TiE23
A man tries to outrun police with two children in the car, slams into police patrol car then claims GTA made him think he could do it. A New York resident was sentenced to seven years in prison for second-degree assault and first-degree attempted assault, a result of a 55 minute police chase. It all started on August 5 when police tried to pull the man over for a parole violation. He decided to make a run for it with his SUV and his girlfriend's 11 year old daughter and her 10 year old cousin in the car. Luckily the two girls decided to use their GTA skills for good as they managed to jump out of the moving vehicle and were rescued. 55 minutes later the SUV slammed into two cars, one of them a police cruiser, and the GTA fan was arrested. Unfortunately he will not be released outside his local police station minus weapons and some cash although he got close to the hospital stage. A police officer had to be treated for light injuries as a result of the chase. When asked by the police why he fled, the man responded that he was pretty good at escaping police while playing GTA on Playstation and thought his skills may be transferable. For God's sake how are we going to keep airline pilots away from Blazing Angels: Squadrons of WWII. http://www.megagames.com/news/html/console/gtaforcesmantorunfrompolice.shtml What a retard and I can't wait until Jack starts to spew his crap about GTA. ET Warrior
The thing he forgot about was that in real life once you start running your wanted stars just keep increasing. If the police were as absent-minded in real life as they are in GTA then he totally would've got away.
Darth Groovy
I heard about this at work. The guy is definitely trying to pass his crap off onto a video game again. If it was not a video game, he would have blamed it on a movie or something.

MrWally
If the police were as absent-minded in real life as they are in GTA then he totally would've got away. Seems to me as if they practically are... seeing as it took 55 minutes to finally stop him...

Lynk Former
This just in! Disgruntled plumber of 20 years, Tony Portelli, has destroyed downtown Los Angeles today using nothing but his fists in a running and jumping action. When finally subdued the man claimed that he had been consuming mushrooms and so called "fire flowers" at the time. However Police quickly disregarded this when the man mentioned that he had been playing Super Mario Bros. the night before. Jack Thompson, expert in videogame violence, has been called in to take charge of the situation. Source: www.cnn.com/2002/TECH.../12/19/games.ratings/index.html Not even Nintendo is safe.... What a f***ing loser! the guy can't even take charge of his own situations. Why is he out to ruin this fun that kids have for violent video games? Why does even care? Why doesn't he try to play violent video games for once and see how he likes? There's more violence in the world then on a stupid TV. $10,000 to cahrity my ass! http://gc.advancedmn.com/article.php?artid=5883 If he's got 10K , why doesnt he create his own video game and see how it does. These guys take the words right out of me! http://www.bit-tech.net/news/2005/10/13/jack_thompson_game/ http://www.kotaku.com/gaming/jack-thompson/get-jack-in-your-crack-with-jt-tp-166034.php Jack, you'll never win. toms
Jack, you'll never win. I don't know, with the Tony Portelli case it seems to be pretty cut and dried and I think he has a good chance this time.
Kurgan
The Police should have countered that their incredible skills in classic police games like Chase HQ and APB allowed them to successfully capture the miscreant. For once, I'd like to see that... On the other hand, isn't the video game defense sort of akin to the insanity defense anyway? If you think a video game is real, you're crazy! They'll have to start putting disclaimers in games "Note: Digital actors and fantasy physics, stunts not applicable to life, despite use of terms 'realistic' in advertising. Do not attempt." toms
Like the weird way that Jet Set Radio has a warning not to attempt graffiti, but every other game doesn't have a warning not to blow people away with shotuns and rocket launchers....?

Dagobahn Eagle
Police Quest FTW:D. HAHAHAHAHAHA! OMFG! What a f***ing loser! the guy can't even take charge of his own situations. You do realize the story about LA being destroyed and Jack responding to it was a joke, right? I checked on-line since the account was so realistic (even with a CNN link), but it's still there:) [Yes, I'm evil] I'll go try to wipe out London with an army of fellow morons and blame it on Rome: Total War... the weird way that Jet Set Radio has a warning not to attempt graffiti, but every other game doesn't have a warning not to blow people away with shotuns and rocket launchers....? Never thought of that.
