave hobbiton. :D

Quartermaster:

mp3 downloads

*Creates an army of Imperial Interrogation Droids to torture and kill the enemies of Linkin Park. Stops torture for a minute.*

Linkin Park's songs don't all sound the same. I agree, Meteora gets a bit boring after listing to it twenty times. Sounds just like Hybrid Theory, like new versions of all the Hybrid Theory songs.

But, they are the best of all!!

*Continues torture of enemies of Linkin Park. Creates Imperial Class-II Star Destroyer fleet and wipes them out of existence.*

:fett:
