igyman Posted February 9, 2009 Posted February 9, 2009 Check out my post above, TA. If you already have and it didn't help enough, then I'd like to ask you what has been decided regarding the award categories - will they be more general, or more precise? When I know that answer, I might even be able to produce some constructive award/badge suggestions.
jrrtoken Posted February 9, 2009 Posted February 9, 2009 Annoying Prat, Most Despotic Moderator, Most Flamboyant That's what you're looking for, right?
Pho3nix Posted February 10, 2009 Posted February 10, 2009 I can think of a dozen members who'd definitely earn the "moderator kiss-ass" badge. Just an idea.
ZBomber Posted February 10, 2009 Posted February 10, 2009 While I like the idea, will old awards be replaced when they become insignificant or built upon? Like "Notable Contributor" to "Significant Contributor" to "Massive Contributor" depending on how many things they've done/won? Also, "10 Year Veteran" should replace the regular "Veteran" if you ask me. I personally think that the awards should be scarce. Everyone shouldn't get one simply for existing, like elementary school stickers. They'd seem more impressive that way. I'd suggest combining the "Contest Awards - Fanfiction" with "Notable Contributors" and such. Just my rambling. I don't want this potentially great idea to become another LF Store name-glow mishap. Otherwise, me rikey-rikey. I for one enjoyed the mess that was the Lucasforum store/battle system. Even though glowy names didnt work in firefox.
Det. Bart Lasiter Posted February 10, 2009 Posted February 10, 2009 We're doing another overhaul to the system soon, and we need some ideas. Things like: "You have received a badge for having 500 people post in a thread made by you" stuff. So, any ideas? The staff pool of ideas is beginning to run dry. MAGICAL GIRL AWARD Poster is a magical girl.
Vikinor Posted February 10, 2009 Posted February 10, 2009 I for one enjoyed the mess that was the Lucasforum store/battle system. Even though glowy names didnt work in firefox. Dude, I loved that too. Sometimes I wish they'd bring it back. I'm going to have to say I agree with just about everything in igyman's post. The only thing I really disagree with is the staff member award. I think there should be two. One for current staff and one for retired staff. And Kjølen raises a good point, I thought. That perhaps a 10 year veteran award should take the place of a forum veteran award. As for ideas, I guess just have a lot of awards, some harder to get and more exclusive etc. Maybe even have some only one person can get, it goes on. I am also still firmly supporting the magical girl award.
Kuuki Posted February 10, 2009 Author Posted February 10, 2009 Things like: "You have received a badge for having 500 people post in a thread made by you" stuff. and only 459 more to go,... ...damn...
Lynk Former Posted February 10, 2009 Posted February 10, 2009 I'd like to point out that we'll probably end up having around 20 to even 40 badges at the most once we make all of them... well ideally I'd like them to be that many. Also, there are certain badges which will probably be award multiple times (at least we're talking about that as a possibility)... I think people shouldn't really be concerned about things like the 10 year badge replacing the normal veteran badge. Once we get the system running at 100% all of these seemingly big issues aren't going to seem important anymore. Also, we're also planning on having some badges where members can nominate other members to get this badge... and provide evidence as to why they should get that badge. I think that should alleviate some fears people may have about it being about who sucks up to the moderators.
Sabretooth Posted February 10, 2009 Posted February 10, 2009 I for one enjoyed the mess that was the Lucasforum store/battle system. Even though glowy names didnt work in firefox. Damn I miss that a lot too. Sometimes I pretend I still have my orange glowy name. I spammed worked so hard to get those 1250 posts.
Bob Lion54 Posted February 10, 2009 Posted February 10, 2009 We're tweaking the system as we speak... We're no longer calling them "Awards" now... they're now known as "Badges"... just little notes about a member. "Glomps" Damnit.

