The Seeker
Not exactly classified as a movie, but I haven't found anything since, well, the first SW movies that made me like SW more. What I am rambling about is Knights of the Old Republic. I had never played an RPG of any sort before, but when everyone said that it is the best thing for earth to produce since oxygen, then I decided to buy it. Not only was I surprised at how entertaining and addictive it was, but how riveting and engrossing it was as well. For the first time in any video game, SW or otherwise, I actually cared about the characters, as if I was watching a really good movie or reading a great book. Typically, in the light side/dark side choice games, I choose my path from the start just to see how it plays out. With KotOR, I found myself wanting to do the right thing for the good of my group. Just the characters and feel of the game was great, but the plot was like a breath of fresh air for SW. There was no superlaser or superweapon or force syphon hose or whatever for the bad guys to be invincible, it was a factory. Then, they really really pull a shocker for you which is not only do you not know who you are, but you find that you are the main bad guy that was supposedly dead the whole time. Then, when you are fighting Malak for the first time, and Bastila sacrifices herself to get you off the ship, well, I had never felt the loss of a video game character more deeply. I actually started trying doors to try and get back and help her. Anyway, I wasn't just surprised by how great of a game it truly was. What surprised me is that it is not only the best SW game to hit the shelves, but the best SW movie as well. Seriously, George Lucas should play the game and take notes, because KotOR made me feel the awe and wonder and excitement that SW used to make me feel, in those merry old days before SW was bogged down excruciatingly painful scripts, more stilted acting than the OT (which is tough), and a far too kid friendly feel. No folks, for a true SW experience that has an incredible story and presentation, you need look no farther than Knights of the Old Republic. Tyrion
You forgot the part where it gives out bugs near the end that completely destoys your ability to end the game. Yeah, I've had not one show stopping bug in Kotor(would freeze up when loading a particular level), but two. I only give it a six outta ten unfortunately, this bug happend just too often and thusly soured my opinion(different characters on different Windows installations, makes no sense). Boba Rhett
Yes, it provided me with some of my most memorable gaming experiances. Not knowing the big twist made it so great. I've played through it six times now and have only had one freeze ever. A six out of ten? Man, that's harsh. Really harsh. Unless there was a game error that caused the Xbox to somehow propel itself towards my fully exposed genitalia, I don't see how any bug, no matter what, could knock off that many points. Wow, that would make the game less enjoyable for anyone. Glad it never happened to me. Never ever. 10/10 from me. But I was patient and waited for the pc version. Anyways, I give it a 9.9/10, it loses that .1 because of the mentioned bugs. ONE time, on like my 7th time through it froze up everytime I tried to start the final trial on korriban. Made me very sad indeed. Other times, I got some odd bugs, but they were fixed by reloading the game. If only KOTOR 2 came out sooner than February

BLG
I've never had any trouble with KOTOR. It has never freezed or anything. I agree that KOTOR is the greatest SW game ever! And I was shocked aswell when I found out, well you know, that thing. Amazing game!
Astrotoy7
I had no problems running KOTOR, I have an nvidia GForceFX GO 5600(a mobile/laptop vid card). Its 64mb but ran great. Yes KOTOR is a wonderful SW experience, made all the more intriguing because it isnt in OT or PT era..... BioWare did a great job of keeping the SW feel despite the old republic setting. Great music too... Apart from the poor ppl who had trouble running the game, pc or XB, Ive never heard anyone complain about this game ! I hope the sequel will be as enjoyable, but probably wont blow us away as much as the original.... mtfbwya

Mex
It has never ever crashed for me, and I've had it since both release dates. Is it me? Or am I lucky?
The_One
I have the PC version. The first time I played it through it crashed once (this is unpatched btw). On my second playthrough, after having upgraded to 1.3 it crashed about 3 times - ironic, eh? Either way, it's easily the best Star Wars game ever made, and damn near the best game ever made. No self respecting Star Wars fan should be without a copy - buy it, beg for it, steal it; just do whatever you need to do to play this wonderful game! Roll on number 2! Sivy
kotOR is da bomb! it gave my computer meaning a had a few crashes pre-1.03, but none after. i just hope kotOR II is as good
Alegis
*poors petrol over his own post* remembers of what i once read "they should get rid of lucas and have the storymakes from kotor make ep3" -> BS the reason why kotor was awesome to play was cause it was an awesome rpg, with a good rpg story. As movie its useless. "find the 6 objects" is a typical gameplot which you wont find easily in good movies. kotor is almost impossible to put on screen with almost the same experience you had now. Sabretooth
THAT'S IT!! Now I AM NOT gonna buy KOTOR or my name is not Malcolm! (And it isn't) Will it work on me 32VRAM nVidia TNT2 Model 64? (Latest Drivers)
BongoBob
Yes, but did any of you get the damn galaxy droid glitch? >_> <_< That sucked ass. But yeah, it dropped my jaw about 4 times. And the "spoiler" was the best. I hadn't been that shocked in a movie since ESB and he said I am your father(I was about 5 and was shocked like hell). Plus it's got Jolee Bindo Fav character of the game.
