The worst school shooting ever in the U.S.

that really really really sucks. it'll probably have an impact on the right to bear arms amendment......:( damn people

I think that if that is changed, it'll come down to specific restrictions particular to schools and other public places. I doubt there would be a fundamental change to the second amendment though.

As a former Hokie, holy crap. It's pretty disturbing that I would still be in Blacksburg if I hadn't changed my major.

According to NYTimes, there was a 911 about a shooting in a dorm (Ambler Johnson Hall) and then hours later, the gunman ends up dead in Norris Hall. Those two buildings are t completely opposite ends of the campus, and it's a good walk to get between the two.

I can't believe one guy with a gun caused such a mass panic.

The VT website is getting hit hard.

And my local newspaper just called not 10 seconds after I clicked submit. The guy was calling people in my area who went to VT.

I got really scared when I first found out about it, because I have a cousin who goes to some tech college in Virginia, luckilly he doesn't go to Virgina Tech, but still HOLY SH*T.

I was watching CNN with my mom and a student there was telling about a girl who was in one of the classrooms, and that she had to play dead to survive, she was one of the 4 to get out of the classroom. they showed the cell phone video and everything. Now I'm really scared of going to college.

I can sympathize with that fear, especially since the video is fresh in your mind. It was a sad and senseless tragedy, but don't be afraid of going to college. Most people think of college as some of the best times in their lives. It really is something to look forward to, I promise. :)

You realize that guns were already banned on that university campus.

Perhaps if the school hadn't stripped those adults of their state approved right to conceal carry the carnage could have been stopped earlier.

And if the way to reduce shootings of this sort really was more guns, the US would already be the safest place on the planet. You want the Right to Bear Arms? This is the price you pay for it.

My condolences to the families.

This is so horrible. I can't even comprehend it right now.

I have heard that he was carrying two automatic weapons. Am I correct in this knowledge?

If so, this is just a stronger argument for much stricter policies against automatic weapons.

EDIT: This is in reference to the question on the second amendment.

To my knowledge he had two 9 mm semi-automatic weapons.

The question is...

WHY CAN PEOPLE BUY THOSE GUNS?!

You don't need them to hunt, you definitely don't need a gun like that for "protection"... they're meant to kill. Meant to kill very easily... as we all can now see.

Why should ANYONE, adult or not, be able to buy guns like those?

*starts countdown til Jack Thompson/Hilary Clinton blames this on games*

Sad. Just sad.

My condolences to the families. Anyone know if any Swampies go to Virginia Tech?

Btw, I didn't learn about this until about 2 or 3 hours ago, in my government class.

Damn...

I agree with you though jebbers, it's a very sad tragedy, but I don't think it's going to go down in history books. Those who lost their lives should be mourned for, but frankly speaking the most we can hope for is that casualties in similar future incidents will be minimal

IMHO it's the way society's formed that create social misfits. Unless people become saints and samaritans overnight, what's to stop faculty shootings from recurring? Nonetheless, let's hope that officials and state leaders take heed of these lessons, and realise that here, lightning may strike twice, thrice, 'quadrupice' and so on, and make pay greater attention to lessen the frequencies and aftermaths of such disasters

Well, it's not like any of the deceased's family will be reading this, but nonetheless, my deepest condolences to them...

At least they tell you this stuff in school. A few weeks ago we went on lockdown for about a half hour after school and they didn't tell us a thing. And they knew somthing, cause the radio stations were broadcasting news on the busride home.
