  1. Same, I don't want to see anything more. But of course I will study every new tweet thoroughly.

  3. They absolutely nailed it. Everything about this scene just feels perfect, it illicits just the right mood and I already can't wait to explore Melee Island again. What a tease though! Such a short clip and already I'm dying for next week to get the next little tidbit. There is something playing on my mind though and I wonder if anyone else is feeling this at all. I'm a little concerned that too much of the game will take place in locations we've seen before. Hopefully Melee is just a small portion of the game (mainly Part 1) and there's more to Brr Muda and Terror Island than we've gotten a glimpse of, maybe even another island aswell? It's also a little worrying that we've seen so many returning characters. Maybe this is all just by design for marketing purposes to really focus on pulling our nostalgic heartstrings to not spoil the new stuff, I hope that's the case. I'll admit I was a little disappointed to see that both the Voodoo Lady and Otis are in the exact same location we first met them in the original game. I just hope this isn't The Force Awakens of Monkey Island and really is its own unique story that adds to the world.

  4. Agreed with that, it was exciting to think about returning to Melee but then the island had very little of the look or even feel of Melee Island to it, so in my mind, it still doesn't feel like we've gone back to melee since MI1 even though we have.

  5. Oh I am not scared about spoilers at all, and am sure that the team won't show anything they don't want us to see. All that is public seems well thought out and considerately picked. I just wish I could explore Mêlée Island for the first time on my own. But that is all a question of self-restraint and I am not criticizing the team (developers and publishers). #MonkeyIslandMonday is a pretty smart marketing move, and it makes me happy that it excites more and more people every week.

  6. The order of Tim and Dave's credit on the box should be flipped on 50% of the boxes!

  7. Yeah, we are seeing an awful lot of returning characters and locations so far (in fact, there are more than I expected since the initial announcement), but we're also seeing a good amount of new elements too. And yes, I think you're right, they're using the nostalgia element to hook us back in. And it's working! But I wouldn't say no to being teased about some of the new stuff too. Hearing music on Melee Island, while it actually maintains the MI1 Melee Island geography is very satisfying! It was actually something that I was wondering might have been updated for the MI1 Special Edition since MI1 has a very limited, disc-space conscious soundtrack, and I was curious if we might've seen, perhaps, an optional "Supplemental Music" toggle for MI1SE, in which Melee Island's music from EMI, for example, plays on Melee instead of just being silent. And then other scenes could be supplemented with music from the other games too (i.e. the Rollercoaster of Death music underneath the fight in the Governers' Mansion, etc.) But I digress, having canonical music to match these geographical-accurate locations almost makes me want them to be ported over to MI1 more now! I never really understood why EMI changed the layout of Melee/Monkey/The Tri Island Area map so much. In that game it seemed to be done mainly for the sake of it rather than for any plot-related reason. I think for the most part, they could've gotten away with keeping the original geography of those areas intact without impacting the puzzles too much. Maybe extend the town slightly to allow room for the Charles L Charles statue, or something, but I didn't think it was a case where the entire layout of the islands needed to be overhauled!

  11. All respect to McCartney, McCartney/Lennon always looked weird to me. (DOTT is pretty much Rubber Soul.)

  12. They're playing up the TSoMI locations and characters disproportionately right now to lure the nostalgic crowd back on board, I think. Now that I know they're aiming at recreating iconic backgrounds with basically the TSoMI perspectives, I'm pretty convinced that we ain't seen nothing yet. 🤘 Take Melee Island: Of all the new content, it was the island they most focused on. We've seen the docks, the lookout, the scumm bar interior, voodoo hut, prison, locksmith, and just a little bit of the governor's mansion interior. What we haven't seen on Melee Island is Hook Island exterior/interior, Stan's brand new Sunken Vessels above/below water, the shop interior, church interior, troll bridge, streets, the extensive woods, overview map, treasure clearing, circus clearing, Carla's old hut, governor's mansion exterior, Ten O'Clock Square, Smirk's hut ext/int., Scumm bar kitchen/back door docks, and probably half a dozen additional places I can't remember right now. I'm pretty sure they'll recreate most if not all of these iconic places/backgrounds and then add some new ones. ... and we've seen next to nothing of Monkey Island, Brr Muda and Terror Island.

  13. I seem to be a bit more relaxed about both the spoilers and the potential direction of the game in that... Well, first, I don't think they're spoiling too much, and in fact I think it's less spoilery to show off locations we already have seen in previous games than new ones. Since we already knew the scumm bar and melee island was in the game, it's not really surprising that the docks are also there... and though our eagle eyes might have revealed a couple of more tidbits about carla and the ghost pirates, I'm sure plenty of thought must have gone into what to show and what not to show. There's no doubt in my mind the game is going to be full of surprises when we get to play it. In fact, there's at least one member of this forum that could confirm that for us Secondly I think that yes, they are absolutely showing us familiar stuff to tug some nostalgia strings, but in the early interviews they were also falling over themselves to say that they wanted this to be a modern monkey island game, not a throwback, so I really don't think that they're just going to do a retread. Remember the stuff Ronzo and Dave said as well, about how they only wanted to do the game if they thought they had a good story to tell? There's a reason they're going back to Melee, and part of it might be that it's probably the most possible nostalgia location to return to but it must also be because it serves the story. In fact, I have a little hunch based on some of these things that one of the things that the game might touch on thematically is a little bit of a meta commentary on nostalgia and the things that are good and bad about that (we also saw this in the recent new version of the Stanley Parable, for example, done much more directly). I mean, look at what we have, an older Guybrush, being controlled by older fans, being developed by older developers, returning to the place of his youth where all the adventures started. What could be a more perfect set up for a commentary about nostalgia than that? So I think there's a bit more to this choice than we currently understand. So nah, I'm not really concerned that it's going to be a retread, and I'm not really worried we're seeing too much. They know what they're doing. Maybe I'll feel differently after 10 weeks of this.