Well it's not really a that big of an issue, it's just why not take in a few ideas outside the admin and mods while you're still creating the system? Also, we're also planning on having some badges where members can nominate other members to get this badge... and provide evidence as to why they should get that badge. I think that should alleviate some fears people may have about it being about who sucks up to the moderators. thats a good idea I'd just like to nominate (now) Kjo for his whoring up the various forums with his "Kjo Round's" a few years back

igyman Posted February 10, 2009 Posted February 10, 2009 Besides making the forums more fun and colorful, I'm guessing these badges are there to also promote the friendly atmosphere, civilized behavior, obeying the forum rules, etc. That said, it might be a good idea to have one or two badges that can be won fairly easily, so as to motivate people to participate in various other forum activities. As far as badge suggestions go, I have a couple of those for everyone's consideration: People Person - given to members who have <number> or more friends on the forum. Game Master - for those active in the RP sections. Perhaps there could be a thread every few months for members to nominate the best forum RPs and the member who started the "best forum RP" in that period would get this badge. I've noticed there's a new "Helpful" badge. My last suggestion would be that either this one, or the "Notable contributor" badge be also given to members who have contributed to the forums by making a significant amount of avatars/signature images/banners/etc for their fellow members.
Kuuki Posted February 10, 2009 Author Posted February 10, 2009 I like the RP badge thing it'll go great with the 'Cantina' series
Astor Posted February 10, 2009 Posted February 10, 2009 I don't think that it's such a bad thing for staff to have a badge showing that they're staff - the staff over at Total War Center, for example, have both bold, coloured, text, and badges denoting that they're a member of staff. Just my 2 cents, but I don't necessarily see it as 'redundant'.

I think if they had two staff badges for current and retired it might clear things up.
Mav Posted February 14, 2009 Posted February 14, 2009 and only 459 more to go,... +1 On-Topic - If you're looking to add ridiculously easily obtained badges there are a few obvious ones that come to mind. Birthday Badge - for spending a birthday at LF Do it Yourself Badge - using a custom avatar/sig pic Friend Badge - make X amount of friends Survival Badge - go X amount of time without being modded XD Referral Badge - for getting a friend to sign up for LF, don't know if this is "trackable" atm though Yea most of those are stupid, but that's all I got for now.

EnderWiggin Posted February 14, 2009 Posted February 14, 2009 Yeah, I agree. A badge might be easier to notice too. I used to get confused by seing a bolded name but no status. I think if they had two staff badges for current and retired it might clear things up. I think a retired staff badge would be ok, but still redundant since we have the italicized names for that. As for a bolded name with no status, that indicates that the person is a moderator in a different forum. If you're seeing that, that means that the person has no power where you currently are. How will giving them a staff badge help newer members to understand that? _EW_

What does 1,730 replies in an abomination topic earn me? (Edit: Actually, this abomination earned 4,046 replies before it was murdered, yet due to a date/time glitch, Lynk Former's post was somehow appended above mine, and so the "credit" for creating that thread is somewhat ambiguous.)
Kuuki Posted February 14, 2009 Author Posted February 14, 2009 Referral Badge - for getting a friend to sign up for LF, don't know if this is "trackable" atm though In that case: Rogue for Hire will get one for refering me. and I'd get one for refering both Jango Clone and SuicideXwing
EnderWiggin Posted February 15, 2009 Posted February 15, 2009 Just a question. Could someone clarify for me the requirements needed for the Vet badge? Because I figure if Ave and J7 have one, would it also be reasonable to think that someone like Sabre, TK, or Dev should have one? If that is the case, I will ask for a formal recommendation in the Badge Rec thread but I wanted to ask this question first. Thanks. _EW_
igyman Posted February 15, 2009 Posted February 15, 2009 I second that question. To me a forum veteran means someone who's been here a certain amount of time and has experience when it comes to behaving properly on these forums. The Veteran badge description says: "Awarded to active long-time members who are part of making LF what it is today." This seems to confirm my understanding of the forum veteran term, however, some of the reasons why this badge is given to people seem to comply more with the "Notable contributor" and "Helpful" badges and others are completely unclear (eg. "Aresener", "Emperor of Aresen"), which makes me extremely confused.
Ray Jones Posted February 15, 2009 Posted February 15, 2009 The Emperor of Aresen is your daddy, and thus you are not allowed to speak ill of him or the Imperial Aresen Establishment in any way. You have been warned.
EnderWiggin Posted February 15, 2009 Posted February 15, 2009 completely unclear (eg. "Aresener", "Emperor of Aresen"), which makes me extremely confused. The rogue squadron forum is one huge boys' club _EW_
