Why do people like starwars so much

Hey i was just wondering why starwars has a christian like following like its a made up movie with a few games like i just dont get it???

I would say Christians have a Star Wars like following. And without Star Wars I would never have been here, and you all wouldn't know me, and you all would be very, very sad, especially Mr. Rhett, who is in (unreturned) love with me. But I guess that's the way it goes, eh?

Ah, I can feel the wisdom flowing through my venes.

I think so many people like Star Wars because of the huge adventurous story, the Jedis, Sith warriors and the very cool Force powers they have, that many of us will love to have, well I will love to have.

A galaxy where people, can live out fantasies, like in games such as KOTOR I, TSL, and Galaxies, also a galaxy where some can imagine that is real like the Milky Way; the star constellations at the end of several of the Star Wars movies and imagine Coruscant as Earth, because that is where the humans(obviously us) is believed to have evolve from in the Star Wars universe.

huh...starwars and christianity ?? I must've missed the all powerful goblin like midget, must read the bible again. I can vouch there is no such character in the Kuran :)

There's actually a book out called 'The Force of Star Wars' which went through some of the themes in the SF movies at the time (SW, Superman, and I think 2001 but I can't remember off the top of my head). It compared those themes with some of the Bible's themes (and I imagine some SW themes would have similar themes in just about any major religion), and it was quite an interesting little religious read.

There are certainly some interesting characters in the Bible, but no green pointy-eared midgets that I've noted in my various read-throughs. :)

In the first place, do you honestly need a thread to figure out what is great about Star Wars. Scondly

Star Wars "rocks" because is is a masterly told story. You can relate to Star Wars, and it plays on your imagination. Show me JUST ONE person in the Western culture who had never dreamt of flying among the stars in a starship. We have heros, we have villans, we have tragedies, romance, HIGH exitement, and a few good laughs for the sake of the universe. You're just drawn to it, I mean when I put on Star Wars, by the end everybody in teh house is tehre watching it, the themes are so primal and eloquent. WE have a heroic Rebel alliance vs. an evil Galactic empire, a noble Jedi order that cares only for the good of the universe vs. quarreling sith who want only power.

And also, Star Wars DOES have a place in religion, if you let it. There are Christian principles that encourage us to live better lives in this movie. George Lucas himslef is a Christian.

True.

People like Star Wars because it involves this thing called IMAGINATION *does the SpongeBob rainbow*

You'd be surprised on the discussions here about symbolic meanings and other things found in the moviies. I like it because it's fun.

F is friends who sticks close together

U is for you and me

N is anywhere, anyone, any time at all down here in the deep blue sea

Forgive me...SpongeBob attack from funny memories involving my supposedly cool 19 year old brother but the point is we like it. Everybody has their likes and dislikes and you are entitled to them. Some of us are crazy and others have engaged in dueling that seems interminable but we all come here because we like Star Wars.

Well personally, I like it mostly because of the very...imaginative...story. Also, the idea of a magical energy field that spreads through all life called "the Force" is pretty cool too. :) I don't really think there is that much of a Christian aspect to it, and if it did, that wouldn't be why I like it.

One thing I don't understand is why someone who doesn't like Star Wars would register on a Star Wars Forum. Also Nissan240SX, even if you don't want to use punctuation (which I don't understand why not) then maybe yo could be considerate of others and use it anyway. No matter what you may think, your posts are hard to read.

btw, welcome Nissan240SX! :waive1:

Islam is most certainly not about peace what are you talking about do you even know what the translation is....... if you don’t in means "Suppression under the heel" I wouldn't call that peaceful would you. It also encourages murder of “infidels” non-Islam. I mean look at Africa they are under the control of Islam and do look very peaceful they ALSO have an outstanding hatred towards Jews (who only fight when they are attacked or someone is kidnapped.) granted I’m NOT saying all Islamic people are EVIL war mongering people however look through history. They also pillaged Constantinople (and no I will not use the new name) and then rose the tax on the trade routes they also sacked Jerusalem granted so did the Christians but at least the monks were appalled by what the soldiers were doing. the fact is that most of what you hear on the news or whatever you have to do research on you can never take someone’s word for it you should even make sure I’m not lying (I’m not but its always good to start sooner then later) and you can be executed for being homosexual that’s peaceful .ok I’m done ranting and going on subject.

I believe people like star wars because people love Clashes, stories, and imagination which was all put into the story. Think about it, people from the beginning have dreamed of the stars and huge fights amongst the angles or gods whatever region you look at, add this with man kind’s thirst for knowledge and you got yourself a loved story.

QFE. There is no need for religion wars on these forums....there is already enough crap going on around the world regardless of which religion people adhere to. Let's keep the discussion civilized and respectful.

Nissan240SX, I like Star Wars because it captures my imagination. It’s a fictional, sci-fi/fantasy saga that has great stories that’s got everything. It’s got action, adventure, drama, twists, memorable characters, educational themes, attitudes and values, and sometimes, it’s got humour. Anyway, your question is an open ended one, because most people have different reasons for liking Star Wars.

