IG-64
I've been saying for years that one day we'll have an electronic version of paper that will allow us to edit text just like a Word document on a computer. I've always thought it would come in the form of a really thin LCD display or something; however, I was browsing "How Stuff Works" today and came across this article. Apparently a company called the E Ink Corporation is competing with Xerox to manufacture a new "EPD", which means "Electronic Paper Display" or "Electrophoretic Display". This reminded me of something I saw while watching CES, the Sony E-Reader. And sure enough, it's the same technology. Basically, it looks like ink and paper, and it's flexible, like paper, but it works just like a monitor. It's extremely energy efficient, because it only has to use energy when changing the display and it uses a tiny amount of power. Now, I generally don't like making predictions about the future on anything, but I think it would be cool to see this used on lots of stuff. I found E Ink Corporation's website and it looks like they're already coming up with some nifty stuff like watches, a drawing pad, and a cell phone. This could totally bomb and not go anywhere, or it could be absolutely everywhere in the future. It could be used on some pretty cool things, like a "Photoshop on the go" type thing or portable Word documents like I mentioned earlier. It could also be used on not-so-cool things though, companies could abuse it and have distracting moving billboards, or the products in a supermarket could be constantly moving with flashy displays. Anyways, check out the wikipedia page for electronic paper. Perhaps someone else knows something about another nifty technology that might get big in the future? narfblat
Who looks at paper and thinks "This could be more electronic"? (paraphrased from a line in the new Doctor Who series) It would be cool to have a paper that could browse the internet. I'd call it a "web page." martmeister
I can see newspaper corps using the E-Ink for exclusive content and that it'll update daily (and can save old clips you want) via highspeed wireless.

Yeah apparently it's been around since like 2000 or something, but I just now noticed it, and it's just now being applied to stuff.