  14. Guys...this is SO good. If I was been a little skeptical after the trailer about some little details, this clip just blow me out. I'm thinking that this art stile is like a cup of coffe without sugar: it may taste a little bitter at the beginning and takes time to get used to, but once you are, you start to enjoy the bitter taste and you can't go back to that artificial swetness anymore. Now...It's like if everything just click. I'm 100% in.

  15. Craig has already confirmed to me that it's not licensed merch, but going after them is like decapitating Hydras. I'm still in contact with them though, and they are still trying to come up with proof of their Mobygames-based source (which isn't possible). Best quote from them: Surely the words of an innocent man.

  16. I’d also prefer a funny video from the recordings, a hint at new (?) gameplay mechanics or the switch controls, maybe a spoiler free interview with Ron & Dave. Things that keep the hype up without spoiling too much (even if that maybe is a bit late now 😅).

  17. Well then, on to more speculation instead of discussing all the new things we know. 😎 I always wanted Act/Part II to have one giant ocean map and lots of islands to explore. But Guybrush already knows how to get to Monkey Island – what if Monkey Island becomes available rather early on in the overview map, and the finale plays out on yet another island, one we haven't yet heard about?

  18. After the recent spectacular MixNMojo retrospective with Larry Ahern and Jonathan Ackley where among other things they mentioned that they had sealed CMI boxes from around the world, I reached out to them. I mentioned that it was likely the South Korean release of CMI has an actual cloth map within the box. There was one post about it over on the LucasArts Museum website of which the linked image is a dead link and I couldn't yet find my saved copy of the image on my old computer. Never intimidated by a treasure hunt, Jonathan Ackley discovered this:

  19. I want to know how *deep* this recreation of Mêlée goes. Looking at today's clip and how well it recreates SMI's rendition it could be pretty direct on town layout. Very cool 😀

  20. Ooooh, true, true. I was assuming that if they'd ganked somebody's art, they probably weren't clearing it with LucasArts, but I suppose they could totally do both. FWIW, IANAL, but I suspect Laserschwert would have options. Just because you don't have the rights to profit off your work, I'm not sure that means somebody who holds the rights does. Prolly more trouble/expense than it's worth for anything more than a shame campaign, tho. Also I could be completely talking out my ass.

  21. I saw that post about CMI cloth map which lead me to riffle through my Korean big box collection and figured hey, why not take some photos and post it here (since detailed look at international releases are hard to come by and I find it interesting). If you have other interesting international release(s) you want to share please feel free to post here! Monkey Island 2. One of my most prized possessions. The name of the Korean distributor is Dong Seo Game Channel. I don't know the exact release date... probably 91 or 92? I appreciate the font treatment. Back cover. ₩25,000 (approx $19 USD, not adjusted for inflation). Some interesting differences compared to North American release (which I'll go into later). The cover is actually a thin paper sleeve that goes over the featureless cardboard box. Reference card, printed on a thick, quality, textured cardboard stock. I like. The manual and Mix N' Mojo copy protection wheel. In offensive xerox-proof burgundy. Was it also burgundy in other regions? 6 high-density 5.25" floppy disks. Nothing unusual here. It says "Hintbook" but it's actually the whole walkthrough. Back in those days games almost never got localization treatment in Korea, so it was pretty common for an adventure game to ship with a full walkthrough. (the last paragraph in the walkthrough says that the joy of adventure games is figuring out on your own without looking stuff up. Now they tell me!) The back cover has pretty faithful translation by and large, but with some weird (sometimes inexplicable) differences: The first 2 lines are kind of adjectival? They loosely say "Arrogant" and "Disgusting". The "He's Back" part is the same. No, it does not rhyme. The excerpt has no source! Who's speaking?!? The bulletpoints are pretty dry and humourless. "Interactive Jamaican music" without the accent. "Separate mode for beginners and magazine reviewers" but written completely seriously. No "void where prohibited" (I guess the phrase doesn't translate well) Weird. Obviously the same screenshot, but it's cropped differently. The caption simply says "realistic graphics". Nothing about expectorations. Again, pretty humourless. Again cropped differently. "There's always something scary behind a pirate's chair"? Not quiet the same meaning, but fine... This one an odd one out. It's not uncommon for boxes or promotion materials to use work-in-progress screenshots, so I didn't think much of it, until I saw scans of the North American release, and it's completely different! Korean release uses a screenshot with MI1 interface and Guybrush. The caption says "Dig up graves of pirates to find clues". What clues!? I guess whoever translated it thought that it's too rude to dig up graves without a good reason or something. As far as international game covers go, not bad. The humour is completely gone, but nothing grievously misleading (I've seen worse)

  22. Bonus Monkey Island 1 (VGA) This one is quite boring. They didn't bother translating any of the text (not even the title! how were they supposed to know what the game is even called??) Again distributed by Dong Seo Game Channel. 90 or 91? who can say. Curiously the text is all misaligned, but otherwise the same as North American release. ₩20000 (Approx $15 USD not adjusted for inflation) The reference card is clearly a cheap photocopy. Disappointing. I'm surprised that they bothered with the full-colour printing of copy protection wheel. The manual is in black and white and very cheap. 4 high density 5.25" floppies. The manual contains full walkthrough (not a separate book like MI2). The solution to the insult swordfighting puzzle photographed here.
