Tysyacha
...Trix cereal didn't even HAVE a "Lime Green" flavor until later childhood. ...my role models were Pee-Wee Herman, Kevin Arnold, and the Cosby family. ...I thought "Karma, karma, karma, karma, karma chameleon" was "Come-a, come-a, come-a, come-a, come-a, come here, Leah..." or something like that, which in my opinion STILL makes more sense. I mean, the Culture Club is talking about a girl/lover here (maybe it should be "come here, Leon"...) ...my sister (4 years old) thought Michael Jackson was cute and wanted to marry him. For that matter, I (6 years old) thought so, too. No more. ...we didn't even have a COMPUTER at our house until I was a teenager, and even then our first PC was a very small, old black-and-white Macintosh. ...I thought Dan Rather of CBS News was President Ronald Reagan. ...there were no cell phones, DVD's, Internet sites, CD's, iPods, or hybrid cars. ...the cars my family drove only had lap belts in the back, and no airbags. ...the New Kids on the Block were the coolest teen band EVER!!!!oneoneone ...$2.00 a gallon of gas was near-impossible, unless you got full-service at a fancy hotel called the Fairmont in California (5 stars). ...they came out with 8-bit Nintendo and our parents wouldn't buy us one. ...my favorite bands were Huey Lewis and the News, Phil Collins, Timbuk 3, the Talking Heads, Linda Ronstadt, Neil Young and Raffi (yes, Raffi!) LONG LIVE THE '80'S!!!! So, when did YOU grow up?
KinchyB
...we didn't even have a COMPUTER at our house until I was a teenager, and even then our first PC was a very small, old black-and-white Macintosh. Ditto on the teenager thing...although ours was an actual PC with a "turbo" button so we could up the speed to a blazing 33 MHZ! I also remember my dad making the comment regarding how much free space we had..."Why would you ever need more room than 30 MB? That's enough room for anything!" *sigh* If it only that were actually true ...LONG LIVE THE '80'S!!!! So, when did YOU grow up? AMEN!

Litofsky
I grew up... ...when the United States had some hope, only to be crushed by Bush. ....when I listened to, and agreed with everything my parents told me. .....when sugar became an addictive substance in the World. Yeah. I'm a bit pessimistic Not sure what else to put. The '90's weren't exactly the 'prime generation.' At least you '70'ers and '80'ers had cool music, or revolutionary ideas. I'm stuck with odd hairstyles, square video-game consoles, and countrywide apathy! At least in the 2000's, you've got some pretty decent technology.* *- Try saying that in twenty, or even ten years from now.
Burnseyy
i grew up when braces were popular XP when you used to say 'omg whats that on your face?... syk!' when the spice girls were the best music on tv and when cartoons were actually good. when the playstation 1 was the best console going.. ahh the 90s. ^_^

Same here, though our first was a Tandem Computer. ...there were no cell phones, DVD's, Internet sites, CD's, iPods, or hybrid cars. No iPods or DVD's, Internet was only slowly beginning to make it through to mainstream, same for CD, cassettes were still hot. ...the cars my family drove only had lap belts in the back, and no airbags. No airbags here, too. ...the Gameboys were hot. ...my favorite song was "Riders on the Storm" from The Doors (which was made 18 years before I was born, but whatever). ...games like Doom and Tomb Raider were a hype. ...Pokémon became a hype. ...The Simpsons started to break through. mur'phon
I grew up... ...In a world who was loosing the ilusion of good and evil ...When global warming was a word only used by eggheads and doom sayers ...When the US was no longer always the good guys ...When the police viretapped people for reading the left wing newspaper ...When video games became the new Satan ...When feminist and socialist became insults, and patriot a compliment ...When the plight of others had nothing to do with me ...When disasters captured the worlds atention for a short time, not long enough to make things work again ...When breaking bones where cool ...When Bush was a blank slate
TriggerGod
...games like Doom and Tomb Raider were a hype. I think that was the primary reason why the PS1/X was a popular system hmm... Arcesious
Well I'm not 18 yet, so... I guess I'm simply growing up in the year it is now... Boba Rhett
There are going to be many, many times in your life where you think that you've finally become fully aware of what's going on in the world. Lito, there was pretty decent technology in all those other decades too. And I'm fairly certain that sugar has been an addiction for quite a long while. Tys, I love ya and your list rocks. Hey, anyone remember when Saturday morning cartoons weren't god awful? They started going to hell around 93 as I recall. P.S. Doom kicked ass! *shakes fist*

