A bit of a beach shot over on the west, I forget what beach. Some bikers with a shot of one of the rainforests. Some bird sanctuary island. Bit of an mountain range. I'm just a little jealous of anyone living or vacationing in Hawai'i, sigh. The bird sanctuary is actually important for conservation--Hawai'i has some birds that are found no where else in the world (and some of them are just gorgeous--check out the I'iwi), and some of these are very endangered. tk102 Posted March 19, 2006 Share Posted March 19, 2006 Hi! I'm in China right now. Had a nice walk around Gu Lang Yu Island near Xiamen City today. It was overcast and a bit hazy, but it made for nice walking conditions. Xiamen is a "small" Chinese city of about 2 million on the coast near Taiwan. Gu Lang Yu is accessible by ferry and has no cars other than a garbage truck, a fire engine, and a water truck. RJM, I'iwis are gorgeous bright red birds with curved bills in the honeycreeper family. They're found on Kauai, Maui, and most of the other Hawaiian islands. There's a nice little site by the East Maui Watershed Partnership that has both photos and the bird call and song. There are also links to some of the other honeycreepers on the site.
