OkCupid Politics Test

Tried the first test, but I didn't think it was terribly accurate. I did however propose and post a new law on the comments page requiring mandatory state-sponsored worship of Samuel Dravis and myself (upon pain of death!) so that made taking it worth it. :D

The Political Compass said I was liberal economically and very libertarian socially. Not surprised.

I don't understand. How can you be economically liberal when you're very clearly a member of the dying breed, the centre-left? Economically liberal would mean neo-liberalism, wouldn't it? That's patently not a left-wing policy. Perhaps the terms mean something else across the pond.

Anyway, I'm a liberal lefty (-5 economically and -7 socially - rounded values). Social Democracy for the win!

I think this poll is biased.

When even I get a Social Liberal/Economic Conservative and be declared Libertarian (73e/63s)....this test is out of whack. Usually, the tests tell me I'm a Social Conservative/Economic Liberal (in other words, Totalitaran).

I'm going to retake that test, and retake other tests.

EDIT: Now I am a Social Moderate

(56% permissive) and an... Economic Conservative (73% permissive)

I am best described as a: Capitalist (73e/56s). A little better, closer to what I feel I am, but still...er...only halfway there.

This is upsetting. Rather upsetting. I mean, all this time, I billed myself as a Radical. Now, I'm just pivioting around the "centrist" circle....

EDIT2: Ooh. Ooh! I finally regained my mojo by taking another test!

Economic Left/Right: 4.62

Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: 1.18

pcgraphpng.php?ec=4.62&soc=1.18

Personal view therefore is still pretty Totalitaran. I'm thinking that maybe I am more moderate in real life because I realize limiations, but in personal life, where nobody can hear me, I'm quite Totalitaran. And when I get upset about a test result, I begin answering questions more radically, hence getting me this result. Or it could be the test itself...this test also deals with homosexuality, a touchy subject for some...

Another thing is that it phrases sentences differently: The first test says, "The government should intervene to help struggling artists" and the other tests says, "The government shouldn't help artists who can't get their work to sell". Could both tests be biased?

Ironically, in the long term, I am arguing over semantics, as in the end, the actual dots on the map is still pretty close together, crossing artibrary boundary lines.

Anyway, try this test out and compare results if you got time:

In the good Political Compass test, I'm a slightly leftist economist, falling about halfway on the Libertarian side, which puts me fairly close to Gandhi. :xp:
Me too :D. My result was about 2 grid lines further up than ED's. Thanks for the link, Mr. Dravis. :)

Maybe, but as long as someone suggests a more prettier name to the ideology, I see it as the combination of the best parts of liberalism and conservativism. After all, society has to be economically fair (economically liberal), but it must also follows morals as well. Therefore, the government should intervene in order to create a perfect society.

The problem is, coming up with a good name for that....hm...

Well, the test (rather like the D&D one actually) assumes you're completely consistent in your beliefs or that opposing views when added up average out. I have a strange mix of mostly progressive and a few Objectivist views on economics. For the most part they don't mesh terribly well. :S

I decided to breakdown and do the other test as well:

Your true political self:

You are a

Social Liberal

(71% permissive)

and an...

Economic Liberal

(26% permissive)

You are best described as a:

Democrat (26e/71s)

No problem Achilles.

Instead of relying on fairly old results, I decided to take it again today. I'm rather more radical on the social freedom scale but economically pretty much the same.

It is somewhat interesting how no one in the presidential race even comes close to agreeing with me.

Well, on the first test I got (if it actually means anything)....

Your true political self:

You are a

Social Conservative

(35% permissive)

and an...

Economic Conservative

(60% permissive)

You are best described as a:

Centrist (60e/35s)

You exhibit a very well-developed sense of Right and Wrong and believe in economic fairness.

For the other test, I got:

The Political Compass

Economic Left/Right: -0.62

Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: 2.46

Fun tests, but who's to say if they actually truly represent someone.