Lito, there was pretty decent technology in all those other decades too. And I'm fairly certain that sugar has been an addiction for quite a long while. Sugar is pretty addicting. Sodas, candies (especially candies! ), and most artificially made stuff has sugar of some sort. It tastes great, but it doesn't do your body well As for the technology in the '70's and the '80's, are you telling me that you would rather have the technology of this decade, or of the past two or three decades? Litofsky
Of course not but at any given decade, the tech that was around at the time was considered pretty awesome. In contrast to now... I feel like posting up some images of each decade's technology, but I'm not sure if that's permitted. Of course, a quick example wouldn't be that detrimental (then again, I could be wrong. *Gulp*): 1970's: (At least, I hope that's from the 1970's... ) 2000's:
Aash Li
Computers had 1 colour on the screen. It took several minutes to print a page out. Printers were dot-matrix noisy contraptions. Type-writers were still widely used. TV still only had 3 or 4 channels. Micheal Jackson still looked human. We still had nuclear-blast drills at school. Disco was sill popular. Classic Rock involved music from the 50s and 60s still. Johnny Carson could spell the doom of a tv show by heckling it (rip Automan). I was so disgusted at him for that. Simpsons were only shown on teh Tracey Ullman Show. Starblazers was a popular sunday morning cartoon on network tv. Beta-max was supposedly the newest technology for recording stuff. lol

Mace MacLeod
: 8-track stereos and ashtrays were standard equipment in new cars. : Absolutely everyone on the planet knew the Star Wars theme song and was heartily sick of it. : Teachers didn't even have first names, much less families or lives outside of a classroom. : The only men I ever saw wearing earrings were on the tv news doing something called "protesting". Then Mom changed the channel. : Changing tv channels involved walking. Judicious choice and considerable debate were involved; after all, watching something else called for moving. : Computers were strange, curious things with green screens that had some weird moon-man language written on them. If you knew someone clever, they could type out a series of sentences of confusing gibberish in the monochromatic glowing lime aura, and then a whole lot of confusing gibberish would scroll and scroll, and your little head would peer up uncertainly to the grown-up who would look down in rosy anticipation of your heartfelt validation of their brilliance. You could never see what the big deal was, let alone why everyone was saying these comp-ee-you-tor thingies would be in every home soon. Some bright sparks in the newspaper were saying a "Home Computer Revolution" was coming; it all sounded so dire, as if computers were massing somewhere and marching in drills to prepare for the offensive. In your uncomprehending child's mind, you imagine clunky, grey plastic boxes crouching in the shadows behind the hedges, hunkered down behind the birdfeeder holding little bayonets, waiting for the exact moment to leap out and invade your home!!! : Disco had only been stupid and lame once. : Def Leppard hadn't gotten stupid and lame yet. : The Rolling Stones were only old instead of geriatric. : Having a telephone conversation outside your house or place of work could only be accomplished with a public payphone. If using this phone and someone should approach, the talker would turn away, quiet themselves, hold their hand over the receiver, or just generally try to maintain some level of privacy. : The only place you could encounter the phrase "Ten million dollar NHL hockey player" was in a science fiction novel. Pavlos
Ditto on the teenager thing...although ours was an actual PC with a "turbo" button so we could up the speed to a blazing 33 MHz My sister and I were never allowed to touch that button .
