jon_hill987
I can't believe the kid could pull away without stalling, clutch control takes time to learn.

The officer said that to drive, the boy slid down and push the car's accelerator, and then stood up to look out and see where he was going. Just daft. Automatic, flip and hit accelerate. *shrugs* These things happen, not that uncommon.

Oh yes, I forgot that everyone in America has Automatic, I hate it, if your breaks fail in a manual you can slow down with the gears, what do you do in an auto? and also manual transmition stops 4 yr olds stealing your car... Slam the tranny into neutral (or better yet, reverse! ) and yank on the parking/ emergency brake. I have VW's Tiptronic transmission in my car anyway, so I can manually shift, but just without the clutch. I often use it to downshift to slow down, or get the revs up to pass. It's a good thing. Most of my driving is city driving, and I hate using a stick in heavy traffic. In other situations I prefer the stick. The Tiptronic is a nice compromise. acdcfanbill
die hard, manual for life! if my kid ever did this, i'd kick his ass. but thats not politically correct anymore...
Mike Windu
Automatic for me. Honestly, I wouldn't drive stick unless I had like a Viper or something.
lukeiamyourdad
Manual is fun...if you don't live in the city and have to enjoy the traffic. Seriously though, I wouldn't drive manual now that I use automatic. Much less trouble.
wassup
Save manual for the racetrack, automatic is so much less stressful in city traffic. On another note, I'm wouldn't be surprised if some politician starting ranting on video games for contributing to this incident.

ET Warrior
That kid rocks. But to go against the grain of most here, manual is the way to go. Even in heavy traffic, it's not like it is difficult :\

Even in heavy traffic, it's not like it is difficult :\ Maybe not for you, but my girlfirend doesn't really pay attention to everything when she drives. A few months ago we were on the freeway and I had just got done playing a baseball game with some buddies and I fell asleep in the passenger seat. (she's dirving my car) And she pulls onto the freeway, watching the traffic and trying to merge on. She doesn't shift into 3rd and keeps going down the road, not noticing, and then decides to pass someone. Oh she passes them, but then blows out my engine So, no not everyone can manage all of that at once. Boy was that fun waking up with a **** storm of cars going by my window at 70+
ET Warrior
Better than waking up in a car that's going sideways down the interstate directly at another car I guess it's a matter of what you're used to. I've driven a manual for over 4 years now so shifting is second nature. I feel less comfortable in an automatic.
Redwing
OMG. XD That is HILARIOUS. I almost think it's a pity he didn't get farther would've been great to hear about the reaction at the video game store! As for the secondary topic, I'm just learning how to drive (late, I know, but hey, didn't get an opportunity earlier), and there is no way I want to deal with manual.
