Jae Onasi
Hope your Easter was wonderful. We wanted to go to Good Friday services, but we got 15 inches of snow so we didn't go anywhere. Last night, we colored and decorated Easter eggs (which turned into deviled eggs for the big family dinner today ). We had fun picking and creating different colors and designs. I played 'Easter Bunny' last night and filled the kids' Easter baskets and hid candy-filled Easter eggs around the living room for them to find. It was a lot of fun to hear their excited voices this morning as they found each one. Our church had services in the morning. This afternoon we went to my dad's for the big family dinner. We ate more food than we should have because it was all too good to pass up. We sat around and talked and shared family news after that. How do you and your family share Easter? If you celebrate another holiday instead, share what it is and your customs, too.

Alkonium
Well, I'm an atheist, but I still celebrate Zombie Jesus Day (or as normal people call it, Easter) for the sake of the chocolate, if nothing else.

Jae Onasi
Well, family communication is important.... Regardless of whether it was co-opted from a former pagan holiday or not, we still enjoy the celebration of Christ's resurrection.
Inyri
Well, I'm an atheist, but I still celebrate Zombie Jesus Day (or as normal people call it, Easter) for the sake of the chocolate, if nothing else.Hypocrite. Reminds me of the girl at my church who celebrates Hanukkah. We didn't do much to celebrate this year. I went to church (where the little kids got their Easter hyacinths -- I miss getting those) and then we went home. My mom gave us our candy and a gift, even though we're arguably too old for it now, but my gift rocked.
Darth InSidious
My dad and I usually exchange emails, chuckling over the fact that "easter" was originally a pagan holiday Now on the first day of Unleavened Bread, the disciples came to Jesus to say, "Where do you want us to make the preparations for you to eat the Passover?" "...It will be Passover in two days' time." It was two days before the Passover and the feast of Unleavened Bread On the first day of Unleavened Bread, when the Passover lamb was sacrificed, his disciples said to him, "Where do you want us to go and make preparations for you to eat the Passover?" The feast of Unleavened Bread, called the Passover, was now drawing near The day of Unleavened Bread came round, on which the Passover lamb was to be sacrificed The Jewish Passover was drawing near Six days before the Passover, Jesus went to Bethany Before the festival of Passover (New Jerusalem translation of the opening of the Passion narrative - the text which covers the death and resurrection of Jesus - in the Gospels.) ...Pagan holiday, you say? You do realise that it is only called "Easter" in English? Happy Easter everyone, nonetheless.
Achilles
Regardless of whether it was co-opted from a former pagan holiday or not, we still enjoy the celebration of Christ's resurrection. Indeed, just as I'm sure the neopagans still enjoy the celebration of the resurrection of their deities (where applicable). I find it a lovely coincidence that so many mythologies all thought to have their holidays of rebirth/renewal/resurrection at the spring equinox. It only makes sense the Jesus would decide to experience his rebirth at the same time as everyone else. ...Pagan holiday, you say? Yep. This should get you started (lots of good info). Hope that helps.
Jae Onasi
OK, I don't want this to turn into another religion debate thread. General note to everyone--please don't make fun of others' beliefs here. The Senate has the monopoly on that already. I just would like to know how people celebrate this holiday, or similar holidays in their cultures, and wish everyone a happy Easter.

Rev7
Regardless of whether it was co-opted from a former pagan holiday or not, we still enjoy the celebration of Christ's resurrection. That is the only way that I celebrate this holiday. Because it is a day to celebrate Christ's resurrection. I honestly just stayed home today and rested, and prepared for the upcoming week. *Don*
Happy Easter everybody! Back in India, the Hindus are celebrating Holi (a holiday that marks the victory of good over evil). It just goes to show that all religions are interconnected somehow.. Ahem, but as Jae Onasi said, lets not focus on religion specifics. Enjoy ur cholcolate! mimartin
I also enjoyed eating chocolate and watching hoops. Didn’t eat any chocolate, but I did watch some hoops, including the Longhorns nearly letting one slip away. Took three of my cousins to see “Horton Hears a Who!”. Watched the Longhorns and then we had a large family dinner. Hope everyone had a wonderful Easter.

Aash Li
Happy Easter! And... Id just like to point out that its a well known fact that the early Catholic church did co-opt pagan holidays. Easter came from the Saxon word Eostara, which was a spring equinox celebration. Somewhere along the lines rabbits (fecundity), and eggs (new life) got added into the mix. I just get a kick out of people that think they have to add in "Im an atheist" or "Im a pagan", or "Im an agnostic" before they say Happy Easter, like expressing the well wishing without the precursor somehow makes them Christian... >.> Anyway, Ill let it drop now. Happy Easter!
Ferc Kast
I thought Easter was next week. That definately explains why some of my family were over this afternoon for a Easter feast. Other than that...it was a typical Sunday. So, until I post again, follow God & stuff... (I stole that saying from one of my older sisters.)
