Vast amounts of unobtainable wealth (Found only in Hint Book!)

Just for the hell of it I started messing with cleaning up the MI2 hint guide maps (all linked below). The most interesting one to me is the map of the Dinky tunnels, which features an additional room.

It amuses me that Guybrush was a literal foot away from falling into a room full of unobtainable wealth.

Those are the maps that will be included on the reverse side of the Monkey Island Anthology mini-posters. I was wondering where they were from, now I know.

It also implies that Big Whoop was actually treasure... it's just Guybrush slightly missed the mark. Probably just a joke for the hint book though.

The extra room seems to be there just to poke fun at Guybrush. And fun at Guybrush’s expense is the best kind of fun!

All these illustrations are so dang good. I love these maps! Imagine how Mêlée Island would look drawn like this...

 

Interesting, on Scabb Island, there is no dock for Captain Dread's ship. There's just his house. Miscommunication or were the maps drawn super early in production?

I used to bring the MI2 hint book with me on road trips to read in the back of the car. And I'm still waiting for someone to track down Jo ' Captain Tripps' Ashburn and ask him how much he wants to write a narrative walkthrough for TMI and complete the set.

Yeah, it's well written. The end of the Monkey 2 hint book is quite chilling.

I had never seen this before as I don't have the hint books for neither MI1 or MI2, but MI1 hint book also contains similar maps for Mélêe Island, Monkey Island, Sea Monkey and LeChuck's ship. Depending on the version, they might be blue or red. I found some scans, but the quality is not great.
