  2. Featuring what I think is a first-ever name reveal for our favorite crate-toting ghost pirate!

  3. That's the first video I have not going to watch. The puzzle? OK, fine, but four minutes of dialogue, etc. is a bridge too far.

  4. Yeah, this is the first video I regret watching, but only a little bit lol On the plus side, I'm happy nothing bad happened to Wally in this clip. Also, is it just me or is Guybrush really well liked by many of the characters so far?

  6. This bit from the Eurogamer piece is interesting (and a bit annoying to me, personally) Absolutely do not get the fan obsession with Guybrush and Elaine. In the first game they met twice and had a deliberately corny, unrealistic romance. In 2 it had gone bad and the one big scene with her goes badly. In CMI she spends most of her time as a statue then they get married. In EMI they're married happily but mostly Elaine just sends Guybrush on errands. Only in Tales do they actually put in any real work to make any sort of comment about the sort of commitment their relationship is, and even in that both characters appear to have some romantic chemistry with other characters (even if it turns out at the end Elaine was faking hers). It's not exactly the greatest love story ever told. Why can't they be a little unhappy in marriage? Why can't we have stories in games that explore that kind of relationship? They clearly WANTED to. πŸ˜• Ah well, I'll try to follow my own rule and try not to wish for the game to be something it isn't. It's just a bit frustrating to see that they couldn't make that sort of thing work.

  12. I've finally gotten around to gathering all the memo's and letters from Monkey Islandβ„’ and I've collected my paper crafted replicas too. I wrote the "legalese" for the rest of the letter. To: Herman Toothrot From: Yammer, Hem, and Haw, attorneys at law Re: Suit against cannibal tribe over malicious tossing of your oars into a chasm. I think we have a case here. We can probably soak them for emotional distress and possibly punitive damages as well. β€œHmm. Sounds like Legalese. 13. MI2 wasn't about that, though it is wrapped into the narrative of Guybrush being deadset on finding Big Whoop. When Elaine gives him the opportunity to stop the quest and choose their relationship instead, Guybrush rejects that path and continues pursuing the treasure. (This sort of obsession shows up in The Cave as one of its main themes!) Secret is when they fell in love with each other. In Revenge she would have still taken him back, but he decisively chose the treasure quest over her. In Curse, his actions have literally objectified her (Guybrush really is Elaine's only weakness), and he has to make things right by reversing his decision - choosing Elaine over treasure. In Curse, Guybrush quests to undo the damage he has caused Elaine - both symbolically over the years and literally just now with his accidental curse. He transforms her back into a human being, but something something he also transforms himself back into the person she fell in love with.

  14. Thing is, now it's so close, I don't really want to watch it. I don't feel like I'm missing much. I'm pretty much through wanting to speculate on new material. Just want to play it now.

  15. I just skimmed through the gameplay video (watched like 20 seconds total), but one thing I absolutely loved was the Melee Island map theme being interspersed in the new Melee Town music

  19. I ran a couple of polls on the bigger LucasFans Facebook groups (18+K members). It was something like only 2% were actually upset with the artwork. Most were for positive or passive about it. Trying to find the screenshot I took of the poll!

  22. I finally got it, folks. 🀯 Back when Dave said that chronology might become difficult, he meant that it might become difficult with the Monkey Island game that's next after ReMI. Return to Monkey Island concludes the timeline – not the series – with an older protagonist who finally gets his shit together. But video game characters aging in that way, that's unheard of in this kind of serialization. Directors of future Monkey Island games will likely choose to place their story between Tales and Return, get him back to his younger self. These games will be prequels to ReMI. This of course means that Ron could kill off Guybrush at the end. Just saying. πŸ˜…

  23. Sounds like I'll be able to start playing immediately after finishing up work on Monday, so works out great for me. Unfortunate for British folks who already have the day off, though.

  24. From the Nintendo UK site: Content will usually be available at 14:00 GMT (15:00 CET) on the day of release. Please note: some third-party titles may not be not available until 17:00 GMT (18:00 CET) on the game’s release date. So my guess is 9am PT / 5pm BST. Which seriously sucks, because in the UK we're all off work that day and everything's going to be shut.

  26. in asia-pacific time zones (including Australia and New Zealand), the release date on Steam is shown as the 20th. Sometimes, on Switch, you can play a game a few hours earlier if you set your country to Australia or New Zealand or another GMT+11 timezone. I've seen people online saying its worked for first party Nintendo titles in the past, but I can't guarantee it'll work here. I've also never personally tried it, because I've never been keen enough on a switch game to want it ASAP + I already live in Australia, so my switch country is already there.

  27. Yeah, I'm not holding my breath either (at least not for 10 minutes) - many games use that schedule, so I had very small hope that maybe it would be same in this instance as well. Either way, it's mere hours at that point, after years and years of not even thinking this game would ever happen.

  28. Should we start sooner? πŸ€” Those are two very different times? (Also releasing 12am EDT would mean 9pm PDT the previous day (Sunday), so not too likely, unfortunately.)

  29. (Aside: Incidentally, why has nobody ever made a rubber chicken with a pulley in the middle merch offering? Even just a keyring or something?)

  30. Yeah, I would very much prefer them to break the Monkey Monday pattern and just release at 12am EST and maybe 11am EST can be like a launch trailer or something. Either way, just a few more days!

  31. This is the third appearance of one of those Swordfighting books (From Devolver's Twitter) There's definitely a new mechanic different from insults in this game, methinks (Spoiler tagged for those who don't want to see anymore screenshots)

  32. After bull-riding, peeking at the big RtMI spoiler-frizzy thread is one of the most dangerous sports ever. From time to time I want to post something there, but then I have to be extremely careful not to read spoilers or simple revelations in subsequent replies. I have developed a method of quickly scrolling through blocks of text without trying to figure out what they say, leaving it to my mind to spot suspicious keywords and instinctively stop to "read". So far it has worked. Unless I've memorized everything subliminally and I'll play the game with the constant feeling that I've already done it all.

  33. I've got it! The elevator is the Master's Tardis! Kidding aside, I'd quite like it if some more overt sci-fi themes crop up with regard to the 'secret'. I'm well up for an interdimensional, spacio-temporal portal flittering in and out of existence around the Caribbean. But I suspect Ron will choose to be more subtle and ambiguous than that.

  34. Love that extra reprise (is it a reprise? I don't have a clue) at the end of the Monkey Island theme. The music during the scrapbook is great, but not that much different than what we've heard in the TSoMI special edition, if there's a difference at all.

  35. You know, I think I'm going to reminisce by looking through the manuals for the first two games... SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER!!!! 🀯 Yes, the MI1 manual hints you toward sneaking in the kitchen and going to the dock to mess with the seagull. I guarantee I read it when I was younger. If modern Let's Players are having a harder time with the seagull puzzle than we all did, it might be related to this. SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER!!!! 🀯 Pick up Sign; get a Shovel. I distinctly remember reading this puzzle solution, because it's the sort of puzzle I would have probably missed for a while if the manual hadn't told me.
