Our new family member!

Meet Sparky!

We adopted him from the humane society a few days ago. He's about 5 years old. His previous owner had to give him up for adoption because he had lost his job and couldn't afford to take care of him anymore. I'm proud of his previous owner for doing the right thing and not just abandoning him on the street.

We saw Sparky when we went for a visit last weekend, and put him down as one of our choices for a new family member, along with 2 puppies. When we had the chance to interact with the dogs, he was just the sweetest thing, very loving and well-mannered. As you can see, he absolutely loves playing with balls. One of his favorite things is to catch them in mid-air. He knows some basic commands and is already housebroken, which is a godsend.

He's a very solidly built boy. He weighs in at 63 pounds, and we think he's part black labrador retriever and part pit bull--his head is pretty massive, and his jaws are very strong. He's collapsed a couple regular sized tennis balls already. The first thing he did when we got in the car to go home was jump in the front seat and lick my ear when I sat down in the driver's seat. Sparky and our cat, Joey, are adjusting pretty well to each other, though Joey still feels the need to make sure the dog knows his place in regards to the cat, which is, of course, inferior to Joey. We're making sure to give both of them lots of love.

As the President of the Official Joey Appreciation Society, I would like to forward this message from Joey :thmbup1:

At the risk of being labled a stooge of the Skype Posse, maybe you shouldn't be calling people plebs with the intention of stirring up exactly this kind of response.

He use to jump quiet high, now its a little less, but he going to be 7 now.

Please invest in an invisible fence this time around. ;)
Point Man's building a fence for the rest of the yard--our neighbors have a good portion of it fenced off already for their dogs. Sparky doesn't run like Lucas did, thank God.

@Astro--Heh--hope your cats are putting Pico in his place. I did get some treats for Joey as well as Sparky. :D

What a cute dog! Are those your kids in the pictures, Jae?

Yep, those are my kiddos, who like the screen names totofett22 (my son) and twoko29 (my daughter).

Joey and Sparky were sniffing each other nose-to-nose yesterday, so I think they've decided the other one is OK.
