CNN and Fox

For a long time, CNN has been my favorite, mostly because of Lou Dobbs's part of the show.

 

But now Fox news is, well... growing on me. O'reilly, Hannity, Colmes, they actually seem a lot smarter than I thought. Also, recently watching both shows carefully to watch for subliminal messages, I see subliminal messages on both, but moreso on CNN.

 

It's just the way they phrase the titles like: "Republicans Divided", "Trouble for Mccain?", "The Palin Factor", etc, etc.

 

I see these messages all over the place on CNN popping in and out and changing all the time.

 

You see, on both channels I see them doing their polls and whatnot, which don't make much of a difference realistically. The debates on CNN actually seem less fact-based than some of the ones I've seen on Fox.

 

Hannity actually backs up his arguments very well, and O'reilly seems to me like a pretty fair guy with good intentions. (Lou Dobbs is still my favorite though. )

 

Now, Fox isn't that great though. Most of the late night and early morning stuff they talk about is pretty frivolous, but so does CNN during lunch hours and the early afternoon.

 

Neither one is perfect. CNN has a Liberal bias obviously present, and Fox obviously has a Conservative bias present. But honestly, I'm hearing more facts in the Fox debates right now than the CNN debates.

 

Odd, isn't it? I've probably missed a lot of the 'Fox moments' in the past where some guest comes on and totally tears apart an argument of somebody, but I'm noticing more honesty on Fox than on CNN, except for those times when Fox abruptly cuts people off and goes to a commercial sometimes...

 

I'm the Independent guy of Liberal leaning, and I'm seeing Fox as more honest than CNN. Something seems odd here...

 

So, who's up for a good old fashioned CNN vs Fox debate?

Neither, I find Fox News offensive and obviously biased and CNN as biased and incredibly condescending. I'll stick with my News Hour With Jim Lehrer for now.

I find CNN to be less biased, but to be honest, I've trained myself to listen to what's happening, and tune out what people think about it. I find that harder to do on Fox broadcasts so my feeling is that more of their programming is opinion and not information.

I watch Fox News more than CNN. However, I am not watching Fox News for its news value, but for its entertainment value. I laugh, I cry, I throw stuff at the Television, Fox News is more entertaining than watching most of Fox’s regular programming (the exception is House).

 

For some reason, I’m thinking of watching CNN more often.

Interesting how subliminal messages are present on all of the major news networks I can see, as I flip through the channels on my TV...

 

I wonder, do these subliminal messages these news networks use have that great of an effect on what people think?

While at work, I watch CNN.

While at home I watch FoxNews.

I like to watch both and the facts are somewhere in between them. Fox is more entertaining. CNN spends too much time on gloom and doom. Fox actually tries to show the good(more so than CNN). Of course they are both heavily biassed. I just seem to like Fox's bias better Of course if I watch CNN Headline News, I want to bash my head in after hearing the same 4 stories repeated every 15 minutes....

I'm a CNN regular, but lately they've become so far left it's sickening. Lately, they're no better than Fox other than the fact they don't (thankfully) have Bill O'Reilly

 

If I skip the political section, I can hold back the urge to vomit.

I'm not American but I am familiar with all these sources, especially "Yoda" (Fox news can be interesting but isn't really taken seriously in the international community other than to see some of the POVs that are vehicled in the US btw). Here's my take on all that:

 

I didn't vote but I find that watching and looking at - don't neglect newspapers! - news from different sources is the best (even those than you consider as "less reputable", they can at least inform you about other views and how some people think).

 

Check out sources from your country primarily but also from other countries as well (btw, papers around the world contain articles about US elections right now) : it can be very informative or at least bring another perspective on various issues. It's certainly easier if you speak more than one language but multiple good sources can be easily found in English - Middle East, Europe,etc...btw, you have Northern neighbor which has English as one of it's official languages (Canada) too.

 

As a native French speaker I like Courrier International which is a weekly paper that provides translations of various selected articles from over 900 newspaper sources from around the world. It's website also provides links to the websites of various newspapers around the world (often in the local language or English): http://www.courrierinternational.com/planetepresse/planeteP_accueil.asp -the search boxes in the search engine are "name" (nom), "region" or "country" (pays) - Edit: found something similar in English: http://library.uncg.edu/news/ or http://www.onlinenewspapers.com/.

Of the news organizations on the air I can pretty much go down a list as to who are the most dishonest and who are the most honest.

 

In fairness sake, CNN and Fox News are the best two news sources when it comes to honesty, but Fox News has more than a slight edge in that department.

I went with Yoda. Both Fox and CNN are pretty biased as far as news goes (I realize that all sources are biased, but Fox and CNN in particular, it seems to me). I also believe the fact that Yoda is now winning in the polls proves his Win.

Essentially yes, I'm saying I think they allow CNN in Cuba because the Cuban Government doesn't consider CNN to be a threat, remember Cuba is a communist dictatorship, it is not a Democracy.

Your analysis is faulty, because Cuba is a dictatorship, one of the scariest things for a dictatorship is a media willing to criticize them. If they allow CNN into their country, it therefore hurts their credibility badly.

I'm saying that they are better than CNN and networks like MSNBC which is a joke (will say CNN is better than MSNBC though). They have some room for improvement, but they have thus far been the most honest network of 2008, and their ratings compared to the other networks seems to show that Fox News is more trusted than the other networks.
