If you want a PS3, start saving your pennies

Since the console companies like to sell their products at high prices, I think we are about to go into a game hault. This has happened before, so I expect that the gamming market will stall.

Hopefully, the PC gamming industry will pick up the slack as allways.

I don't see parents raking out $399 for an XBox or $600 for a PS3. Chances are the gaming inudsty will cool off for the next five years, and then someone will come out with an up to date affordable system.

If I were a parent, I would used the $600 on a new computer, for they were designed for multi-media uses.

I agree, people will fork out the money, even if they really can't afford it. The run on the new xboxes was amazing. They'll sacrifice in other areas to pay for it, too. Like the guy with an eye infection who told me that he was reusing his contact lens solution because he couldn't afford it, but at the follow-up visit told me he was 20 minutes late for his appointment because he was reading the instruction manual for his new GPS-enabled all-the-bells-and-whistles cell phone. He's the kind of guy who will stand in line to buy it on release day and eat ramen noodles for the next 3 months because it's all he can afford for dinner.

I love my job, but some days, I just want to :headbump:

Edit: DON'T reuse your contact lens solution. :)

I know this is totally off the subject, but why in the blue hell did Nintendo change the name of the new console to Nintendo-Wii

there is a separate thread where you can discuss this very question. But whilst in here, best stay on topic ;)

The price will drop at the time of it's release. They'll manage to pull a sale out of their ass like a week before the release date.
Are you willing to make a bet on that? :smirk2:

Sony is already selling the PS3 at a significant loss, probably in the neighborhood of $200-300USD per unit. They really can't afford to go any lower. Only way I see that happening is if initial sales are way lower than Sony expects. If that happens (not likely) then Sony would have to drop the price to be more competitive with the Xbox 360. What is more likely to occur is all the die-hard Playstation fans will pay the exorbitant price of the PS3 when it launches. Sometime after the initial period of availability Sony will evaluate the situation and determine whether or not to drop the PS3's sale price to spur secondary sales beyond the PS3's group of first adopters.
