Det. Bart Lasiter
This phrase was uttered when a man called C-SPAN to share his opinion on the House Energy & Commerce Oversight Committee's hearing on child pornography on the internet. WAV of dumbassery.

Det. Bart Lasiter
And how does he suggest the U.S. gets everyone else to shut it off? They cut him off. I was watching the whole thing on C-SPAN this afternoon (mainly just so I could laugh at the 10 old men and women talking about the innarwebz and making asses of themselves in doing so), they had to cut several angry, stupid people off. Char Ell
Seems to fit the stereotypical redneck style of thinking, heh-heh-heh. After all the guy was from Arkansas. Jae Onasi
Some people are completely nuts. Stopping a few perverts from looking at child porn is definitely worth the tradeoff of the world's economy taking a blow... Actually, there are a whole _lot_ of perverts looking at child porn (and don't even get me started on how even parents are putting up racy pictures of their own kids), but obviously shutting the internet down is not the answer. The problem here isn't the internet, it's improper/illegal use of the internet. So here's the question then: How do you stop illegal activity like child porn on the 'net? What do you target? The people filming the kids? The people molesting the kids? The people posting it or hosting it? Do you create a massive smart filter? Do you create an international set of laws so it can be targeted worldwide instead of just in the US (useless for foreign sites, of course)? What new laws would actually be useful? What kinds of things can be done at 'Real People' level? Any other thoughts/ideas? How do you create an organized response to an incredibly organized but very illegal business? Q
(and don't even get me started on how even parents are putting up racy pictures of their own kids) Please tell me there are no documented cases of that happening... PLEASE! What do you target? The people filming the kids? The people molesting the kids? The people posting it or hosting it? How about all the about all the above? I have some rather extreme ideas on what should be done with these people when they're caught (rehabilitation just doesn't cut it, IMO). Yes, the internet should be (shudder) policed, but how? And where would it end once it has begun? Will law-abiding citizens have to surrender their privacy when they log on? Anyone who thinks that the internet can just be "turned off" lives farther away from reality than even I do. Don't be too harsh on them, though. They've probably never even USED the internet! Jae Onasi
Please tell me there are no documented cases of that happening... PLEASE! How about all the about all the above? I have some rather extreme ideas on what should be done with these people when they're caught (rehabilitation just doesn't cut it, IMO). Unfortunately, I saw an article on a news channel (I believe Fox) about it. While I could be wrong, I think one of the parents justified it as 'earning money for college' for their little dear. By exploiting them instead of doing something legit. I was appalled. I hope someone called child protective services and got those kids away from those so-called parents. For heaven's sake, let the kid get a job at a fast-food joint or something where they're going to learn real-life work skills, instead of selling racy pictures of them online. My thoughts on what should be done with child molesters are very un-Christianlike. Most torture methods would be too kind. However, I have to be a theoretically responsible adult and help feed my family, so I just resort to the very legal method of reporting the abuse to the appropriate authorities. Actually, I'm _required_ to report it since I'm in the med field and it's one of the regulations in state law as part of licensure for anyone who works with children in any capacity. @RJM--29-foreverness is a wonderful state of mind and entirely free. State-sponsored hacking--now there's an interesting thought, legal ramifications notwithstanding....
Emperor Devon
While I could be wrong, I think one of the parents justified it as 'earning money for college' for their little dear. With an attitude like that, I wonder why they're even bothering to send their children to college. Sure, it's okay to make them do dirtier things than most adults will ever do in their lives at such an innocent age, but it's still important that they get a good education and have bright futures! Such inconsistencies. That could create far more complications than it could solve, anyhow. My thoughts on what should be done with child molesters are very un-Christianlike. Most torture methods would be too kind. Wow, sacking their thousand-year old cities and using their monuments as stables is too kind? I would have to agree, though. A wise man named Hammurabi devised a legal system that I think would work well in this situation, or any situation for that matter. Our country's laws are far too gentle on crimes. I actually know the true cost of it. As for the "wonderful state of mind", commenting on that is your area of expertise and I leave it to you;) They don't have to be state sponsored, just good at what they do;) And as far as legal ramifications go, the main counter-attack the hackers would have to protect themselves from would probably be the vatican (lots of angry priests with fried compy's)
