Master_Ginn
Personally, if you need a designated day to take out of the year to show your love for your girlfriend/wife, you don't know what love is, and don't deserve it. If I was in love, I would show it everyday, not just once a year because I feel I have to, or because that's what everyone else does. So tomorrow, i'm doing nothing, but I might give some candy to my fellow teammates at my hockey game tomorrow night.
Samuel Dravis
If we didn't have school or work on Valentines day I would accept it as a legit holiday, but any "holiday" where you still have class is bull****.Quoted for truth. Holidays like that are not real holidays. ^_^
Rogue15
ya, but u people say that ur gunna go home and do homework and play video games :| y not hang out with some friends, its valentines day, a "not-so ordinary day" a time when people should feel love, in any form possible(im not talking about ur affection for video games and consoles... physical people) i never cared what u do w/ urself :| u make love sound like its bad and all, by saying that "Valentines day is the mother of all non-holidays. It is pure evil." i wasnt talking about people that are too young to bother themselves w/ girls. it just seems sad that everyone justgoes home and plays video games (i can see the homework part) and doesn't get in touch w/ reality( i dont know ur lives, it just sounds like all u do is go home and play video games from wut i heard) hell, i dont even play video games unless i dont have assignments or reports or theres a break (winter/spring/summer) ok, im through, im gunna go play video games hehe the hell with that reality thing. the only reality i get is out of work, and even when i'm there, nobody really notices me (unless i messed something up). every so-called friend i've had has ****ing forgotten about me to. other than my mom, dad, and sister...nobody ever cared about me. and that is the beauty of reality. CapNColostomy
Valentines day is a holiday created to increase sales of chocolates and flowers. Why on EARTH do you need a day when you should spend time with your special someone / show affection for them / buy them things. It's like having a holiday to be nice to your co-workers, why do we need a holiday whose sole purpose is to get us to do the stuff we should be doing anyways? It also makes a day were everyone who DOESN'T have a significant other can feel like hell and resent everyone who does. You are wiser than your years. This "holiday", as ALL of them are, is bull****. It's just another day. Get over the ****.

LightNinja
you are the wrong here MTV2, i don't celebrate this day mainly for 2 reasons, i have a final exam tomorow and i dont want to study in summer and because here people don't celebrate this day as in the states or uk; you are wrong because you're sure that people who don't celebrate this day is antisocial and only play videogames. So stop thinking like that, you can't even know how is someone only because he/she doesn't celebrate this day, imo a day created by marketing. Now i'll go to study ;_;. btw Acrilyc i've seen in your sig Death cab for cutie, im going to their concert here in Madrid next week ^^

Kurgan
Single, so I won't be doing anything special. Well anyway, here's hoping people don't go doing stupid things and freaking out over it. I agree that it can be taken too far with people's expectations (like that a ton of money will be spent to show what you're supposed to have already, etc. just for social expectations). Romance can't be forced. I'll be visiting an art museum and studying/writing a paper that's due at the end of the week.
Rogue15
i got this off a certain website.. Feb 14 The eve of the Roman feast of Lupercalia. Naked youths would run through Rome, anointed with the blood of sacrificed dogs and goats, waving thongs cut from the goats. If a young woman was struck by the thong, fertility was assured. Pope Gelasius I decided this was a bit too much, and co-opted the Roman holiday to be the Feast of St. Valentine in 484 A.D.

toms
Well, i spent valentines day on my own watching a movie about gay cowboys! Though actually i ran into a couple of girls at the cinema who were also on an anti-valentines day mission.. so i wasn't on my own after all @sith: not a bad film at all, though I wouldn't call it an all time classic. Sorry your other thread died! The girls thought it was dead romantic. Knew it would be a chick flick...
Acrylic
@Acrylic- It's not so much political correctness so much as it is habit. My 8th grade social studies teacher made us use 'C.E' and it's stayed with me. Alrighty, thats cool then. Hopefully you didn't take that offensively. It's just a pet peeve of mine, and lord knows I'm not the only one with pet peeves. @ Lightninja: Nice dude. I like those guys. I like their stuff from their new album, though a lot of people don't. Kurgan
And technically if you're going to use AD it should be before the number of the date ("AD 1" rather than "1 AD" which people do anyway because it's "1 BC") CE and BCE always follow the number (1 CE, 1 BCE). Use of AD is patterned after a traditional ancient means of dating in various parts of the world based on the reign of a monarch. "In the 10 of the reign of King Blarney" or whatever. Since in Christianity Jesus Christ was seen as born King of Kings, then his birth year (or what was thought of as his birth year, which was really off by a few years) sets the date for the rest of history. The CE/BCE was introduced to try to be more politically correct so as not to force non-Christians to say "In the Year of OUR Lord," but since it refers to the same event, and calling it "common" (Common Era) it's really not altogether much of anything, but it's come into common use in academic circles. A book I'm reading now chose instead to use "BC" and "AC" (After Christ['s birth]). Other people say "CE" but take it to mean "Christian Era" or even "Christ Event." So whatever works for you, we all know what you "mean."
Mike Windu
Gave a girl a pink teddy bear, chocolates, rose, balloon, card, and Ninja Turtles candy. I love Valentine's Day. Even if you're single, it gives you good reason to be ridiculous. Last year I handed out 6 roses to girls when I was single. This holiday is awesome. Mike Windu
well, all u guys say you do is go home and play video games. Health concerns aside, nothing at all wrong with playing video games. Also you might not have said it, but the manner in which you expressed your opinion held an entirely elitist undertone which to many might have said you thought they were antisocial.
