Amazing Technology from Japan

Recommended Posts

This is old, I've found these pics a couple of years ago. Still pretty cool though, I don't understand how it works. I know the concept is probably based on a laser alarm, when the laser is seperated from the reciever the alarm trips, but if it is based on the same concept then how can the device work if the hands are in place like shown?

I know about the virtual keyboard thing, but I really don't get the above things are - I know that one is a projector... but what about the rest?

Lol not for another 20 years at least. Right now theyd have the functionality of a calculator.

The virtual keyboard is out for sale, last I heard. Its just very, very, very costly.

True...I read about it in a magazine here, it was for sale too. Wasn't it something like 300 Euro's?

Anyways...the article explained how it works as well.

The projector projects the keyboard on the table, and uses an intern camera to spot what keys you hit with your fingers.

That's it :xp:

Considering that this is new technology, I'd say its not that expensive. Actually, I don't believe its "new" technology. The way I would surmise it works is similar to a Laser Range Finder. Its kind of like the Wii. The technology isn't new, but the way its implemented is.

I'm tempted to buy one, but I can't see spending that much for something that will not get much use past the "OMG this is awesome" phase...

lolz....as a power PDA user for many years, the virtual BT keyboard is not that astonishing :p You can get them from anywhere between $80 - $180(USD). Ive used one, though I have to say I like the wireless fabric keyboards better .

Mini projectors, like the pen picture above are not too far away - definitely not 20 years lolz.. Still, being projected onto a small space like that - dont expect HD resolution like a great LCD screen. Mini computers - considering the size of the smallest pda running windows mobile - i cant see it being any more than 5-10 years til you can get basic compy functionality from something that size. Dont expect anything too flash - the perennial problem with processors is heat - until they micro/nanotechnology overcomes this then pen size computers will become a functional reality.

3D 'holograms' are around in the form of the Heliodisplay. Whilst mainly used by the miltary and industry, they do have a 30cm version. This tech definitely will be something that will creep into our homes in 10 years or so. Can see it being big with gamers(when it becomes affordable). Imagine playing MP/MMO with a life size display = awesomez :)

what IS amazing in the above pics is the PDA that stands upright on its own, no cradle or anything :) Must have micro-hovercraft engines in it ;)
