LAN party fuel...

ok, i know that some of you people have gone to at least one LAN party before (i've been to a bunch). for the uninitiated, a LAN party is where you bring your own computer to the party, set up a LAN, and then you play multiplayer matches across the LAN all night long. the key emphasis there being that it is indeed an all-night thing. anybody that falls asleep before 6am gets a good dose of practical jokes both nice and downright rotten.

so, the big question here is this: what do you use to keep yourself going till 6am?? do you use something simplistic like coffee?? or do you do the "hip" thing and go for the energy drinks??

normally, i go for the coffee, but i do like to use the occassional energy drink a la Monster Khaos. its also pretty likely that somebody brought a case of Bawls, so i'll usually go for one of those at the start of the night.

and if you've never been to a LAN party, what do you use to keep yourself going during an all nighter??

One or two 2-litre bottles of knock-off cola. Keep a mug full of it nearby at all times and sip at your leisure throughout the night. Exactly how much you will need depends on how quickly you drink, but if you take it at regular intervals the sugar and caffiene will keep you awake for endless hours. Another tip is to try and sleep in the morning before, as it means you'll have been awake for less time as the night goes on and you may be able to survive on "sleep fuel" for longer than anyone who woke up earlier.

Having pulled a few all nighters in my life....

Diet Pepsi (or caffeine drink of choice), migrating to coffee if necessary.

Chocolate. This is key. Chocolate brownies makes it even better.

Food, usually the cheap and sleazy snacky kinds of things--taco dip and/or salsa and chips, potato chips and french onion dip, fritoes and chili, those little hot dogs wrapped in crescent dough and baked, baked frozen pizza, assorted other snacks of your choice.

Lots of laughter from friends and/or music.

I usually need nothing... but that is all the while chugging soda and candy/snacks.... so.

@ Jae, at the Lan parties I have been to music is usually a no-no as it drowns out the "I pwnd j00!" celebrations when you frag someone who desperately needs it (ususally they are directed to me when someone I have killed umpteen million times finally finds my sniping positions on the map)!

I don't really need anything to stay up but I do still like energy drinks, my favorites are Sobe essentials, Monster and Amp. Not a fan of Rockstar, and I had this one monster "mixxd" flavor that tasted like grape juice that had been sitting out for a week...but worse.

Never been to a LAN party, but here's how I stay awake:

-wash my face with cold water

-drink rootbeer

-microwave some food

-play some games

-read webcomics

-read this forum

-wash my face with cold water

-ponder on about how much sleep I'm losing

-realize that since I've stayed up this long, why should I sleep?

-spend the next few minutes wondering if I should sleep

-realize that I would wake up in the afternoon if I slept now

-do all of the above to stay awake until tomorrow evening so that my sleeping schedule will regulate

-fail at the above

-spend the next week attempting to regulate my sleeping schedule

-extend the above to two weeks

-succeed at sleeping regularly after 2 1/2 weeks

My all-nighters have either been for finals weeks in college, partying at SCA camping events (very rare), and playing Kingmaker with my buddies. If you've ever played Kingmaker, you know it's not something you start later in the evening, because you'll be up until at least 10am the next day. You start at 3pm and hope you'll be done somewhere in the vicinity of 12-ish hours later after you've totally screwed over all your previous allies. It's an awesome game. :D

Played Kingmaker... started tham around 8-ish in the PM played for two days straight (taking breaks of course).

Another one I like was a game Called Machiavelli... the intrigue... the backstabbing... the plagues... the vacillating nobles!
