I have a 360. Better online play, even though you have to pay for it; plus Halo 3 was a big selling point for me personally. I love watching the Sony fanboys cry over FF13. Who really cares about console "wars" anyway?

the reason the 360 is cheaper is because it's still being outsold by the ps2 ffs.

it had a decent launch and shifted a few units - but lets remember, it was the only new boy in town at that point. even though it launched a year earlier, both the wii and the ps3 have sold more units overall, and are now outselling the the 360 on a month to basis by quite a substantial margin.

while i doubt it will suffer a dreamcast-esque sudden failure, there's little doubt the 360 has the shortest shelf-life of the next gen consoles atm.

Huh? According to VGChartz.com, the 360 has outsold the PS3 by over 5 million units...

Where are you getting your info from?

Bah. PS3 doesn't have anything going for it except maybe Final Fantasy. Metal Gear Solid IV is, from everything I've heard, not so much a game as it is a movie with interactive segments.

Just to let you know, Final Fantasy XIII is being scheduled for 360. Go figure, hm?

Fixed ;)

QFE.

Which is great for everyone but Sony. Wait, this looks bad for PS3 owners too, since undoubtely the game will be delayed if the release occurs at the same time on both consoles.

Square's strategy is a bit odd, since Versus XIII is still exclusive to Sony Blackbox. And I think I can add them to my wall of the most unloyal companies ever, along with the eternal Capcom.

With this, there's officially five reasons that make me desperately look to get my hands on a PS3:

-MGS4

-God of War 3

-Versus XIII

-Infamous

-MGS4 (again, of course - online edition, duh)

???-Possible FFVII remake???

Oh yeah, because of course you should just go out and buy the one that's more successful, as opposed to one you might actually want. Be a sheep instead instead of an individual.

Xbox has sold 19 million units. As of march, the PS3 sold 12.81 million units. And the Wii, as of march, sold 24 million units. The PS3 is in third place - and maybe the reason it might be selling more each month is because everyone who wants a 360 has got one now?

And, for reference, the Dreamcast sold only 10 million units, so it's hardly of that proportion.

..I didn't mean to awaken the Techno-phile, go back to your "wank Den" or whatever you say :p

one persons wankden is anothers 'sanctum of the exalted'. If it was in jest, you could probably think of funnier topics :D

"Hey did you hear about how sony kidnapped bluray! whats up wit dat!" :p

Not true. Any windows PC that can run Windows Media Player 11 can be used as a media extender, and there is a linux ap that allows music to be streamed (I assume video streaming is in the works).

oh, thank you Lord, for delivering me the ignorant to school. You see ET whilst you have been away oiling your pecs, Astro has been off training, learning, doing one handed push-ups :) Now, my knowledge is complete.... I've built over 120 home theater pcs/media servers, and counting. Windows, Myth(Linux based). Theyre lots of fun to do, and the dudes who want them are CRAZY rich. Not grungy students in ripped trackpants, which was who I was dealing with when I was doing gaming rigs :p

It is easy to confuse a Media Center extender with a networked media player.

A Media Center Extender(MCX) is exactly that...it is a specialised device that is configured to stream content from a media center pc. The key feature in all of this is >> streaming TV, recorded and LIVE.

There isnt any other device nor application the XB will interface with to do liveTV. To stream or play pics, vids etc, you can use your pc to network to the XB. You can even bypass the pc and 360 altogether if you are just into vids/pics/music.. >>Standalone network Media players are a dime a dozen. You can buy flash based ones for $30 nowdays.....

However, MCXs, living within the vista media center interface, like the x360 or some devices by HP, Linksys etc, are the only ones capable of doing the Live TV/PVR functionality.

My comparison to the PS3 is that, whilst also currently able to play media from external windows or linux pc based sources, will be soon getting its own tuner for LIVE TV > Making the the PS3 a standalone PVR. ie, it does not need a pc running vista media center to do live TV, like the XB does.

Now for the type of crowd here, gaming is the focus, so this doesnt mean that much... luckily, its the homethater fans that have the dollars to make it viable for MS and sony. If *games* were all these devices were going to be for, theyd be priced and marketed like that dinky little Wii :p

So >> to veer on topic. If you fancy PVR functionality and dont have a vista based hoem theater PC, a PS3 is a remarkably future proof device. It basically means you are buying a Gaming Console, BluRay player and TiVo all in one.

again, if all you want to do is play games, the 360 is a more cost effective choice

For those that are curious of what it all looks like >>

HERE is a vid of some dudes X360 MCX setup. Vid is hoem made, but you can see what its capable.(its indentical to the standard vista media center interface and options)

is a PlayTv info vid, it includes a description of the PSP streaming option.

Many of the Xbox 360 games I've wanted to get have eventually gotten a PC port (TFU of course is a notable exception). If this wasn't the case, I'd probably have gotten a 360 a long time ago. As it stands now, I can't decide which system has more games I want. But there's enough PC games that I haven't played yet to keep me occupied, hehe.

  • 2 weeks later...

Am I late to the party?

