Looking for some good TV shows

Hey guys, recently I've been looking for TV shows to watch that have recently started, so that I'm not spending several hundred dollars to get the season box sets.

So far I like Fringe. I only saw around 3-4 of the episodes from last season, but the new season is scheduled to start in September I believe. I'll definitely be watching that

But are there any others that you know of and personally like?

Also, I know there are people from all around the world, and a lot of you hail from the UK, or Europe in general. I do not receive BBC just to let you know. And I'm not really that big of an anime fan either.

Before Astro manages to mention it: I Claudius.

I know that you said you don't want to buy boxsets but the £20 ($30) is well worth it. Made in 1976, when the BBC was in its stride, it probably has the best cast ever assembled for television. Brian Blessed (being, naturally, loud), Patrick Stewart (being cool), Derek Jacobi (pronouncing the letter "O" in a way only he can), John Hurt (who dances), Frances White (with a scream able to cut through metal), and John Rhys-Davies (being... Welsh[?]) are all on top form but Siân Phillips steals the show (by being a manipulative dog of the female gender), to be honest.

(This BBCode requires its accompanying plugin to work properly.)

I loved the show Shark. Too bad they moved it all over the darn schedule and destroyed it. The writing was fantastic and Wood's acting was top notch.

Other than that, MASH, The Cosby Show, Friends, and Seinfeld are the only comedies that are must-see, even if they're older.

There is a drama Tv series in it's second season that I just got through watching a while back, and it's called "Breaking Bad" I hope they're able to do a third season for next year because the last two seasons were really fun to watch - a whole lot of drama comes with this show.

Another that I can't wait to see in Sep. on it's second season is "Sons of Anarchy". It's another drama Tv series that premiere's on Fx and the first season was pretty much badass. There's just something about biker gang families that get's my attention and I gotta watch. Of course this show has a whole lot of drama in it too, but I think it's much more entertaining than "Breaking Bad".

Heh, Heh, got love those biker babes though....yes sir, drama for your mama":D

Well, that's what I'll be watching anyway, besides the usual stuff that's on the History Ch., Hint or National Geo. Ch.

I recently discovered this during the summer, but Star Trek: TNG reruns plays on SciFi on Mondays, and it's become my new favorite show.

My parents and I always watch that every monday night... TNG is awesome. And so is VOY and DS9... (I'm a trekkie... :p ) My family is currently watching DS9 off of Netflix. We won't watch Voyager though, we've all seen almost every episode of Voyager...

And ST: Enterprise isn't that bad either. I don't understand why it's so unpopular among the star trek genres.

I recommend anything Stargate. Stargate SG1, Atlantis, and probably the next series coming out too: Stargate Universe.

Psych

Leverage

Royal Pains

Burn Notice - season just ended

Monk

[/approve]

I've seen and enjoy all of the mentioned above. They can all be comical, but all have serious moments.

One show that I really enjoyed was Kings, on NBC, that retold the story of King David from the Bible. I really enjoyed it, but it was canceled after only one season. Some funny moments, but mostly srsbsns.

Apart from that:

Yeah, I heard that Kings was good. Hell, if Ian McShane had anything to do with it, then it must have been good.

I'd recommend LOST, although it would necessary to watch every single previous episode to catch up, and even then you still wouldn't know WTF was going on, just like the rest of us who are hooked on it.

Great show, though.

As current shows go I don't watch many but I still like the staples of CSI and Law and Order. I've also become a fan of NCIS, and there is a spinoff coming this fall of that.

Royal Pains and Burn Notice are both good but I typically don't catch the episodes the first time they run but with USA there are reruns all the time.

I can't think of anything else off the top of my head...I would recommend getting the seasons of Battlestar Galactica if you haven't seen it. I know you said you didn't want to do DVDs but BSG would be worth it IMO.

I need to catch up on some of the shows.

Leverage and Psych are awesome.

I'd recommend Numb3rs.

I agree, the seasons BSG are worth getting on DVDs. I remember when the first season came out, I didn't watch it because I thought it was going to be a terrible remake of the old BSG. But I started watching the second season for awhile off and on, and got hooked from then on. But when they brought Lucy Lawless into it......oh man, that made it even better.

Oh yeah, it's definitely a good buy; to get on DVDs.

^Don't listen to him. Lost is the most horrible piece of crap i've ever watched besides the new episodes of Prison Break.

IMO of course

I'll agree that it's certainly not for everyone, but it's one of the few TV shows that I'll waste my time on nowadays.

This has recently finished airing in the UK on Bravo. It's not a show that I would normally like, but I gave it a chance and really enjoyed it. Definitely not for youngsters, though.

After reading about it the other day, I really hope that Kings is aired in the UK at some point - it looks like it's pretty good.

I can definitely agree with that, Q.

Without Ian McShane's Al Swearengen, I don't think Deadwood would have been half as good.

I recently have been watching a bit on Hulu. I found an excellent show called Day Break that lasted one season. Don't worry though; it actually wraps the story up and is an excellent show (it has a woman from the show Journeyman in it also, Moon Bloodgood). Plot is that a cop relives a day over and over trying to figure out why he's being framed for murder.

I watched a few episodes of ABC's Castle mainly because I had to see Nathan Fillion. Well, I like Fillion and the show is okay, but not great. Pretty formulaic. Interesting note is that a PI in one of Castle's episodes is a big bad from Day Break.

There's a short 20 minute office comedy called Better Off Ted which I enjoyed a lot. The characters are all pretty good and the show is short enough you don't have to sit down for an hour to watch it. It even seems to be improving as more episodes come out. Sweet.

Midtown Cowboys is an awesome comedy show that's apparently very popular in Europe. The idea is that some country boys try to make their ranch...in a Manhattan apartment. There's some pretty insane slapstick that goes on with this show. Definitely recommended!

An excellent Canadian show called The Listener about a paramedic who is telepathic. Seems cheesy but it actually works pretty well. Canceled after one season for the US, but season 2 is coming out in Canada and I'm happy about that.

I watched a few episodes of Defying Gravity because Ron Livingston was in it, but to be honest it isn't that interesting. I probably won't watch any more.

I've been watching a lot of House lately, so I definitely recommend that one. Scrubs, of course, are a must for any comedy fan. Other than that Battlestar Galactica and Star Trek: Voyager. For the fall and onward - Heroes and Dexter.
