Rogue Nine
Makes me wonder how exactly Mac can accurately predict everyone's mindset as they become moderators. Also makes me wonder what exactly happens when one gets promoted to administrator. I dunno, I can't see anything from behind my standard-issue Rules & Regulations Shroud™, which I got upon my promotion to moderator, as well as the Idiot's Guide to Being a Forum Dictator©. edlib
Yes. I will vouch for the fact that you were a terror before any of your promotions, and that your current job finally matches your true fascist personality. Can I have some money?
Shem
After reading some of the posts here, I can say that being a mod myself, people do treat you differently than they do at sites where you're not a mod. That comes with the territory. You also have to read posts differently and play police every now and then. At FileFront it seems like I'm playing police way more often than I am at Phatooine. Every site is different and gets different types of users. I do think we got a good group of users here at Holowan in general and a great set of mods that are looking over us. Makes it desirable to want to be here.

Lynk Former
http://forums.thecrisiscenter.net/ You only need to read through some of the threads in my forum to see how I run things ...no wait, maybe you shouldn't... I mean if you don't mind uncensored swearing, more than risky topics of conversation and downright freedom to say pretty much whatever you want without being judged for it. SilentScope001
Er... This is my view on Admins. Not about moderators, but the site has a list of profiles of all sort of personalities, and each Moderator action is determined by his or her personality. Needless to say, I am a firm supporter of Moderator powers.
swphreak
I haven't been treated any differently since I became an Administrator... Being an Admin or Mod isn't special. You have to actually do work, or else get demoted. Staff members (usually) have to know and obey the rules as well.
Shem
I think the best type of moderators you can have are those who really don't want it, but do it for the love of the community. Be a member first, a mod second, and only use mod powers when a situation needs to be taken care of. To tell you guys the truth, my job at FileFront can really drain me at times because of the responsibilities that I have to do. I do have a special love for it just because I served it. Anything you serve, you learn to love, but yet it can be very tiresome at times.
JediMaster12
Well said Shem. I have positions of power within my group org at school and I mod some forums as well. I know the adage that power goes to the head is true, I've see it happen but if you love being with the group enough, it won't turn you into the dictator everyone fers. igyman
I think the best type of moderators you can have are those who really don't want it, but do it for the love of the community. My addition to this would be that the best mods are those who accept the position because they understand the responsibilities it implies. Be a member first, a mod second, and only use mod powers when a situation needs to be taken care of. Words to live by.

ChAiNz.2da
Uh oh... The only cool mod here is CHAinZ.2da or however you spelled it. And they all know it That's cause you're frequently naughty, TSR. Wait a tick.. are you insinuating that I'm a llking tha 'naughty' peeps hehehe Whatever stories you've heard, well.. err.. about 95% of them are true... but I'll deny them anyways -------------------- As far as topic goes.... as much as I'd like to say I haven't changed one bit, I know that isn't true. To what extent however I think would differ between each and every person... While I try to be member first, mod second... I realize and admit that I have that 'tiny voice' in the back of my head constantly looking over posts for "Is that spam.. was that flaming/trolling... was that... etc". However this was/is asked of a moderator.. it comes with the position. I hope I haven't become empirical about it.. and godz forbid If anyone thinks I've become unapproachable.. PLEASE know that just isn't the case. I'm a bit scatterbrained granted, but I try to eventually answer PM's or comment on something .. I can see The Sources' point of view though.. and I kinda understand about the distancing part.. though I think it's definitely a 2-way path that isn't necessarily 'a given'. I would hope the friends I have would remain that way no matter the circumstances... but I also can't deny that it takes both parts of the equation to make sure that is indeed what happens. It's a slow drift apart and unfortunately not too many people catch on to it before you're just past the horizon. Doesn't mean you can't paddle your ass off to close that drift though now does it? lukeiamyourdad
Ah yes the age long question... I don't think I've changed that much. Though the time when I became moderator slightly coincided with my switch from raging leftist to moderate center-right. Ahem, politics aside, every forum is indeed different. Every forum in the LFN network has a great pool of forummites. Generally speaking, after a few days or weeks ruling with an iron fist before and after the release of a game, things die down and peace is restored. In fact, a campaign of fear is not such a bad idea. Remember kids, this is not a free country, it's a brutal dictatorship led by Gestapo officers in the form of moderators, demi-gods in the form of Super-Moderators and Gods in the form of Administrators. Fear us peons! Fear us! Wow, that went from nice to megalomaniac. Anyway, we're quite lucky here. We got a great staff and a great community. I've been to a lot of places and frankly, I could never leave this one. People here are too nice. And there's a lot of women. Ahem. Makes me wonder how exactly Mac can accurately predict everyone's mindset as they become moderators. Also makes me wonder what exactly happens when one gets promoted to administrator. I dunno, I can't see anything from behind my standard-issue Rules & Regulations Shroud™, which I got upon my promotion to moderator, as well as the Idiot's Guide to Being a Forum Dictator©. igyman
This place has been inactive for a few days, but that's about to change. I'm in need of some technical assistance. Namely, the forum me and my friend are setting up is in PHPBB, hosted for free there. Now, what I need help is updating the version of PHPBB to 2.0.22, since the current one is 2.0.21. If anyone knows his way around PHPBB forums, I'd appreciate the instructions on properly uploading the new version of the code via FTP using Total Commander. Thanks in advance.
