Who cares if it was a pagan holiday 9 zillion years ago. It's called Valentine's day in the 21st century. :xp:

I'm going to spend time with my honey. I don't care about gifts, flowers, chocolates, or cards, though he'll probably give me all of the above because that's his way of expressing love (especially if he writes poetry in the card). I just want to spend time with him alone. We love each other and do a lot of things together, but it's always nice to remember a special day of love in the middle of the busy-ness of life.

Well, even being married I don't really care about Valentines Day. Sometimes my husband does something special, other times he doesn't. Either way, I don't need a 'special day' to know how much he loves me, and vice versa, so meh.

I hate it.

It serves as a constant reminder that some people have all the luck while others are forced to be alone

Chevron you're still young so don't be depressed just yet.

Yeah, you're essentially Correct. The Romans had the festival of Lupercalia from the 13th to the 15th of February. Essentially, it was a festival to promote fertility, dedicated to Lupa, the surrogate wolf mother of Romulus and Remus.

Not sure how that's relevant to whether or not you like Valentine's Day though, which was what I meant earlier.

Ahahahaha that is a winning comment.
Was that supposed to be sarcastic? The Tubes can't convey body language and speech patterns too well. :(

I suppose not, but Valentine's Day is Valentine's Day.

However, you can that it's at least a corporate ritual.

Commercialized? Yes--but if you're poor all you have is your thoughtfulness and the 'nice idea'. If nothing else, it is as good an excuse to be with that special someone as any. Spend a little time together.

Otherwise if you are into your vaunted lone-ranger-dom...single, apathy or hate it is perfectly allright.

Yeah, you're essentially Correct. <snip>

Ok. Thanks for clarification.

Oh, and there's St. Valentine and his eventual martyrdom, but hey, that's a bore

Well, if that's your perspective...

pagan rituals are much more interesting. And titillating. Just remember that most holidays considered sacred in christian dogma are all derived from polytheistic pagan cult-like rituals. santsmil

More or less.

However 'pagan' is such a generalized term for that which is not christian.

Glad you at least had some stance or where-with-all to answer specifically.

Aww.

Not sure, maybe I'll play in the snow with the prospective lady. Or we go to a movie her and I. --which reminds me I better get my @$$ down the hill to get some of those special chocolates soon and a few trinkets.

Tubes? --what 'bout LCD? :xp:

Just that pagan is such a generalized term 's all.

Well, I suppose if you haven't got a reason to celebrate it, then let it pass you by. --Not 3 months ago I was very pessimistic-more than I'd ever been. I guess I'm on the roller coaster now and the high times are a-comin' for me.

Seriously people, you can ignore the whole corporate aspect by sticking to the main theme/idea and being creative without huge expenses. Try it sometime. What's a matter? Afraid you'll liiiiiiiiiike it?!--If nothing else you get some pretty nice handfulls of.....stuff. :D:D:D