But the biggest reason why I like Star Wars is because there is one thing in it that’s a real stand out. I mean, how can you top a glowing, laser sword that comes in different colours, known as the lightsaber?

It appeals to all ages and all types of people, for different reasons. You don’t have to be a nerd to like Star Wars or be a Star Wars fan. I know, because I’m no nerd or geek. And if many who follow it are, so what? Good on them. If it makes them happy, then so be it.

And that is why I joined this forum, because I like Star Wars, and I like to talk about it, but I never talk about it with any of my mates or any of my family members, because none of them like Star Wars, but in a forum like this, Star Wars fans are here, there and every bloody where.

Star Wars is a very succesful space opera with much special effects.

Think of why the Matrix has a high following of people loving it. Special effects and a good story.

Now, have Matrix comes out in the 1980s with the very good special effects that Star Wars have. Then this would be a Matrix Board and not a Star Wars board...

Hm...I wonder what would happen if I was playing "Droids of the Zero-One 2"...with Kreia the cyborg as a character....

This could be an overgeneralization, but hey, it does provide a rreason.

Holy bejebus...

The simple answer is that Star Wars has something that appeals to practically everyone, of virtually any age group. It's epic, it's incredibly detailed, and at the time it was first shown to the public, there was NOTHING truly like it anywhere.

It has often been argued that the first film (the original theatrical release of Episode IV) was "An epic western, set in a futuristic galaxy that actually takes place in our past, with lasers and space ships." --Or some variation of the same.

What that meant in the late 70s was that us kids (we Gen-X'ers) loved it because of the sci-fi and fantasy of it all, but our folks (who all grew up on westerns and the "hero saves the day and rides off into the sunset" genre could still enjoy it because it was in a way, familiar turf, just with a different setting.

Now, love or hate Lucas, he's done a pretty good job of continuing in that line of thinking, and kept the films bringing in new audiences for 30 years, while still being familiar enough to the "old timers" that we can't help but still be at least a little swept up by it all.

As for fanatics... personally, I think utter fanaticism about virtually anything is a bad thing, whether it be a movie, a religion or a box of cheerios. Any time you allow your love and afinity for something trump your ability for common sense, moderation, and rational thought, you're making a big mistake IMO.

So no, I'm no fanatic, but I am a huge fan, and will continue to be all my life more than likely. Some of the most magic moments I can remember would include when my mom and dad took me as a small child to see the first movie, followed as they happened by the next two... then many years later, I did the same for my own daughter and actually enjoyed seeing her reactions and watching her enjoy the magic since it reminded me so much of those early experiences of my own.

It's a timeless classic that's hard not to love on some level, unless you just really enjoy hating things because they're "popular" and playing devil's advocate simply for the sake of being argumentative.

My two bits anyways... But the real question for me is, as with many questions of such a nature, why does anyone care?

I mean really.. so long as I'm not trying to build a star destroyer and enslave your world, what does it matter to you or anyone else how much I like or dislike Star Wars? That's a bit like arguing over whether or not orange soda is yummy. Some will say yes, some will say no, and at the end of the day... who cares? ;)

You call that a simple answear O.O

Yes. Especially since the idea of starting a new paragraph is to separate thoughts or ideas into groups. Ergo, the 'simple' answer is merely the first paragraph, whereas the remainder is elaboration. It's all related, but only the first piece is actually needed to complete the 'simple answer' though. See?

Of course, I don't consider the concepts "requires reading more than 20 words" and "simple" antonymous in the first place, but I digress.

Wow...I go skiing for a week and a half and look what I miss.

Personally I enjoy Star Wars and the whole fan-based and -created extended universe that surrounds it primarily because it is something that has not been done before. A science fiction fantasy that is actually well thought out(usually), doesn't try to rationalize psuedo-science, and has lightsabers. In my view, it's a lot like a very post-modern Tolkein Lord of the Rings type thing; it's a complete universe that has no bearing or relation to our current reality. Same goes for the Dune saga. It's hard to really explain why people like Star Wars, just that people do.

I'm guessing from your posts and your handle that you're an automotive enthusiast. So am I. Think about why you like Nissan 240 SXs. You say they are the best drifting car ever. I disagree, preferring BMW M3s for both drifting and rallying, but to each their own. Now, you may be asking, as am I, where am I going with this increasingly random incoherence? The reason you like Nissans is very similar to why people like Star Wars. You can't really defend it to someone who does not understand but it makes perfect sense to the defendant. Why do you prefer Nissans over BMWs over Fords? Well, Fords.... nvm. It's like that for me at least with Star Wars. Why do I like reading, watching, playing in that universe rather than that of Lord of the Rings? I just do, for a variety of reasons that I've tried to explain, poorly I'll admit, that make perfect sense to me. A fresh universe, completely detached from our existence here on Earth in any time frame, that is actually interesting to immerse oneself in.

I hope my ramblings make more sense to you than they do to me.
