tk, I’m expremely disappointed in you. Throwing shoes at the President of the United States is not a laughing matter. The President deserves the world’s utmost respect and even his image should be treated with respect and dignity. :carms:
I'm sure that Canada would grant asylum to "shoe-throwing terrorists" such as tk ...

Did I get though that with a straight face?

...and you :xp:

First off it can be considered assault even if it doesn't connect.

Second, I thought this was the non-serious threads section.

Third, it just shows that Republicans are pretty good at avoiding silly objects hurled at them(Pie and Anne Coulter at point blank range).

at any rate, he's being tried in an Iraqi court by the Iraqi government, which, in a twist of irony, means he will get a lot less of a punishment than he would have gotten under Saddam for the same stunt.

Actually, under the State of California's legal code, it's assault if the attempt is made.

Yes, California does not provide the legal code for the Rest of the US and, by extension, Iraq. (Saying that we had a hand in forming it, not that it's a vassal state.) But, it is does provide a good starting point.

Then why are you wasting our time and yours by saying something that's completely irrelevant to what occurred? :)

_EW_

Because, like I said, it does provide a good reference point, at least for the US and, by semi-extension, Iraq.

Only reason I say Iraq is connected is because the US helped rebuild their nation and, thus, their Legal code, to an extent.

~~~
As to what Jae and Q have suggested... well, I almost think that there would be a holy war declared against Iraq, the way some people seem to revere Obama.... Oh well...
I wonder how the HiveMind would react to someone's chucking a shoe or two at Obama...
Same way I responded to Bush, I mean come out, someone electing to throw a shoe, is a political act, not a I want to physically hurt you act; hence me thinking it comes under freedom of speech. Besides what was done to the guy, was far worse than what he did.
Yeah, I took it as a mostly symbolic gesture, myself. Nothing gets the point across like hurled footwear. :p
I also heard that the guy was brutally beaten and/or tortured for what he did. He certainly did not deserve that. It's debatable whether or not he even deserved arrest. So much for progress. Now, why are we over there? :giveup:
Personally, I gave up on Iraq progressing when they executed Saddam.
