Megakles
Cool to hear Dominic liked it. I updated my site with the new Voodoo... http://www.loneclone.de/projects/monkey.htm I might post some pictures later. Again, too tired That is so amazing. I grew up on the first two Monkey Island games, and what I always loved about them was their amazing sense of atmosphere. I always wanted to visit the locations. For me, that sense of escapism was lost when the change of art style was introduced in the later games. But you have done something remarkable. You have made these worlds come alive. I can't say how amazed I am at this. Unlike the SOMI:SE which was hit and miss at best, your approach takes everything about the game that was great and makes them better. THIS is the approach I would like to see for all MI games, not just an MI2 remake but all future games. Sorry to Tales of MI, but I just don't care for your art style. THIS is Monkey Island. SyntheticGerbil
Cool stuff Guy.brush, I really like the voodoo chair. I kind of prefer the original foreground drawings over the new 3D models, but then you wouldn't have been able to move the camera inside. Any chance of making Wally's shop or is this your last one? ThunderPeel2001
Don't we only have a colour test for Wally's? Might that mess it up?

Guy.brush
I thought about doing Wally. But I'm very busy right now. Maybe in a couple of weeks when I feel the need, the need to build

Maybe in a couple of weeks when I feel the need, the need to build Hah, I say if they are planning another special edition, they should farm out all of the backgrounds to you instead of the Singapore team. They should also supply you with every original background ever and then you can accidentally leak them to us.
Gabez
Just out of curiosity, would the same technique work on SOMI?
andygeers
Just out of curiosity, would the same technique work on SOMI? Presumably the issue is the lack of original high-quality source material for SOMI - they only started using full colour scanned backgrounds in MI2
Thrik
It'd definitely work with the special edition, though. It'd be really interesting to see how much better the SE could have looked with this technique, but 'tis up to Guy.brush!
Lagomorph01
Wow, this really takes the cake! It's even better than the first one, and that one already blew me away! I'm not kidding, you should apply for those jobs and show this to them. They'll hire you without hesitation. Oh yeah, don't let those "nice studio" guys fool you. They're money mad self absorbed soul-robbing people. They just want you for your looks!

Your old job would be there for you when you got back... It's quite an opportunity! And they say it doesn't knock twice...

It'd be really interesting to see how much better the SE could have looked with this technique, but 'tis up to Guy.brush! It would have certainly fixed any building perspective problems they may have had with a few of the backgrounds, governer's mansion especially. Lagomorph01
It looks pretty good. I just imagined Captain Kate, as she is based on her, looking more like Kate Capshaw. I always imagined her under those pixels.

Radogol
Capt. Kate Capsize... Not sure if that's what you want to hear, but it looks very much like the Special Edition art. Good job.
MartyMcFly
Looks like your work reached Dominic, Mr. Brush http://alternativemagazine.wordpress.com/2009/08/01/interiew-in-conversation-with-dominic-armato/ Can't wait for the Voodoo hut. It did reach him! And now we all get the chance to see what Mr Brush thought in return, as I have just interviewed him! http://alternativemagazine.wordpress.com/2009/08/04/interview-in-conversation-with-hannes-appell-loneclone-vfx-creator-of-the-monkey-island-ii-special-uber-edition-youtube-phenomenon/ Add the twitter to be kept updated, as Dom is going to return for some more interviews in the future. I may ask what he thinks of Hannes' interview next time! http://twitter.com/AltMagOnline
Guy.brush
yep I lifted my anonymity and feel a little naked but reliefed also. No more hiding in the shadows, pretending to be a sprite of a videogame character. But please continue calling me Guy.brush I love Internet nicknames. Guy.brush
Yeah? what does it explain?
BeleG
Well, it suits your skills, explains why you were eager to integrate your job with the Cry Engine, and explains why you don't want to get that plane to San Francisco! So that was the "nice" studio...
Guy.brush
hehe yeah. I started using Cryengine way before I started working there though. It's just a great engine. But don't take my word for it, i'm biased.
