ThunderPeel2001
I just came across this insane Indiana Jones prop replica store. Everything on there looks far too good to be true. Am I about to get ripped off if I buy a Grail Diary? My excitement is clouding my reason. What am I missing here? https://www.kittiway.com/collections/indiana-jones-collection-50-off - DO NOT TRUST! UPDATE: THE ABOVE LINK LOOKS DODGY - WITH IMAGES FROM OTHER ETSY SELLERS! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED! Edited April 30, 2022 by ThunderPeel2001
Lagomorph01
Wow. This actually looks really good! I love that they also have an orichalcum machine from Fate of Atlantis. I’d be careful with buying something though. When something seems too good to be true, it usually is. Maybe start by ordering one thing, and going from there? ThunderPeel2001
I went to https://www.kittiway.com and it’s made me think the whole is very very dodgy. Bah Also the image on the header of the Indy page looks weird. Why would they pick they of they really were fans and not a fake store. Need to discover where those images are from. #iwanttobelieve Edited April 29, 2022 by ThunderPeel2001
TimeGentleman
Yeah, the main thing that would hold me back is how amazing that diary seems to be for only £40 (make sure you've got 'prop replica' style selected). 235 pages of content, plus 24 impressive inserts, themed packaging, and it's all hand-aged..! Plus they have 'made in the USA' logos, but they're based in China, they don't have a Facebook or Instagram (the links just take you to those sites' homepage) and there are only two reviews for it which are both dated in the last couple of days, and in the video on one of those reviews all the inserts look massive, which is a bit odd. If I could find a reddit thread or something with some reviews that didn't feel astroturfed, I might be tempted to risk the £40+p&p..! edit: I did find this while googling around! https://www.etsy.com/uk/listing/537089950/make-your-own-grail-diary-200-high And also this unwrapping of a pre-made one (also from etsy, but it's £150): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ShgKh1WHUDA They all seem to be working with very similar material, maybe kittiway bought that pdf pack and are willing to make it up for people on the cheap, I dunno... ThunderPeel2001
Looks like I found the original on Etsy: Same images and same wording. £150... much more expected! https://www.etsy.com/uk/listing/730309245/the-grail-diary-last-crusade-inspired Edited April 29, 2022 by ThunderPeel2001
Laserschwert
DON'T ORDER THERE! That's is one of the typical scam sites, which pop up all over social media, all the time. They usually steal their images from sites like Etsy. Their store pages look all the same, each time. If something looks too good to be true, it usually isn't. There's no reason for Indiana Jones props to be that cheap.
TimeGentleman
Yeah, that's the £150 one I linked to an unboxing of! (He links to it in his pinned comment.)

Laserschwert
Truth be told, I fell for them one time, on massively reduced Star Wars Black Series helmets. Never again!

Laserschwert
Nope, money was gone. My credit card company said there's nothing they could do, since I voluntarily gave them my credit card number to order. If my order wouldn't show up after a few months, I could make them start an investigation, but that would have cost a fee, plus it most likely wouldn't have resulted in anything anyway, they told me. Your bank might have been trying to fob you off making a claim, but you should be able to get that back if you paid with a credit card. I hope it wasn't much. Benny
Normally I don't like any of this kind of stuff but the Fate of Atlantis idol does look good. This looks to be the original source of the model, I've found it unpainted on ebay but this painted one from Etsy does look good.

KestrelPi
Randomly came across this article about what looks like the thing you're talking about. Surprisingly she does get something. Unsurprisingly it's not very high quality https://the-gadgeteer.com/2022/05/25/indiana-jones-grail-diary-replica-review/ Edited May 27, 2022 by KestrelPi
ThunderPeel2001
Wow. I'm amazed they got anything at all! Although it was clearly a scam in the sense that they didn't match the images (which were stolen from another site), they did receive a facsimile of the dairy. Bonkers. It's actually better than I would have expected!
Huz
There's an interesting bit in the comments (always read the comments!) that says the site in question is known for offering copyright infringing copies of real items, so it looks like that's what the reviewer got. Which means there must be a legit item out there somewhere - the diary contents are quite impressive if the item is a pure scam, after all - it's just a question of finding it. Your life's work begins here, TP.

Scummbuddy
Hmm, I'm quite curious as to who was selling those Fate of Atlantis posters and to what level of official artwork they are using... or "borrowed" from @Laserschwert Edited May 27, 2022 by Scummbuddy
