LucasArts registers Star Wars The Old Republic as a trademark

Bah, so what if LucasArts wants to do an MMORPG. You whiners should be praising what LucasArts has already achieved rather than directing their video game policies. :p

I'd like to see what comes out of this, or whether they are just getting it registered to play it safe in the future.

I'll whine as long as I want. I don't care about what LA achieved in the past, it's the now that counts. Understandably, they would do what produces the most money, but this isn't good for the KotOR franchise. I'm still worried by the KotOR MMO concept, and sad that, perhaps, we may never see a real successor to KotOR2. I guess the only thing we can do is accept it, but LA may well have lost me (and others) as a customer. Not that I would've had much chance anyway, since it seems they refuse to develop for the PC any longer.

Damn you, Char Ell, you ruined my diabolical plan to be the only person who had news posted on the first page. Now I have to start all over again! :xp:

Hah! In before Pavlos takes over the entire front page of swk.com! :dev14:

>_>

<_<

:o

Perhaps I overemphasized the Old Republic one. The trademarks for Star Wars Legacy and Star Wars Sagas are listed with the same descriptions as Star Wars The Old Republic. LucasArts is by no means going full open kimono on this.

Of course if one uses the prevalency of rumors as the *cough* highly scientific *cough* measure to see which one of the three are most likely then I do think one has to give the nod to Star Wars The Old Republic. ;)

And just why is it so imperative to see a "real successor" to KotOR2? I thought it was a brilliant game in itself that does not necessarily require a sequel. Some reworking, maybe, but not a sequel. The same goes with the original, which was a great game. So if LA decides to make an MMO, you can either go with it and like it or ignore it. It's not going to butcher the franchise, by any sense, in fact, given the recent popularity of MMOs, it might be LA's saving grace.

And I mean no offence, but I don't think LA really cares about losing you or a handful of other customers. :)

While it could indeed give LA a needed boost, given the animosity i've seen here regarding an MMO, especially if it were a KOTOR based one. And it's not surprising, we are in a KOTOR forum, after all.

after Kotor 2: Jeid order is almost extinct. Every fanboy running around playing a Jedi would RUIN the feel and Old Republic era. And you know it: Galaxies showed us how NOT to do this. They had millions of Jedi running around in a time where Luke was supposed to be the only one.

Galaxies is still going, and, have you seen any EU lately? there's more Jedi running around during the Dark times and OT the there were during the PT now it's ridicules lol.

Topic: To be honest I'm gonna play it anyway, I always do, would I prefer an sprpg? hell yes! but I'll play an mmo all day

^^^Agreed, also, the Old Republic era is 25,000bby to 1000bby (1000bby-19bby being the "Rise of the Empire era" ;))there's room to maneuver around our beloved duo

and hopefully the planets will actually look how they are suppose to look.

Unlike SOE's purpleish, Kath Hound-less, Dantooine, and their scewed version of Kashyyyk, Tatooine, and many other planets.

Question is. What would the class system look like?

I liked Jar Jar :(

Basically, turning KotOR into an MMO doesn't just suck - it blows. They make ridiculous amounts of money sure, but the actual gaming quality is total ****! The sole exception to the rule is MxO (Matrix Online), which has been revamped a ton since its initial release and is now vastly underrated.

Watching 12 year olds, who have all named themselves Revan, fighting over who is the REAL one comes to mind.

Revan426 says: I am da ReVAn, noob!

Revan987 says: stfu noob, IM REVAN! stupid haXoR.

Revan234 says: No, I'm revna, my mum says so. U is all just poo.

Was that what you were picturing, Schmorgy?

Alrighty...surprised no one has really posted info on this yet as it looks like some rumors were started last month. Anyway, supposedly Lucasarts laid off about 100 people and they spilled the beans. The only site I can get to is below (at work and all gaming sites blocked for the most part :( ). Looks like, from this site, KOTOR 3 is an MMO. Please, Please, someone google and see what else you can find....link below.

Well we don't know if those rumors are true, though I would tend to believe they are as another leaked title was the Clone Wars game which turned out to be announced shortly after.

As for the problem with everyone running around with the name Revan, a simple fix for that is what Galaxies does. Players aren't allowed to use names that are of important characters, so no Skywalkers, no Vaders and probably no Revans.
