Tobias Reiper
Besides, if one needs to 'worship' a male body, it should be Orlando Bloom or one of my other cabana boys! Yeah, totally, I can see how the Christian's worship Jesus and God, just look at the paintings. SUCH ABS!
True_Avery
That argument _might_ fly if the author hadn't clearly listed these books as fiction when publishing them. Therefore, 'cullenism' is entirely false, not to mention beyond stupid. Can you 100% prove that Edward is not alive? What if it was labeled fiction just to throw people off? What if the voices in her head were really those two trying to convey their story? What if God spoke to her and placed this story into her head and she just isn't smart enough to realize she is the next prophet? What if, in our jaded time, only a few people can truly see the coming of truth and our scientific minds just cannot accept this fact? Their belief system is as valid as anyone's belief system, simply due to the argumentum ad ignorantiam fallacy. Better known as the Invisible Pink Unicorn. If it's not fiction, her tinfoil hat is tuned to the NCC-1702-Pink Unicorn. Religions have to have some basis in history and fact (see wiki def'n of religion). Since cullenism is based on a fictional work, it by definition can't be religion. You can call it a cult, perhaps, but that's it (which also is what the Jedi cult is, regardless of its legal status in the UK). The logic error here is calling it a religion in the first place. How did they even come to the conclusion that the cullens are real? Did they get it from reading too deeply between the lines, or did someone suggest something and they went with it? And where do they get the idea to compare twilight (a book about an hundred something pedophile and a 17 year old necro) with the Bible (the book)? SpaceAlex
I think a part of me just died. This... this is *not* healthy. These people are so obsessed with Twilight and its characters that they actually convinced themselves they will one day be together. This "religion" spawned from an unhealthy and obsessed mind. Just reading through those books and watching the films over and over again was no longer enough. They needed something more to keep them afloat. And so they foolishly convinced themselves this is all real, and that, one day, when they prove their worth or something, they will be reunited with these characters. They need some time (possibly an eternity ) away from these books and films. Send them all off to a place (like Himalayas or something ) where they can forget about foolish things like this Twilight, and experience the true wonders of life. What? It worked on all the drug addicts I know, so far. More so than any "professional" therapy. What doesn't kill you makes you stronger (and less foolish). True_Avery
QFT. How did they even come to the conclusion that the cullens are real? Did they get it from reading too deeply between the lines, or did someone suggest something and they went with it? Tends to be how things like this get started. Some people just get so obsessed with something that they can't help but feel this connection extends beyond the book. Being that the Cullens and Twilight are essentially the most popular thing since bread, it isn't surprising there are some fans who go the extra step to assuming it has to be real. On the other hand, one of the links is to a site that explains that the Cullens are not real, but there can be spiritual guidance taken away from the books. So, not all of them believe that the Cullens are real, but most of them believe the books are part of a balanced breakfast. As it goes with most religions/cults, the extreme examples of the bunch are the ones thrown out into the light first. And where do they get the idea to compare twilight (a book about an hundred something pedophile and a 17 year old necro) with the Bible (the book)? I don't believe they exactly compare them, as much as say that both of them should be read. They do not so much say that Twilight is the Bible as much as it is a good companion to have alongside the Bible. And, well, why not. If you get some kind of spiritual peace of some kind from Twilight, then why not find like-minded people and talk about it. Some people get their peace from the Bible, some form Hubbard, and some from Twilight and the Bible at once. It makes them happy, so why the hell not. Doesn't make it any more bizarre of a thing to follow since, as Jae said... it is a book that is pretty clearly placed in the fiction section of the library and the content of the book doesn't exactly lend itself to be quoted in the same way as the Bible. But, as far as where they got the idea... same way Christianity and every other religion/cult got the idea. Bunch of people found something they liked that made them happy and sort of build an institution around it. I'm not entirely sure why the bible is the book out of the thousands of religious text, but that is as much your own insentive as is the Twilight fans to like Twilight this much.