If you ask me, I would say a Xbox 360, because its a whole lot more cheaper, and it has a great selection, of games, and PS3 only has one great game, and PS3 seems to focus a lot on Graphics.

Oh and The Force Unleashed is coming out on 360 as well. ;)

I chose the 360 because I am a Microsoft fanboy? LOL but Halo is amazing, the 360 is great in terms of graphics, and with the partnership with Netflix and the stealing of Final Fantasy, (because I love my RPG's) and the release of Fable II coming soon YAY!!!

No, I mean the Xbox 360 has lots of great, games and there exclusive as well, and the PlayStation 3 only has like 5 exclusive games for it.

PlayStation 3: Metal Gear Solid 4, Resistance, RAC Future Prefect, Uncharted Drakes Fortune, and that's really about it.

While 360 has a great stock of Games and the Online mode is awesome, and yeah, so out of both of them, I pick 360.

PC and Wii. If you have those two, all of your bases are covered. Since there's this seemingly new trend of porting PS3/Xbox 360 games to the PC, I won't miss out on anything good. Not to mention, I love my Wii, so I've got myself covered on my Mario/Zelda/Metroid fix, so that's good for me. :)

QFE. It's not special, it's just the overblown, overhyped sequel to an equally overblown, overhyped series of so-so generic shooters.

But, my vote is still for the Xbox 360. Anyone who judges the 360 simply because of Halo is just stupid (not that i'm saying you did, Schmorgy :)).

I don't care if the PS3 has a blu-ray player - although that would be about the only reason i'd buy one, seeing as the games are, well, crap.

Halo 1 is the only good halo I've played, I played halo 3 and halo 2 and both we're complete letdowns, Whats the point in playing multi player if there's no unlimited grenade option and no Hang em' High? No fun at all.

X360 is better, IMO because I really don't want a blu-ray player ( Why buy a 600 High Def DVD player with more memory for special features I don't watch. For, get this 3 TIMES THE PRICE of a normal DVD player and half the DVD availability at least HD-DVD came with a regular DVD side, that made sense), and because theres a much better game selection.

I'm not a fan of MGS, it sounds like one of the most over hyped series's I've ever heard of. I've never played MGS other than the one that came out for original xbox. (I didn't even kill anyone, I watched a 10 minute intro on how to do things that made very little sense. First 10 seconds of game play were horror, then next we're relief that I didn't pay for the game.)

Anyway, if you want a good game to get first, BATTLEFIELD BAD COMPANY if you have XBL that is, its worth every penny, I feel bad paying 60$ for it, its just to amazing.

To start, I'm probably late and you probably already made a purchase, but I'm bored and I'd thought I'd share my opinion. I voted for PS3, simply because I have one and I'm satisfied with my purchase, as well as some other reasons.

First of all I have no problem with the X360, it's a great game console and I'm sure anybody that likes console gaming would be satisfied with either console that they decide to purchase. The reasons I don't have a X360 are simple and make sense to me, but may not make sense to others. For one, most games that come to the X360 usually find there way to PC and I happen to have a capable gaming PC. Secondly, I didn't feel like paying for an online gaming subscription. Yes the Xbox Live service is great and is superior to the PSN service that you get for free from the PS3. However, I don't feel like paying extra to play online when I already have to pay $60 to buy the game itself. Those were the two secondary reasons I decided on a PS3 over the X360.

Now as long as you are choosing a system with your primary concern being using it for games. Your deciding factor should be console exclusives. I'll admit I'm biased in this area towards Sony, and when looking at possible exclusives when I made my decision I leaned towards Sony, I'm more of a RPG fan than FPS shooters. So at the time I was weighing Halo vs. FFXIII and it was an easy decision for me. However, right now the X360 seems to have more RPGs now and coming up, with the PS3 having more action/shooters coming, like Killzone 2, Resistance 2, SOCOM, M.A.G. as well as FFXIII becoming multi-platform. So, in short, I would advise looking at the upcoming and existing exclusives to make your decision, I wont rattle off a list here as you can find that elsewhere.

Now just for a couple more things to think about, it is fairly hard to keep up with the various console SKU's so when looking at price, take into account what each package comes with. I'm not too sure about the X360, but I believe they announced a price cut at E3. Sony announced that their 40GB unit will be "upgraded" to 80GB, basically, the 40GB will remain exactly as it is now, except that it will upgrade its' harddrive to 80GB, so keep that in mind.

Well, first of all Blu-ray players can still play regular DVD's the PS3 included, so I don't see the big problem here. As far as HD-DVD goes, what happens to all those people that had to buy an attachment to play HD-DVD's on their X360's? As a side note, from personal experience it is my opinion that the PS3 upscales regular DVD's quite nicely.

If you haven't ever played MGS I don't see how you can justify passing judgment on the game. The MGS is sort of hit and miss with gamers, usually more hit than miss, but different people see the game different ways, some people praise the series' complex story some called it convoluted and confusing, some call the gameplay boring and slow-paced, some call it genius. My point is that you shouldn't pass judgment on a game series which you haven't played.
