Sorry I'm late! Y'all are some crazy bastards. Some beautiful, crazy bastards. Love this thread. Which I have spent half of today reading. (Well... skimming. And sometimes reading. There's a lot.) Mostly jumping in at the moment to send apologies for not responding to the request for VO for the stump joke. I'm usually pretty good about answering people, so the most likely scenario is that I either first got it on the run and totally forgot to respond, or it fell into the gap when Facebook and Instagram started filtering craptons of incoming messages into a "message requests" folder that I had no idea existed. When I finally found those, some of them were literally years old. Either way, I suck. Copious apologies. Though performing Guybrush in an unofficial capacity probably isn't something I could have done anyway, so no harm done. Except for the non-responsive rudeness 😕 Anyway, do carry on. Please keep being awesome. There are, like, twenty threads in here I'd love to revive but I don't want to sow chaos. (Not yet.) 😄 -Dom11 points

It's always weird and surreal right up until I start reading the first few lines, and then it suddenly feels like the most natural thing in the world 🙂 (Hopefully it sounds that way, too. Fingers crossed.)8 points

Yyyyyyyyeah, I did consider the possibility that jumping in may be more of an unintentional taunt than anything. And I'm sure the intentional (but meant in good humor!) taunt on Twitter this week probably didn't help. But yeah, even if I weren't the type to play it straight by nature, a Disney NDA definitely has a way of, um... solidifying my commitment to secrecy 😄6 points

Maybe we should ask every few months and as soon as Dom declines, we can be dead certain a new Monkey Island is secretly in the works.4 points
-
To be fair, that's pretty much what I assumed. I guess I should have asked last year, when there was no sign of ever being another MI game. 😉3 points

You are a huge reason that Curse is the legendary game it is. You took those lines to the next level! Now spill the beans on Return3 points
-
Haha, as you can see we're barely holding it together. And now joining us, someone who knows the answers to all our speculation, but can't say anything.3 points

Oh no listen, you're good. If it were anyone else I might think of this as a taunt but we've known you in the community for years. I was there when you popped up in #monkey-island and nobody believed you until you recorded a voice clip. I seem to remember you just went by Dom at first, until people started calling you Dmnkly because we're such nerds Listen, you're 'one of us', you just happen to be one of us who landed an absolute dream role 25 years ago and you've got as much right to be here and excited about the game as the rest of us. I'd never want to exclude you from these discussions just because there's a bit of me that wants to see inside your head and find out what you know.2 points
-
Dom, welcome to the discussion! I’m so glad you returned for Guybrush! You’re such a great constant force in these games! Also, please don’t spill any beans you’re not supposed to. We’ll just have to wait like good little boys and girls. 😉2 points

Here's the shadow shape interpretation, colored. Yeah ... I really want to up this coloring game.2 points

I don't know if this outside the Mojo-verse, but I thought it might be worth looking at DD's other games while we're waiting for ReMI. For example, they just released an adventure game called CARD SHARK set in the 18th century that looks really interesting... https://www.devolverdigital.com/games/card-shark1 point

Devolver Digital publishes tons of gems. I remember during last year's E3 I ended up wishlisting their stuff mostly and ignored almost every other game. They seem to love indie vibes and original/obscure stuff, a breath of fresh air between all the AAA stuff. It's no surprise to me that we have to thank them in the first place for RMI. Love'em!1 point

If it's any consolation, I'd actually love to know as much about it as you do. I'm one of those people who plugs their ears and goes "LALALALALALALALALA" during trailers for movies I want to see. Seeing the development process is neat. But the downside is that I haven't been able to just experience a Monkey Island game as it's meant to be experienced since MI2.1 point

It depends on if that eastern time is in daylight savings I guess. It’s hard enough as it is, never mind countries now starting to no longer follow daylight savings. 😂1 point

How about a weird clone that sells the Caribbean? Oh don't worry. If that were true, we'd know. I really hope they will go the LeChuck's Revenge route and give us the opportunity to travel between several islands in the same act, including Mêlée Island™. Not sure they're close to telling us a release date yet. But yeah, we'll have news, and in the wildest and most franchise fitting fashion imaginable: As part of a Devolver Presentation on June 9th. If anyone here hasn't got a clue what Devolver is pulling off during these marketing stunts, I highly recommend hitting the ol' youtube for a primer. Here's the 2021 presentation: I'm so looking forward to this! The sheer chance that Dave and Ron could be in there somewhere. Whoooooaaahhh. 🤯1 point

