Satellite? ADSL? Ethernet? Or something even faster?

Post your speed and discuss the internet situation of the world. How is internet in your country?

Check your speed using speedtest.net. you can compare you speed and stats with local local isps, view global stats, and a lot of other things. choose the server with the lowest ping for your test. it will provide a more accurate result.

Go to the about page for more info.

[Edit]

Everyone: What is the highest actual speed you've ever seen your connection do in a download? And to those with 20m+, how long does it take to load a youtube video? instant?

here in nz, there is a monopoly in telecommunications by a company called telecom (wonderfully original name). first owned by the government, it was sold some time back. they own practically the entire network in the country, and all other isp's have to go through them. almost all isps. my current isp, telstraclear, invested fibre optic lines between the three major centers in nz, and they're telecom's biggest competitor.

the government is forcing telecom to unbundle the local loop.

overall, broadband in nz really stinks compared to other OECD countries. some time back telecom said nz was number <something> in terms of broadband in the OECD countries which gave the impression thats its all good... which was garbage because we're #22 out of 30 or something.

speeds are rather pathetic here generally, with high prices and low usage caps. there are some exceptions of course. like telstraclear. thanks to their fibre optics, they can easily raise the speeds for the major centers to 100m when they need to. (when the market reaches those speeds)
