A 16-Year-Old Marries Her 40-Year-Old Track Coach

Recommended Posts

Thank god they have the death penalty/life long prison sentence over there.

Such a sick mind should be removed from society immediately. The way it's discribed he has been manipulating here for years. From own experience, I can tell most 16-year olds are very easy to manipulate. They are not kids anymore, but no adults either. Wanting to be in either one of the groups. This one obivously chooses the adult.

Sick. Makes me puke as a future teacher.

So, who is worse here? The parents, or the pedophile?

Doesn't sound like they tried too hard to keep them apart, and they caved almost instantly. I've seen girls fall head over heels for much older guys, but damn, this was an act of manipulation by the coach and anybody who can't see that deserves just as much punishment as the pedophile.

Also, wtf. Married at 16? I didn't even think that was legal... damn parent consent forms. I don't usually condone violent behavior, but damn... someone slap both of those parents a good few times and knock them back into reality. They act like their own underage daughter is an adult and out of their reach.

Well, there goes a little more faith in humanity fluttering away...

The pedophile! He is truly sick. I even find it sicker because he is a teacher and is in a position of trust.

Another question could be which one violated there duty in protecting the child, the parent or the teacher?

Again both, but in my opinion a parent must be willing to put their child above everything else in life. So these parents failed to protect their child and willingly sign a consent form.

I didn't even think that was legal...[/Quote]

Welcome to the laws of the South. Where you can marry a 16 year old, but you can not sleep in the nude. Where you still can be hung for horse theft and the trial is optional

It is not legal without the consent form. It still should not be legal, how is it legal to enter a contract of marriage and you can not even sign an enforceable contract yet (other than a contract of insurance which is legal at 13).

My prediction: Either A) A divorce within 2-3 years, or B) She'll end up dead.

Good prediction, but I'll add a third: C) Annulment in 6 months and everyone pretends in never happened. (only problem is it did happen).

You can't?!? :ninja2: err.. not that *I* am asking but err.. a friend of mine... yeah, that's it.. a friend..

<.<

>.>

As far as topic goes.. yeah, I'm disgusted with the whole lot of them. The pedophile teacher for one, and the lackadaisical parenting contribution. And oh yeah, not even the girl gets by innocently on this one... Child or no, she was (14) 16.

At (14) 16 years old respectively, I may have been a smart-ass to most adults..and thought I knew everything (which apparently growing older makes you dumber.. err.. wiser ;) ) but I did know what wasn't "quite right" even without my parents hawking over my shoulder.

This has an "ick" factor beyond the scope of what most teens think should be appropriate (or gawds I would hope so).. I can understand the occasional "crush" one might have on a teacher (I still love my 3rd gradde teacher to this day.. hehehe) but wow... marriage, that's a life-changing step to take, and so early in life, wow :disaprove

I can't help but wonder how this relationship isn't sometime down the road going to become awkward (moreso than the obvious). I mean.. surely one day the guy is gonna slip and try to play "parent" because the girl has just done some young kid mistake (yeah I made them too so I know you'll make them too) and he goes to try and 'correct' her...

Absolutely disgusting.

She's just a kid with naturally overactive hormones and pubescent emotion.

He took advantage of that, but what's worse is that her parents allowed this to happen.

I feel bad for her. Her life is screwed and she doesn't even know it yet.

Sad, sad, sad.

I'm sure you…sorry your friend will be safe no matter the sleeping habits.

The Texas State Constitution needs some serious rewriting. It still has stupid things in it like that, that at one time were necessary, but are now greatly outdated (cowhand sleeping outside young lady rides up on her wagon...well you get the picture).

I am absolutely disgusted at those parents. Jesus Christ, signing the forms that will ruin their kid's life just because she wasn't talking to them for a week? WTF? Teenage girls gets over things in no time; personally I'd by dumbfounded if she was able to keep that up for a month.

Signing those consent forms was an extremely uncaring and thoughtless act. As parents they should have taken care of their daughter; instead they were selfish and knowingly ruined her life just so they wouldn't have to go through a few weeks of silent treatment. How self-centered.

The daughter is at obvious fault for her stupidity and the coach for starting this in the first place, but the most blame lies with the people who could've prevented this, knew what would happen if they didn't, and willingly chose not to.

As parents they fail utterly. :disaprove

*shrug* moderately interresting piece of pseudo-news. Wonder if anything important's going on that they're not reporting on?

/cynicism

but really, all these people are bad at life. The pedophile for being, well, a pedophile, the system for allowing the pedophile to be a teacher, and thus in a position of trust, the girl, for being dumb enough to get talked into this, and her parents, for not having sense enough to keep their daughter out of situations where things like that could even happen.

What kind of failures at parentlng sign a consent form, saying they didnt have a choice?! Was Mr Pedo holding them at gun-point? Keeping their not-so-bright daughter in a basement?

How about not-signing the form and actually do your job as parents! geez... >_<

What an exceptionally objective article:rolleyes:.

First of all, I wouldn't call it pedophilia when the kid is sixteen, as I don't consider 16-year olds children. Secondly, I refuse to condemn anyone before I get an article written by a level-headed person, not an angry conservative mother of six crying 'OMG! Pedo!!111'.

If it was my 16-year old cousin, I'd be extremely reluctant to let her run off with a 40-year old. But still, she's getting old enough to understand what the Heck she wants. Not that I'd have any authority, but I'd try to make her wait until she's 18, at least.

Hmm... where does it say the author of the article is a conservative mother of 6? Yes, technically 16 year olds are children, and some people that are much older are still children too, despite their legal adult status (I happen to work with one like that).

If it was my cousin, I couldnt do anything about it anyway since I have no legal authority to stop her... and I doubt Id care, considering I spent several years playing therapist to my other cousin that did absolutely no good except give me headaches. >_>

That's weird. Isn't marriage before age 18 illegal, consent or no consent? Guess I'm no expert at laws, then...

I really don't mind it. Honest. I don't know if I should be, but if it is a legal marriage and nobody's complaining, I sense no reason to find anything odd in it.

Legal age of consent varies by state, some states its 18 (most I think), but some states are "backwater", and have 16. But just because its "legal" doesnt make it morally right (or left lol). A 40 year old has no business marrying a child... thats as bad as those crusty old men in the middle ages marrying 13 year olds...
