I admit I find it funny to see how some of you genuinely believe that the Player character has died before the events in the 2nd chapter of a trilogy of games which themselves draw so much inspiration from Hollywood action movies based on the events of a single small teaser trailer. Especially given the fact that Bioware Dev's in the past have stated that you will have the ability to transfer your character from the first game to the second. :p

2 words; marketing hype. Or if you prefer; Good marketing. :)

To be fair, BioWare told us you would be able to take command of party members in Mass Effect, showed us videos of it and then proceeded to deny that they ever did anything of the sort. They could have changed their plans. But the fact that we're talking about it more or less proves your point: they know how to market their games.

I hope it is possible ingame to castrate Udina. I loved

<snipped, I can't remember how to do spoiler tags!>

Definitely one of the best videogame moments ever. I loved it when Udina was snide about it in the endgame as well;o

Bah, now I really really want to get my grubby little hands on Mass Effect 2. I am a sheeple, okay? >.>

i hate speculation, but this was just too much of a shocker for it not to be speculated on. its fairly typical of great storytelling (setting up something predictable then smashing it so hard that things have to go in a completely unexpected direction), but after what they did with KotOR's storyline, its not that much of a surprise to see them do something like this.

now for some gameplay footage to get the fire seriously stoked....

So I guess this is the official Mass Effect 2 thread?

Mass Effect 2 has been announced for an early 2010 release. I translate "early 2010" as Q1 2010 so we should be a year or a bit less from being able to play it, assuming the schedule doesn't slip. Considering Bioware's track record for making originally announced release dates however it wouldn't be all that surprising to me if ME2's release schedule does slip to Q2 or Q3 2010.

EDIT: Forgot to mention that ME2 is coming to both PC and Xbox 360.

Do they say at the same date, or the PC version coming out six months after the 360 port, with SecuROM, to make you wait longer.

Just a stupid idea perhaps, but:

On the news about ME2, I'd like to stick out this passage:

increased depth of planet exploration

If this mean less Mako hovering on side planets, I'm excited.

Agreed. All the bases looked the same...I was pretty disappointed when

The Amazon order page has revealed some plot information:

  Quote
"The second chapter in the Mass Effect trilogy takes you to the darkest reaches of space, where you must uncover the mystery behind the disappearance of humans across many worlds. Prepare yourself for a suicide mission to save mankind. Travel the galaxy to assemble a team of soldiers and combat specialists, and launch an all-out assault on the heart of enemy territory."

Thoughts?

What if it means now you explore the entire planet with the Mako, instead of just that little patch? :xp:

Who is this enemy for which you speak? Without that information I do not know what to think.

I think it can only be one:

First interview since that teaser trailer was made public, I guess. Well, I'm expecting something neat.

I'm at hour 27 on my latest Mass Effect playthrough. I'm amazed at how slitghly different it is from when I played as an earthborn, sole surviving renegade.

I didn't much care for the teaser. Like the Modern Warfare 2 teaser, it sucked. I want a real trailer.

IGN's been speaking to BioWare's founders, Doctors Greg Zeschuk and Ray Muzyka, at the Game Developers Conference 2009 about Mass Effect 2, BioWare's future projects, as well as a few points on Dragon Age.

"Exploration, we're still trying to tighten up that experience," Muzyka continued. "It's still optional and there's still uncharted world that'll be optional, but we want every single one of them to feel like they're adding something important to the main storyline. So you feel yeah they're optional, but I feel like I really want to do that. So that's a philosophy change too."

Nice to see they're learning from mistakes...

Whatever this means. Tweaks on the exploration, gotcha, but will it be enough?

Here is some leaked gameplay footage from GDC. It's at a very early stage in development and is just showing off the gameplay so besides possibly spoiling what one mission might be in the final game, there are no spoilers to worry about. The PC looks different from their default Shepard from the original ME so no telling who you actually play as in this game.

It seems people are freaking out over whether you play as Shepard and whether you'll be importing completed game saves. From what I've read, it seems the completed game saves will determine a player's "state of the galaxy," based on decisions in ME1.

And in that Gametrailers TV bit, the guy said that we'd be playing the game from "different perspectives." So Shepard can be dead or die into the game, and then we play as someone else.