I have a feeling Dom has constant mice with snipers hooked up to their ears watching him every minute, so I doubt he'll spill the beans, but I would love to know who's playing LeChuck, but even if he can't tell us, it'd be interesting to hear if Dom's heard the new voice @Glokiddreally convinced me that Gary Chalk, who played Willie and Carney Joe in Thimbleweed Park would be a great choice for the role. He's similar in age to Boen and his past voicework sounds like he could do a good impression of him while adding his own flavor .1 point

Dom! Welcome back! Can't wait to hear you as Guybrush again after all these years! ( Actually, while you're here, do you know who is voicing LeChuck in the game at this point? And have you heard their performance?... ) Next week is Summer Game Fest, so I feel it's pretty likely that we'll finally see some more ReMI content there. I'm gonna predict a new trailer and a release date. Feels like ages since the last official piece of news!1 point

Glad Stan is back although I kinda hoped they might get back Patrick Pinney. Dom! I'm just so glad your back as Guybrush 😁1 point
-
Damn! Yours is also great, but I always hope that person will one day go back to it.1 point
-
Haha, no I didn't, I literally lifted the "Cursed" name and the idea from there though 😛1 point
-
It's TOTALLY possible. I mean, I think it's highly unlikely, but if somebody were going to do something like that, it would absolutely be Ron. I am definitely considering the possibility that I will be just as surprised as you.1 point
-
Whatever Ron pays you we will pay double!! TELL US EVERYTHING!!! Just kidding great to have you here! 😄1 point

I'm so excited that I really can't find the right words to express it! Can't wait to hear your voice delivering new lines and making me laugh my ass off again! I'm still in disbelief that we're getting another game after all these years - thank you for being a part of it!!!1 point
-
@AndywinXp did you do the “Cursed!” albums for the first two Tales of MI episodes too? I still listen to them sometimes.1 point
-
The man, the myth, the legend is here! hi Dom! Can't wait to hear new lines from you in official capacity once again, it's honestly still surreal that it's happening, lord knows what it must be like for you. Haha everyone's got their line, that's fair. You are right about it being a bit of an overdone trope.1 point

Oh god no. I've seen this trope so many times Please don't make Stan a weird clone that sells everything in the Caribbean. (Sorry Ozzie)1 point

I actually liked Gavin the most out of all of Stan's voice actors. I also remember him as Kenny from Telltale's Walking Dead series. Patrick Pinney was great as Stan in CoMI, but I felt his voice was a little forced in the Special Editions, which is a common complaint of mine for the voice acting in those games (more so the first one), especially the narrator.1 point

And he was also in Vampyre Story, Bill Tiller's beautiful but ill fated point and click that I love.1 point

This looks fantastic!! Too bad it’s the only “high res” sprite we’ve got!1 point

Geez! I'm out of town for a few months/years and a new Monkey Island game gets announced?!?! And one actually helmed by Ron Gilbert?!?! Seriously, the guy had decades to do that and his choice of timeframe was now, when I'm off the grid?!?! I demand he cancels the game and reannounces it next week.1 point

Well, I do like puzzles, but some of the things you mentioned ring true to me as well. I generally try to complete the games without help, but every time I end up breaking down at least once and grab a walkthrough or look something up. Usually I end up feeling a bit guilty afterwards, especially if it was something that was really logical. But like I said, I don't think I've made it through even one game without a little hint. Now hint systems are interesting. My only experience with them has been TP, and to be honest I ended up using it a few times. Unfortunately once I give in once, I tend to have lower and lower patience and want to keep the story moving. Still felt a feeling of guilt afterwards, but maybe not as much as if I looked it up on the internet. Not that there should be a feeling of guilt. As others have mentioned, I think that as long as you're enjoying the game however you approach it is really just your own taste.1 point

My mood hasn't shifted, at all. I never thought it could be the biggest and best thing ever, but, in true Monkey Island style, I think that Return will be the second greatest Monkey Island game I've ever seen. 🐵🏝️1 point

I too can admit this about myself. When I replay Monkey Island, etc the puzzles are so baked into my memory I’m not really solving puzzles at all — I’m just enjoying the atmosphere, characters, locations, story, etc. On the rare occasion I play a truly new adventure games, or at least new to me, I find my patience for tough puzzles is very low. Even with ones I’ve played before but mostly forgotten, like Broken Sword, I find I’m quick to grab the walkthrough. I couldn’t say I enjoy the games any less as a result. They go past more quickly sure, but all I’m missing out on is getting increasingly frustrated as I have to keep making long trips between areas, often to find the answer was something really daft. 😅1 point

I still want to see the MI2 backgrounds AI upscaled, ideally trained using the Peter Chan art. 😅1 point
