tk102 Posted October 13, 2008 Posted October 13, 2008 What genres of books do you enjoy? (poll courtesy of Litovsky)
Ctrl Alt Del Posted October 13, 2008 Posted October 13, 2008 Almost everyhing, with the notabe exceptions of biographies and philosophy (although I have read some, it's a tiring reading). And that assuming that by "romance" you meant any fictional work.
Lynk Former Posted October 13, 2008 Posted October 13, 2008 I haven't read a book since I was in high school ...wish there was an option for that.
mimartin Posted October 13, 2008 Posted October 13, 2008 I would have thought my favorite book genre was Action/Adventure, but after counting my books they are largely History. Although I’m pretty sure some of those are actually fiction.
Jeff Posted October 13, 2008 Posted October 13, 2008 I would say fantasy is my favorite genre, it is what most of my favorite book series' fall under. LotR/Silmarillion/The Hobbit and Harry Potter are my favorite book series. I haven't read anything new recently though.
Astor Posted October 13, 2008 Posted October 13, 2008 Science Fiction (That is what Star Wars is, after all ) and Historical Fiction are my two main favorites - but I do like to read a good biography, or occasionally a True Crime book (I have a somewhat unhealthy addiction to organised crime).
Great Scott! Posted October 13, 2008 Posted October 13, 2008 I checked everything. It really depends on the author and the book.
Sabretooth Posted October 13, 2008 Posted October 13, 2008 I like anything that is a good read. You left out the erotic literature option, btw.
Rachel_Ewok Posted October 13, 2008 Posted October 13, 2008 I like fantasy, sci-fi, and mysteries best. I grew up reading things like The Hobbit and Nancy Drew mysteries. Now I still read The Hobbit, Nancy Drew mysteries (and a crapload of other mystery novels) but I've added Star Wars books into the mix, as well as some sci-fi classics like Strager in a Strange Land.
tk102 Posted October 13, 2008 Author Posted October 13, 2008 Fantasy, Philosophy, Biography, and Other Non-Fiction for me. I like the Science section of the bookstore / library.
Bokken Posted October 13, 2008 Posted October 13, 2008 No historical fiction? Bernard Cornwell's SHARPE series. They're very good, and there's around 20 of them. By the time you get to the end of the series you forget what the beginning is.
LordOfTheFish Posted October 13, 2008 Posted October 13, 2008 An excellent question! I really enjoy science fiction, but I also enjoy fantasy, and fiction. Mystery will some times strike my interest. Sherlock Holmes certainly did... Depending upon what it's about, History books sometimes interest me.
SW01 Posted October 13, 2008 Posted October 13, 2008 History is my current favourite for recreation - I'm currently reading The Alexiad of Anna Komnena. I've been into this genre for a few years, mainly Roman history leading into Byzantine history - great stuff!
GeneralPloKoon Posted October 13, 2008 Posted October 13, 2008 Sci-fi is the only kind of books I read!
Rev7 Posted October 13, 2008 Posted October 13, 2008 Action /Adventure History Science Fiction Non fiction
ChAiNz.2da Posted October 13, 2008 Posted October 13, 2008 Mystery Action / Adventure Science Fiction Fantasy Had debated on History & Biography, but to be honest I haven't read a decent one in quite some time. It gets "honorable mention" for now, but no vote. (suggestions welcomed)
tk102 Posted October 13, 2008 Author Posted October 13, 2008 Science Fiction (That is what Star Wars is, after all )I'd say Star Wars is more Fantasy than Sci Fi.
Jeff Posted October 13, 2008 Posted October 13, 2008 I'd say Star Wars is more Fantasy than Sci Fi.Yeah, pretty sure this is correct. I haven't read very many Star Wars books so that is why I did not mention them, but I guess I have read a few good ones. First book in the LotF series, and Labyrinth of Evil I remember being pretty good, but some of the others I just couldn't get into.
Astor Posted October 14, 2008 Posted October 14, 2008 I'd say Star Wars is more Fantasy than Sci Fi. Yeah, that probably is more accurate... but i've still got plenty of Sci-Fi *looks at shelf of Star Trek books*
Lynk Former Posted October 14, 2008 Posted October 14, 2008 When I did read books I did read quite a lot of Star Wars books... but now... Hmm, I wonder how much I could get for all of them if I sell em...
LordOfTheFish Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 Science Fiction (That is what Star Wars is, after all ) I'd say Star Wars is more Fantasy than Sci Fi. I agree with Astor on this one.
Sabretooth Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 I agree with Astor on this one. There was a massive debate thread regarding this in Ahto. Take a look around and you'll find it. But IIRC, GL himself had commented that Star Wars is fantasy and not science fiction. I'll have to dig that up, though.