leXX
The bugs that KotOR had have nothing to do with your PC, so long as the system requirements were met, there shouldn't have been a problem. Unfortunately for me, there was. It conflicted with my PC, although my system specs far exceeded the recomendations. The first patch didn't help, nor the second, but after a graphics card driver download, and the new v1.03 patch, I'm happy to say the game runs brilliantly now. I have a bit of a rollercoaster history with KotOR. I bought the Xbox version first, played about 4 planets, got the PC version, and nearly finished it, but the bugs kept me from completing it, so I completed my Xbox version first. I'm now playing the dark side on the PC version. KotOR is a simply brilliant game, and easily the best Star Wars game to date, if not the best RPG ever made imo. The Seeker
You know, I had some probs with the bugs too, but fortunately, I saved the beginning of most every level, so the glitch usually didn't carry into the nearest other save. And I know that KotOR itself wouldn't make a good movie (too many side quest for that) put like I said, GL should play the game and take notes on the parts that make you experience SW again as if it's you are six years old again and watching the OT for the first time. Despite the horrid acting, there's just something about the OT that is awe inspiring to an open mind for the first time, and KotOR gave me that feeling in a way that the PT just fails miserably. IG-64
I bought this game, I never got past the first city. Partly because i'm not good at finishing games once I get stuck, also because I was interrupted and has to go on vacation, also because my HD shut down, and I had to get a new one, partly because i've been busy with JA alot, partly because I suck at video games, and partly because my friend told me about the big twist before hand. So, yeah... Sux for me. I missed out. So what... *cries*
Prime
Originally posted by Tyrion You forgot the part where it gives out bugs near the end that completely destoys your ability to end the game. That is unfortunate. Personally, I have never had the game crash. Actually, it is one of the most stable games I have ever played. Originally posted by ET Warrior If only KOTOR 2 came out sooner than February True. But the fact a sequel will be available on the PC a little more than a year after the first one is pretty nice. I would have expected it to take several more years. So I am thankful it is this soon. Originally posted by Astrotoy7 Yes KOTOR is a wonderful SW experience, made all the more intriguing because it isnt in OT or PT era..... BioWare did a great job of keeping the SW feel despite the old republic setting. Great music too.. Indeed. It strikes me as funny that so many people say the game provides such a great SW experience even though it is in an era completely different from the original. And I feel the same way. Bioware should really be commended for this. The nice thing about the Old Republic Era is that there is enough room for completely open-ended, galaxy-affecting stories without altering existing stories. It also provides nice elements from both trilogies. It has the big galaxy-spanning war, powerful enemy a la the Empire, credible Sith Lord, evil minions, bounty hunters, and run down/lived in environments of the OT. It also has the Jedi and the Republic from PT. So there is something for all fans in this game. Personally, I love being able to be a Jedi for a few hours and spend some time in an OT-like galaxy. Apart from the great story and well implemented SW elements, the game looks fantastic. I have a top of the line video card with all the game settings cranked, and there have been several times when I have just stood and looked around. I am on Kashyyyk right now, and looking out into the upper forest is a wonderful thing... Originally posted by Astrotoy7 Ive never heard anyone complain about this game ! I hope the sequel will be as enjoyable, but probably wont blow us away as much as the original.... I've found the same thing. It is the first universally accepted piece of Star Wars to come along in a long time. Maybe the Clone Wars Cartoon as well, but KOTOR seems to be loved by almost everyone. KOTOR 2 might not blow us away, but if they can have a great story as well, I can't see it being anything but a success. We'll have to wait and see. Originally posted by Siv kotOR is da bomb! Samuel Dravis
KotOR is incredible. One of the best parts of KotOR is that the characters are actually believable - the sith don't just have the villianous laugh. They actually are cruel and spiteful, and occasionally misguided but essentially good - like Yuthera. The lightsiders are generally good, but all have to constantly struggle with the darkside, and they sometimes lose. The atmosphere that the music and scenes create is straight from the OT - and many times it is better. I never had any bugs with the game. The only downside to it is that there's not much replay value after the 10 or so times I've gone through it. However, that's being fixed with all the mods that are coming out for it in the Holowan forum. So really, there are no downsides. To sum up: One of the best, most engrossing entertainment experiences I have ever played, seen or read. Recommended with no reservations. 100/10.
