I'm gathering information on your MMO fleet/guild/household/kinship/etc. experiences in game, mainly for a future episode of LucasCast. While the poll choices are by definition somewhat limiting, please feel free to share your experiences. I'd like to know what a guild/fleet (or whatever it's called in your MMO of choice) does or does not do for you.

If you're in a guild, please share what it does for you, and how it helps your gaming experience. Are you happy with your guild? Searching for another one? Like the activity of a group that shares your interests, etc.? You're in one because the game forces you to be in one, but you really don't want to be there?

If you're not in a guild, share with us why you're not. Did you not want to be in one, or you got kicked, or you just never found the one for you?

You are welcome to post links to your guilds or fleets here (hint--if your guild or fleet is awesome, here's your chance to let the world know!). If you have substantially negative things to say about a guild, however, please consider if it's worth pointing them out by name. Use discretion in that case. I don't want to see comments that flame or bash other groups, since they don't have the opportunity to defend themselves. If you elect not to use discretion, I will elect to use discretion for you. :)

Share stories of your best/worst guild experiences, too. Do you have funny stories to share? Situations where the guild or fleet really helped you out in a unique way? A situation where the guild did something really bone-headed that made you want to facepalm? Something where the guild made an event extra special?

Thanks for your help and your comments!

I voted "No, I quit" simply because I quit the game.

When I played EVE Online, I was in the Penny Arcade corporation Merch Industrial, which was a part of the GoonSwarm Alliance. It was pretty awesome. A bunch of like-minded individuals hanging out and shooting space rocks and other ships.

For the short period I played Star Trek Online, I was in the Penny Arcade fleet. Didn't play long enough to really do much. I just got bored of STO.

That's all I can remember. I've played many more MMOs, but can't remember if I played in a guild or not.

Edit: Oh yeah, Guild Wars. It wasn't really a real guild, but just a bunch of forum members hanging out.

I am currently active in Star Trek Online and a member of the Starfleet Defenders. It's a little bit of a switch for me as I gamed for almost 8 years with the same group of guys and gals as part of GSX Elite/The Reformation in Earth and Beyond, EVE, and WoW.

I miss the old group, but most of the guys I was tight with have gone various separate ways, and getting to know the new group of folks is interesting.

It was hard to choose between I dont play MMO, and I prefer to play solo as both of these currently apply.

I played guild wars a few years ago and got bored. I tried FFXI and got bored/possibly lost.. :p

I'm about to try Trek online and will likely try TOR. I play irregular hours and times so prefer to go solo in such endeavours.

I still haven't found an MMO that has got me hooked. Something in the AC or ME 'universe' could, then again, so could TOR... Still, I like the closure and sense of finality that SP games give you - as much as you would like it to keep going on and on... it doesnt...

all good things.... :p:violin:

I am in a guild in WoW and Champions Online(supergroup). I don't play WoW much(read: I just restarted this week), and my guild's improved, but there are some leadership people I don't like and some rules they haven't explained to me. So I dunno, it's okay, I can't raid much 'cause of work, but oh well.

"Yes, but I'm not active/don't play the game much anymore"

DDO - Loreseekers :D

Back problems prevents alot of computer time for myself other than work-related, so I'm not as active as I'd like. However the guild is a pretty tight-knit and close "family".

Not sure what I'm going to do about ToR.. but I'll do my damndest to have a presence.. hehe

When I played Guild Wars I was usually in a guild but usually it was just whatever guild my friend was in.

On Retail WoW I was in one guild that seemed pretty nice but I didnt play long enough to get to know them

On Private server WoW I had a guild with like 10 of my real life buddies so naturally it was pretty close

In LOTRO I was in a guild that I got pretty close to, we all talked about life and such and helped each other out a lot, it wasn't huge, 20-30 people but it was more close knit than the first one I joined that was like 100 or so people, that just seemed excessive, hopefully when I go back to LOTRO this summer they'll remember me.

