The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion has officially been rated M by the ESRB.

http://biz.gamedaily.com/industry/feature/?id=12604

Which leaves me thinking....

(Ted and Ed are fictional Bethesda Softworks employees)

Ted: Hey Ed, have you heard about that "Hot coffee" scandal at Rockstar because of their sex minigame in San Andreas?

Ed: Yeah! It would be pretty stupid of anyone to attempt to sneak nudity past the ESRB or to mislead them in any way now!

Ted: Yeah, its a good thing such a hugely anticipated game such as ours doesn't have anything like that!

HAHAHAHHAHAHA!!!

Ermm... yes... it's kinda bad, but it's got a new status now. :p

(It's the new Hot Coffee!)

But hasn't the game already sold like, 1.7 million copies? Oh well, it doesn't matter. I love the game, so I'm not bashing it. And atleast it wasn't rated AO, that would suck.

First of all, that mod was 100% fan-made, while the Hot Coffee mod restored cut content, so Oblivion should have stayed rated T. If mods were taken into account, every game would be rated M or AO, even if said mod was incredibly obscure.

Are game makers just trying to currupt socity? I mean, I did some research on the affects of video games (call me a nerd) and I read bunches of stories on kids killing people and the only real thing they had in common was that they all played the same violent or obscene game. I mean, not to sound all liberal or anything, games clearly do have affects on kids, and I think it was the right choice to raise the rating.

Thank god. Now millions of minivan-driving soccer moms won't actually have to monitor what they're kids are doing, how mature they are, and whether or not a game is suitable for them-now they can just glance at a label on the front of the game and not have to worry about it. What a big f***in' relief.

I don't see why they needed to change the rating for SA nor do I see a reason for changing it for Oblivion. Third party mods are just that - third party. The developer does not have control over what other people do, and the additional content was clearly locked down where it could not be accessed without a mod for that express purpose. The game shouldn't have had its rating changed.

I frown upon your post.

You are misguided sir.

"The content causing the ESRB to change the rating involves more detailed depictions of blood and gore than were considered in the original rating"

I think anyone that has actually played it will admit that there is a LOT of violence in Oblivion, as well as large amounts of blood (play through the Dark Brotherhood quests if you don't believe me). Personally, when it came out, I was completely suprised that it was not rated M, because I believe beyond a doubt that it is violent enough for it.

So remember, while the third party mod with "unlocked" nudity is complete bull****, it just brought about something that probably should have happened in the first place.

At least it's not AO.

Actually, Bethesda actually had fully tetured breasts for women already in place, which is why the ESRB re-rated it, methinks.

There are plenty of "naked jan" and "naked tavion" mods for jedi outcast, but since the nude texturing is third party, it won't change the game's rating.

I... I must admit, I've had feelings that I should get a 60 lbs daedric claymore, don a massive suit of armor, then go to 7-11 Novaroma and kill the owner with a 6x sneak attack and then loot the place and pay a 200 gold fine and be scott free within minutes. Yes.

This is the biggest load of horse**** I've ever seen.

This is bad for them, since now I most likely won't be able to get it without HEAVILY convincing my mom that it's a mod, that I don't give 2 ****s about because I'm not a retarted 12 year old in his basement that would rather look at pixilated jublies in a video game then real ones, I'll most likely end up just downloading a pirated version :(

Damn damn damn damn damn.

San Andreas made me want gold teeth and a Glock.

Half-Life 2 made me want to see people being controlled by giant head-sucking parasites scream for their lives with their guts showing through their open front sides, and then blow in half in slow motion after I hit them with high explosives.

Actually, I did see that! :^:

>.>

By the way, there are visible female nipples in the unmodded texture folder for Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3, and that's still rated teen.

There's visible nipples on my body.

I cannot tell whether they are male or female though... what qualifies as a female/male nipple? :p

I think this is rather goofy; third party mods don't qualify as part of the game... the EULA I think states that it's their fault for modifying it... :/

What if there was a mod that takes a texture from an existing topless male model and maps it to a female model. What then? You're still technically using the stuff in the game.

It's just dumb.

.... I 60 lb claymore and suit of armor would be pretty cool though....

:(

Yeah, I would use it to beat sense into Jack Thompson and all the overprotective soccer moms.

Kids can look at porn very easily, they can watch videos where people get drunk and fight eachother, they can do all kinds of ****. But $50 video games? Oh God no! I've been playing M rated since I was around 8 and I've never gotten into a fight in school or anything like that.

Retarded. :\

Shame Shame Shame

Don't give me that bull****, I feel no shame for if I can't actually buy it and end up downloading it. I do feel sorry for Bethesda for creating an AWSOME game, and getting bull****ted like this :(

Note to mods, I aint downloadin anything, nor advocating piracy.

"The content causing the ESRB to change the rating involves more detailed depictions of blood and gore than were considered in the original rating, as well as the presence of a locked-out art file or 'skin' that, if accessed through a third party modification to the PC version of the game, allows the user to play with topless versions of female characters," said the ESRB in a release.

This is absurd...

So this means basically they can change the rating every time some schmuck makes a "mod"?!

If that is the case, they better change the rating on the original Tomb Raider, oh and "Naked Tavion" anyone? YEP better change the rating on JO/JA too. Can't be having this third party nudity nonsense.