No. Not only I;m not interested but I'm a very irregular gamer who can spend 1 month without starting a game and thus I have no time to loose on MMOs. I prefer SP freedom (that does not require a permanent internet connection like Ubisoft's most recent title - because I'm also a privacy freak who knows how that info can be *or could be* used - ). Anyway, most MMOs are just an XP race.

I went with "Yes, but the guild/fleet/kinship is inactive."

Eggs and Onions LIVES, Jae! It LIVES! Even if it's only me. heh

I was in a Guild in DDO when I played it. Cool group of people, but my gaming times were incompatible. I got bored with the game and quit.

Nowadays, being on call pretty much all the time, I don't have the time for large group missions. I prefer to solo anyway, but enjoy the social aspects of a Guild/Kin.

I'll definitely be in LF's TOR group when it comes out, and once I have to time I'm planing on getting STO as well. I'll be around to help out and socialize, but I doubt I'll be able to do any large scale raids and such.

In DDO I am in a small guild, about 5 players who broke off from another guild when the leader left and the replacement leader went MIA and its friendliness went away, add to it the inviting of hopeless n00bs that were not very good.

If you are in a raid and a guildy (officer) makes you want to face-palm because they do something repeatedly monumentally dumb, its time to go somewhere else.

The good thing about DDO is if you build a rep of being a competent player your guild doesn't matter as people on in your time get to know each other so it is like an extended guild, add private channels that you can all belong to it increases things beyond the guild barriers or guild alliances.

DDO - Loreseekers :D

Bah! Loreseekers... That guilds leader Hordo is a Gornn loving pansy who dies alot! :p

At least thats what I heard! :D

Yes I have been hugged by Gornn, but it wasn't that good! :xp:

All true.

He has an uncanny knack for dying in the most "un-die-able" places. He truly has a talent for it. :raise:

Surprisingly enough, he does much better on nekkid TS runs. So we pretty much decided he's not allowed to take gear on any quest we're on. He tends to stay alive longer.. hehehe

 Khyber Rulez! Because you can't spell Khyber without d.r.a.m.a. ;) hehehe

I am subscribed to Pirates of the Caribbean Online and I am First Mate in a Crew/Guild called The Undead Militia with about 64 members now! There are two types of guilds in the game, Pirate Guilds, and East India Company Guilds, both available to players. We like doing RP events and fighting enemy guilds. Our flagship is my ship, The Morning Star, a 32 gunned Pirate Frigate. Our Captain is Jim Squideagle who is level 34 notoriety. Our base of operations is The King's Arm tavern on the island of Tortuga. We like invading the Redcoat fort at Kingshead as well.

My brother and I used to play Star Wars: Galaxies, back before the NGE shot everything enjoyable about the game to hell. During this time, we dreamed of creating and running a galaxy-spanning megacorporation called "Thano Enterprises". Our plan was to monopolize everything we could get our hands on. To this end, we hoped to get as many armorsmiths, weaponsmiths, and every other type of crafter into our pockets as we could, hoard as many goods as we possibly could and stash them in secret warehouses, have mercenary services for both factions of the war, and ultimately gain so much control over as much of everything as we could that we'd be able to affect the course of the economy on our server as we see fit, make sure of what guilds get what items, and so on. My brother even talked of blacklisting artisans who refused to work for the company (so that they'd either not be able to get good work or have to join us), and also planned on implementing a stock system with the company where members would be given "shares" which they could trade and sell (the main reason for this was to net enough profit for the company to get it off the ground while the operation was still small, otherwise it'd be too small to get anywhere). It was the coolest SWG-related idea I've ever heard of, far more interesting than the rebel and Imperial guilds, all of which were ostensibly super-duper-ultra-special-forces groups who secretly reported directly to the Emperor himself and had several super-secret Force-users assigned to it, or some other sort of uninspired drivel like that.

Sadly for the future of the company, my brother and I realized that we were going to have lives at some point in the future, so Thano Planetary Enterprises was never founded. Sometimes a brilliant idea must be sacrificed, but the greater good must always be served, and a price must be payed for it.
